The odd jobs
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 7 พ.ย. 2018
we are "the odd jobs" because we love doing odd jobs on cars, we have cars that range from a world war 2 jeep to a modern mustang and others in-between, our aim is to do work on these cars and show everyone how we do it, warts and all, we are not professional mechanics but we are both engineers that have a love for all cars, old and new, so if its broke we will have a go at fixing it, from headlight restoration to drop links, brakes, exhausts and fitting mods we would love for you all to join us on this ride.
Garage update 1 YEAR ON (does it work ??)
Welcome back to the garage build on a budget, its been a year since its been finished and I thought I would give an update on the good and the bad of what I've done, hopefully I've answered some questions, feel free to ask more.

What a transformation, shippers! Looks incredible and has inspired me. Quick quezzie, what's the dimensions of your garage for length and width? I wanna see if this is even possible for me. Mines 2.4m x 4.8m and for motorcycles instead of jetski's
My garage was 2.8m by about 4.8m , I worked all the measurements on plywood and flooring at 15m3 to give me extra for any mistakes, plus my garage wasn’t straight, slightly wonky ( typical new build)
@theoddjobs3749 definitely possible for me to have this layout then. Like you I'm trying to get a roller door. Wanted a Garolla one but they don't have an installer in Pompey unfortunately. Thank you for the inspiration! Now to find time to make it happen. Oh, and rip out the half conversion that the garage has (bought the house like that)
Looks bang on, only thing I’d do would be a nice stainless top to cover the 3 roll cabs
I did think of that but kept it all to match shelves and Teaboat
Great renovations Mate. Have you got a link to the garage roller door company that you used?
Sure thing www.rollerdooruk.online/
Hi mate thanks for the vid! Doing this same job myself at the moment. One thing from me is you used the fuel pump sprocket tool the wrong way. You should’ve put the tool in hand tight and then released the bolt, having the bolt pull the sprocket out
Thankyou for this little timing chain series on the n47 👍
Looks great mate, thanks for sharing, kitting out my garage now, its just for my Lancia but the tips are well appreciated! Not enough normal garage builds on yt.
Appreciate that buddy
Nice to see real cars instead of ev and modern crap😊
Bravo 👏
Thank you
Automatic. Shame!
@@Brickinasock 👍🏻
Your garage looks exactly like mine in terms of dimensions. I'm trying to configure it to fit a small car. If i had a driveway I'd definitely use your layout though.
@@TenshiR it was all about the space for me, I would of struggled with a car, that’s the problem with most uk garages though :(

@@ArronClark-k2m normal lighting circuit, wired it through a chock block from the original lighting
Not sure if you have a recent video of this car updates on maintenance and what went wrong? I’m posting my comment a year later I have a 2003 E320 petrol V6 wagon as an Australian we don’t call them estates had for four years and nearly 300,000km’s and you get a lot of car for the money wagon Mercedes e class are quite uncommon here sedans are everywhere, Car has cost more then purchase price in maintenance & repairs all worn out items including air bags for rear suspension and pipes plus suspension compressor & power steering hose coolant leaks all sorted now new battery plus new thrust arm bearings in the front and brake piston kits but all worth it as it’s a tremendous car to drive for an older car there is nothing as expensive as a cheap Mercedes rings true but I wouldn’t drive anything else apart from my old Volkswagen,
@@mpkcleaningservices-cardet2835 the car was moved on not long after the filming of this so unfortunately no updates on it, I can imagine costs are high to keep this on the road though

Hi Lee, Glad to see you’re still tinkering with cars, I remember it was your passion 👍🏼 stumbled across your channel after talking to someone about mustangs and oil coolers! 🤦🏻🤣 Take care, regards Chris (ELE 110R)
How is the flooring holding up ? do you think you could place a car on it ? Jack it up etc ? I'm guessing you would need something under the jack to spread the load ?

@@mervynhardy6161 like your comment, rotten and pointless
Nice work. Where are the tool cabinets from down the side?
Ikea buddy, the Bror system
It is Getrag with "G" as in "Going". It is an abbreviation of Getriebe AG - sort of "Tansmission Inc." turned into Transinc.
On a mini with a PSA engine I guess before 2010 that engine needed to come out would not be necessary am I right????
Not too sure but it wouldn't surprise me, the space is extremely tight!
On my Ranger, backing sensors and reverse lights do not work when gear is on reverse. Could it be a faulty reverse switch?
Possibly either the switch or fuses potentially
And it was funny how many of those "standard" manufacturers built luxury models back then. Ford had Granada 2.8i Ghia (and later Scorpio), Renault 25, Opel Senator/Monza, Fiat Croma, Citroen CX/XM/C6, Peugeot 605/607, Saab 9000... only Volvo is in that league anymore with V90 / XC90. Others have given up as Audi, BMW and Mercedes completely dominate that segment (save Lexus which is pretty much a re-badging of old Toyota Crown). Cheers.
I remember seeing them in the car magazines priced but it was a very rare sight to see on the road. They were rather expensive and therefore competed against 5-series BMW and E-class (well it wasn't E class then) Mercedes-Benz. You could see Senators occasionally but Monza was very rare. Fine car but I think its only problem was the Opel badge which didn't carry the same prestige for the yuppie buyers as Jaguar or Mercedes. Same fate as Peugeot 605 and later 607 really. It's a fascinating car and the performance numbers were quite respectable back then as the standards were completely different. Real car guys' thing to restore this... I love it.
@@detonator2112 was a great car to work on
Manual transmission rare at that Lovely car
Such a lovely car to drive
I have a 600 Bandit. If a cold engine starts without choke, there's a problem with the mixture. Full choke, start, back off choke in the first few miles as it warms up.
Seems noisy? I thought these cars were supposed to be quiet??
Was quiet but I think my microphone was picking up a lot and making it sound worse
Great video with clear step by step instructions. Much appreciated, and will be of great help when I do this job on mine.
Glad it helped

Well done you guys, a perfect restoration. I have always loved the Monza since my parents bought a green series 2 1983 model with Getrag 5 speed. Bought it secondhand with 8 k miles only for £9000 in 1984. They toured Europe in it probably nearer 28 mpg. average . I then found a four wheel drive Monza in Northampton which was tested by Motor in 1981 against the new Audi Quattro, where the testers praised the handling and ride over the Audi, though slightly heavier it was not quite a quick, mainly because they were testing an automatic Monza versus a manual Audi Later I found this silver FF MONZA MK 3 which is manual and just as quick as the Audi th-cam.com/video/R3VY5a9jVP8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_diYrqPtP766Hm2t In January this year Classic and Sportscar did a reunion of the Motor test and came up here with an Audi. Here is the Blue FF car I think after being shown at the Excel centre
Some people say the models from 07-09 are unreliable compared to the 03-06. Would anyone agree with this? Seen it on car wizard whos a reputable mechanic
oh no way i worked at the company that made that R2D2 and it was me that designed it haha, guessing either says WESCO or ZEON underneath?
ZEON underneath buddy
@@theoddjobs3749 that's it ha that's funny. Garage turned out great by the way. I don't have a garage at ours but trying to look at a new house next year and want a garage so good inspiration
Thanks buddy, hope it helped you with some ideas, everyone has different tastes but that’s what suited me, I’ve done an update video recently on how it’s worked out over the year, and some pros and cons
Thats my old car, i bought it from a chap in Devon, brought it home to Dorset, used it as my daily runner for a couple of years, sold it to a lad local, who didnt look after it, and was involved in an accident on the left front corner, i fitted a different dash to it as the original one was really cracked, great to see it still going

How good is that caliper tool
Yeah worked pretty well to be fair

They are really hard wearing
Why did you take nuts off ...only need to loose them and lift off terminals...really bad video, dont do !!
It was cold and dark many years ago, thanks for the comment , we realised later on not to remove the nuts, live and learn
Who supplied your garage door please? Has the door been reliable. Would you recommend the company? Looking at replacing an old up and door as part of y garage renovation. Got the same Ikea cabinet as youve used after seeing the first video you did. Hope your move abroad is a success. Goodluck in all ypu do mate
Thanks buddy, really appreciate the comment, the garage door is from a company called Rollerdoor UK, absolutely would recommend, they were really responsive, came and gave me a free quote, they understood my needs for more space, very helpful indeed, never had an issue with it at all, works perfect and looks great.
Love your garage. I will copy some of your ideas into mine😅
Happy to of given you some ideas
Nice set up, my only thought would be that I would have mounted the TV on a wall away from the bench top. Simply because it looks awesome above the bench but when you use the bench it is too close and you cannot really see the shows.
Yeah I did think that but due to sockets it was only real place I could put it

I have a 2019 ford edge and a buddy installed the wiring harness for a trailer hitch and ever since then I've had this parking fault error and it has to do with the rear (Only does it when you put it in reverse). The dealership said they won't touch it because it's corroded and they said it would be $740 to fix it. They said the thing was unplugged. So I'm sure my buddy just forgot to plug it back in cause it was working fine before that. I'm hoping with the help of this video I can locate and fix it myself. Thanks for the video!
Hopefully it helps, the sensors are pretty cheap to buy if one does need replacing, dealership wanting to charge $740 is ridiculous
@@theoddjobs3749 Heck yeah it is. They said the whole wiring needs to be changed to because it's all corroded so that's why it's so much money. I can't see replacing all the wiring. That's just ignorant and a huge waste of money.
@@viprgaming641 they just seem to want the easiest path to fixing it , problem with modern day mechanics (not all) they would rather replace rather than diagnose and fix
