Pasadena Sub RailVideos
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 24 ต.ค. 2015
I record 4K videos of trains in Southern California. I do most of my work in 3 areas, Los Angeles, the San Gabriel Valley, and the Inland Empire. Trains of all kinds are found here, including Metrolink, BNSF, Amtrak, Union Pacific, and LACMTA Light Rail.
My channel was created to document the Pasadena Subdivision, the historic Santa Fe route into Los Angeles, and remains a core focus of the channel. I like to record places and operations that not many people know about.
In addition to my work on the Pasadena Subdivision, I record at dozens of more places, such as Downtown LA, the Crestmore Branch, San Bernardino, Pomona, Cajon Pass, Redlands, Covina, Kaiser, and many more found in the playlists.
Common subdivisions and their associated branches in my home territory I record are:
SCRRA River Subdivision
SCRRA Pasadena Subdivision
SCRRA San Gabriel Subdivision
UP Alhambra Subdivision
UP Los Angeles Subdivision
BNSF Cajon Subdivision
SCRRA Shortway Subdivision

Heavy Wyoming Powder River Coal Trains at Logan Hill - BNSF Orin Subdivision 8/13/2024
On day 2 of my trip to the Powder River Basin in Wyoming I found myself at the iconic Logan Hill, the summit of BNSF's Orin Subdivision, from either side of this point on the line, tracks descend at a 1% or so grade on average, which is challenging for the heavy coal trains that traverse the line. Here the mainline is four tracks, though the furthest west main was used as storage for empty coal hoppers at this time. From both directions, both loaded and empty coal drags dramatically pull up the hill often in Notch-8, using every last horsepower in their locomotives. Today was busy, where both BNSF and UP were running lots of traffic into and out of the mines to the north. Aside from the BNSF and UP trains, an MRL locomotive made its way onto a BNSF loaded coal train, as they often find themselves in coal service due to the absorption of the MRL into the BNSF. Enjoy over two and a half hours of a coal hauling railroad drama that's not matched anywhere else!
Thanks for watching!

Union Pacific's J Yard Switcher YJY68 on the Alameda Industrial Lead - Vernon, CA 12/12/2024
มุมมอง 2.6K4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Here's another chase I did of the YJY68, the J Yard Switcher. Today it had work on the two industries of the Alameda Industrial Lead, both which are owned by Sweetener Products, one of which is located in what is known as a "rathole" which is an old LA railroader term for tracks passing inside tight spaces inside or between buildings. I started off at J Yard, where they headed lite down the lea...

Today the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority conducted signal testing along the shared right of way corridor from Azusa to San Dimas to make sure both the LRT signaling systems between the extension and existing Metro A Line would work, as well as new block signals and crossing shunts on the FRT track aka the Pasadena Subdivision. Testing consisted of running two LRT transits, and one BN...

In December 2023, the Metrolink River Subdivision's West Bank Line underwent significant upgrade work as part of a systemwide shutdown of the Metrolink system for work. However, Amtrak into Los Angeles wasn't cancelled, and instead ran on a modified detour route, taking it on a bypass of LA Union Station along the east side of the river, and down the Alameda Corridor for a maneuver to get the S...
BNSF's First Watson Roadswitchwer in Hawthorne, El Segundo, and Lawndale, CA w/ BNSF 130 12/23/2024
On BNSF's classic Harbor Subdivision, I did a chase of the daily First Watson Roadswitcher heading to El Segundo. With the one-of-a-kind BNSF 130 on point, the only GP60M to be in H3 colors, I caught it at the iconic Rosecrans Truss Bridge, switching the Chevron Yard in El Segundo, at the Doguglas St Metro Station, the Rosecrans Bridge again, and lastly, in the scenic city of Lawandale, where t...
The Exquisite BNSF 130 on the Harbor Subdivision - First Watson Switcher 12/24/2024
On Christmas Eve I did another chase of the BNSF First Watson Roadswitcher on the northern part of the Harbor Subdivision. Today's power was the same as last chase with the unique, exquisite locomotive, BNSF 130 on point. I started off in Lawndale, where the train after dropping loads at Alcoa, came up lite (except for the empty buffer hopper), as it headed to El Segundo. The switching maneuver...

Yeah! That never happens since usually the tracks are used for normal bi directional operations

Awesome shots! really cool perspective of some rails that don't get attention. stay safe out there man thanks for the vid!
Thanks dude I appreciate the comment! Glad you enjoyed this footage! Been trying to get a train on this branch for a while

Some Piercings through the low nose or the cab sunshade and its style is perfect! 😅

Why’s their is a derailed well car left abandoned 7:33
It’s LA…lots of things are left abandoned
They probably just left it for a while after a derailment. Pretty common to see a derailed car still sitting weeks or even months after it happened.
@@Jason-rn4jk Especially humans - and cats, probably.
Hey, how about sending your photos you have taken of these graffiti scared locomotives to Union Pacific and ask them how can they allow their switch crews to work on locomotives in this condition? I'd like to see what response you get from Union Pacific...
As if the graffiti had any effect on the locomotive?
I’d put money on them not responding at all LOL
California has given up hope, their governor encouraged the crime, and no time, end result graffiti artists galore!
@@PasadenaSubColin 😂😂😂 😂😂 Well let's see if Uncle Pete, I mean, Union Pacific will respond.... Send your photos to them.. You know what? Santa Fe, oops, BNSF has a yard about 15 miles south of Union Pacific's "J" Yard called Watson Yard near the ports of L.A. and Long Beach. I'm sure you are aware this yard. It's been in the area for decades... I have a story to share with you about the history of Watson Yard and what Santa Fe had to go through to get to Watson Yard from Hobart Yard in East Los Angeles.. Southern Pacific would not give Santa Fe trackage rights to run their trains direct south from Hobart Yard to Carson, Torrance area.. Santa Fe had to build a line and run their merchandise and later container stack trains from Hobart Yard in East L.A., southwest through L.A., eastside of LAX through El Segundo through Manhattan Beach, Torrance southeast to Carson, Wilmington to get to Watson Yard and the ports of L A. and Long Beach before the Alameda Corridor was built.. I say all of this that if BNSF can keep their switching locomotives graffiti free working out of Watson Yard, surely Union Pacific can do the same at J Yard...
hahaha that graffity
Looks like someone draw eyes, nose and the mouth on front of the Union Pacific 1150 locomotive train.
Someone did...... Graffiti 🎨 art at it's finest!!!!

I can’t believe management leaves it like that. There is an epoxy that doesn’t allow paint to be on the surface…

“Rat hole” is a nickname for any industrial lead in LA by old UP and SP crews that goes in between tight spaces between buildings or inside buildings. Ever since the mass decline in freight rail carload traffic in downtown LA, this is the only one that really remains
These videos of Down Town are crazy cool. This goes way back to when my Dad used to take me to his work at General Electric back in the day. I remember watching the trains coming out out alleys. The lawlessness of the taggers, and the reality that railrpading still exists down there is so cool. Thank you for posting these. Took me back 40 or 50 years. 😅
Super Cool Video. Thank you so much for taking the time to shoot and post. So this local has a 4 person crew? Take care be safe.
Glad you guys enjoyed. This day there was a 4th guy that was a trainee. This job gets trainees a lot since it’s a relatively simple and straightforward switch
@@PasadenaSubColin Thanks for the info. Makes sense. Again, great footage.
Not usually a fan of graffiti on railroad equipment but I make an exception for this locomotive.
Great video. The locomotive paint job is of course spectacular, but the best part is at about 13:00 where some guy is throwing rocks at the train while they are working the yard. Wait! That's one of the crew! Another happy UP employee. Safety first.
Normally I hate graffiti, but what a sense of humor!!
Great video and I am looking forward to opening day soon!😊
Excellent Colin!
A GP60M with a K5HL!
Yeah I can tell from the reactions this community isn't exactly coastal
07:44 Not a fan of graffiti, but this one is funny.
Omg why all this unnecessary honk sounds? Probably because of safety. Just some barriers are enough, at least in Europe.
3:38-4:37 Did the Crown Valley Road railroad crossing in Acton get its original mechanical bells reinstalled by any chance? The latest Google Street View images from January 2024 show the crossing still had electronic bells, a Safetran Type 2 and a WCH Type 4. But now the video shows the crossing back with its original mechanical bells, WCH and Safetran (fast ringing).
Maintainer put them back up for some reason
@PasadenaSubColin That's strange. A lot of us as railfanners prefer mechanical railroad crossing bells instead of the electronic ones.
9:40 GTA moments
great video ❤❤😍😍
14:54 i like the little lrt race there lol. great catches!
Have you ever railfan donnar pass
Great video
A lot of the paint graffiti is a work of art.
What a shit hole that city is
Trainz in da hood...
Quite interesting no graffiti on the loco engine numbers
10:04 I can barely see my bus.
I can’t imagine coming to a crossing at night and seeing this beast run past … 😂
