Why would you shovel the pool deck? That is not part of driveway and sidewalks. I'd fire you just for that. Plus doing the driveway at 7am is quite different from being in the backyard at 7am. You need to respect people's boundaries.

It was kind of you to give him the discount, and I agree with the person that said it is an unprofessional look to show up without the proper equipment, but I don’t think it’s a deal breaker, it’s fair to ask for a small discount. Several years ago we bought a metal roof and when the workers came out ( they drove over an hour to get to our place), they asked us if we had a ladder they could use because they had forgotten to bring one. We just laughed and said of course 😂. My husband even made them some homemade food and they were very happy…( hubby is a great cook). If I were to receive the gift card, it would be used for some things for my grandkids, no wasting. Clothes, food, etc. 🎉

You should redo your contract, stating upon your arrival if you measure the snow and it’s less than the contracted amount then additional charges may apply

First, I would have told her I saw her watching me shovel so, she didn’t ’just notice’ I was there. Second, your contract needs to include a cancellation clause stating at least 72 hours notice required and day of service cancellation will still be billed. Third, always make your arrival known before starting the job. Fourth, if your contracts don’t include the second, add it and send all your customers a new contract to sign along with a cordial letter explaining you have had too many same day cancellations and regret having to include such a clause but, business is business and you must get paid for services rendered. If she goes to her neighbors and they receive your new contract, they will know why it’s necessary. Most people are good and would expect to pay for service.
