I have a 280 SL on a 96 plate. Had it for 24 years. It has 86k on the clock. It’s a bit low on power but with all the speed restrictions in UK now it is good enough for leisurely country drive.

The straight six is the best engine from an engineering perspective. Perfectly balanced . The v8 has more torque, but I found it made the car nose heavy . The v12 was sold in the U.K. I’ve owned a r107, r230 and r231 . The r 129 is the best of the bunch !

Great review of a great car. I had a 92 500SL for 14 years & sold it this February. Then a 96 SL320 a neighbour owned fell in my lap for a steal of a deal price for a really nice example .R129's are so addictive & as they age I prefer the simplicity of that straight 6. Current one has 127000 Kilometers ,all original rust free never winter driven with 3 previous owners. Originally purchased in Vancouver & now in Calgary. I believe these are currently undervalued especially considering the build quality & the overcomplicated newer SLs after 2002.I was born in London & go back to visit & our Canadian roads are much worse than roads & the ride quality & rigidity with the hardtop installed makes it a wonderful Coupe.

It’s an amazeballs car, Sam is the car guru on our channel but honestly I loved every minute of it, don’t think quality comes close with modern cars

I’ve never seen those dials on a 97 car . I’ve owned mine for 18 years can’t ever imagine selling . We drove to Tuscany and back in June . Didn’t miss a beat.

1997 40th Anniversary SL320 with 41K miles in Phoenix, AZ. And I can truly attest to an in-line sixes raspiness. 😂 and everything is blue including the trim. There is no other color than blue and gray in the 40th anniversary.

Thanks, guys a pleasant mini introduction to an R129 these cars are the best choice if you are looking for a quality modern classic with unparalleled build standards, a Jaguar xk8 is more stylish but its build quality is junk in comparison ... Love you guys keep up the good work

I have the exact car in Oz - had it 10 years, the main reason for selecting the 6cyl was that it’s not as complex as the others. I won’t part with it but over due a cosmetic freshen up - the Queensland sun is hard on the non mechanical parts of the car. Some parts are becoming hard to find and can be expensive.

Any plans for an update on the 1.8 s manta berlinetta . I Subscribed when you got it and watched every video since … i love the channel . Yours is even the same colour as my parents had . but that manta is special to me and theres not alot of content on you tube with mantas at all . me and my brothers grew up flying about the back of one as there was no seat belts in the back haha what a car it was parents cried after they had to get rid of it after 23 years and being honest my brothers and i shed a few tears also what a car deserves a bigger following in general just so many memories from childhood as im sure all us petrol heads have of there parents cars im just glad we didnt grow up with the austin maestro next door had 😂
