    I had to put higher bars on my T140V. Switched from 25" W flat drag bars, to a 5" rise similar to yours, also 25" W. When I was young I could easily crane my neck to look forward. Not any more. Higher bars fixed that. See my videos for close look.

    • @MadTinkerman
      @MadTinkerman 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi @Zulutime44, that's cool that you've essentially done similar to myself, changing out the low bars for ones with a higher rise. They definitely make the bike nicer to ride in my opinion. If I was 25 years old I might have a different opinion, but at this point I am much happier with the more upright riding position. Interesting that you found bars with a 25" span. Mine are 29" with 8" rise but 9" sweep back, or thereabouts so at the grips they are closer to 5" high, similar to yours. Great video by the way! I watched the full video and have subscribed. If you haven't already if you could do me the favour of subscribing too, that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again for reaching out and leaving a comment! Cheers!

    Not sure is your adjustments resolved the click on operating the clutch. When I rebuilt my clutch, it started making that noise. I saw a "raber's tech tip #1" video that explained what was causing it. As I recall, the fix was to slacken off the clutch cable at the lever, then adjusting the clutch push rod (in the center of clutch basket. Needs to be screwed in to to make contact, then backed off a 1/2 to 3/4 slack. Without that play, the lever is overextending the lift mechanism and snapping the ball bearing out of its keeper. Also, really good is lunmads video on how to balance the clutch basket so there is no wobble. He did it by kicking over the bike with the clutch lever engaged, a bit easier to see the wobble than when you turn it by hand.

    • @MadTinkerman
      @MadTinkerman 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi @DodgyBagehot, you're absolutely right about the clutch adjustment and works exactly as you have described. That process fully resolves the annoying 'clicking' that can occur when the clutch is maladjusted. Lunmad's videos are great and I have watched many of them too. Sorry to know that he has passed on, but he lives on his videos, continuing to provide great advice. The main issue I had other than just a stuck clutch was how hard the clutch lever was to pull combined with the engagement point being right at the end of the throw (when correctly adjusted). Both of those problems are now fixed. In this video I installed a 7 disc clutch with reduced the amount of force needed to pull in the clutch lever: th-cam.com/video/yGT0_aIy-4I/w-d-xo.html Then I did a very easy modification to change the engagement point of the clutch (while still adjusted correctly), enabling the engagement point to move closer to the handlebar rather than at the end of the throw: th-cam.com/video/DV3kxgZJmx0/w-d-xo.html Can't thank you enough for your comment and for watching the videos! @@MadTinkerman my 77 t140 had only 4k on it when I got it in 2019 , last registered in 1981. While the clutch had seized (of course), once I cleaned it up, the stack was well within spec. So I kept them. I have heard others say the clutch on these bikes is stiff, I have not found that to be the case. I wonder if different model years had different leverage on the handle. I did rebuild it, replaced the liquidfied rubber bumpers (whatever those are called) checked the rear thrust washer etc and lubed roller bearings. the basket needed a little clean up. I have found that if I don't clear the clutch an hour or so after a ride, it will get stuck. If rocking the bike in gear is not enough, you can always put it on center stand, start it up and put in gear, wait for it to warm up a bit, then ease on the back brake while holding clutch lever in. (Of course, keep front brake engaged, and weight forward to keep rear wheel up) In terms of operation, smooth shifting, no slipping, no clunks, I've had no problem with the original clutch plates. The trick of taking some pressure off the clutch by engaging clutch with a strap or something while it cools off might seem peculiar, but it is cheap. I'll run these until they are out of spec and then see what the modern materials are like. The original friction plate material looked like cork to me. Don't know.

    • @MadTinkerman
      @MadTinkerman 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      HI @DodgyBagehot what a find! A 1977 bike with only 4K on it and not registered since 1981 is amazing and pretty much unobtanium if you were trying to find one! That's great that were you were able to save the old clutch discs by cleaning them up. By taking it apart and cleaning up the discs and clutch basket I was able to save mine as well and rode it for a while but the clutch lever was still quite stiff. I measured 43lbs of pressure (using an old fish scale) to pull the lever and, although not totally necessary as there was plenty of clutch material, I decided to swap it out. When I did the seven disc clutch mod I measured the old and new clutch plates with my caliper and interestingly the old clutch plates were a little bit larger than spec, which I found weird and I think that may have been the issue on my bike. The seven disc clutch are smaller than spec of course to allow for the 7th disc. Not sure if someone put the wrong fibre plates in it or if they were just manufactured poorly or what. In any event changing them out made a huge difference and now it only takes 17lbs of pressure to pull in the lever, so about 2.5x improvement and zero issues with the clutch sticking so far. I just clear the clutch before I start it each time by pulling in the lever and giving it a couple of kicks. For your bike with the original discs, apparently back in the day most guys put a rubber band or vise grips or something else to hold the clutch lever depressed after each ride, so that's probably the thing to do, although seemingly a bit weird, if it works that might be the thing to do with a bit of a nod to how it was done back in the day. Thanks again for the comment and have fun riding the great bike!

    I have a dilemma having a 77 TR7V and many pre-purchased upgrades such as new Harris crank, conrods, mega cycle cams etc but I'm hankering after long ďistance trips (by uk standards) and don't know if it could hack it on modern roads or I should consider a modern T100 instead.

    • @MadTinkerman
      @MadTinkerman 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi @p--n, its a great question and frankly not sure it is one I can answer other than to say that I think it would be totally fine given the great shape you have your 77 TR7V in. You'd probably want to stay at places where you can keep the bike under shelter though as the Lucas electrics have known to be potential areas of concern when they get wet, or so I have been told. Especially the kill switch. Other than that, I think it would be fine. I used to have a 1927 Chev Landeau (old car) that was in great shape but was always a bit concerned about taking it too far from home. Then I got myself an Automobile Association membership that included towing anywhere you needed to go within a 250 km radius (not just the nearest point of service) and that enabled us to take the car confidently on long road trips as long as we stayed within 250km of home. Not sure if there is some equivalent where you live but might you give you the peace of mind to go for it. I am sure it will be very rewarding if you do. Cheers!

    Great project, well done. I have one as well and have a question Coming out of the motor are three small wires. One goes to the kill switch and the other two are just terminated and don't connect to anything. Any idea what they would go to? I've seen some with a factory option brake light so I thought perhaps that but not sure how that would be engaged with the brake system. I'm going to use a multimeter and see what they put out.

      @TheOpethium, great question and equally great to hear you have one of these bikes too! It's been almost two years since I did this project so had to look back at notes and other info I have. I can confirm that literature from Fuji Motors states that the ignition system has a 'flywheel magneto with lighting coil.' It doesn't state the voltage, but your meter should figure that out pretty quick. Hope this helps! If you haven't already, please subscribe! I would really appreciate it. @MadTinkerman 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi, I can't remember where I purchased the parts I needed from, but here is how you search the internet to find the part you want. First, find the part numbers you need. Here is a link to the generator model (assuming you have the exact same model) where you can find the part numbers for the filter assembly: www.partzilla.com/catalog/kawasaki/generator/gat40a-as00-ga1400-a/air-filter-muffler Make note of the part number(s) you need and search using the word 'Kawasaki' or 'Kawasaki Generator' and the part number you need. Do not include the generator model number or you will get too many hits. This is how I found the part I needed. Hopefully this helps. If you haven't already, please subscribe! Hi @jamesa6272, sorry to hear your brakes are locked up. I have not had that issue (yet), but since you have purchased new lines, the very fist thing I would try is to release the pressure and brake fluid via the air bleeder. Failing that suggest you work on taking the pads out of the calipers, the same as if you were doing a brake job. Not sure if you have seen his videos or not, but 'Songs from the Saddle' swears by EBC HH-rated sintered pads (EBC FA016HH) brake pads as they apparently give much better feel than the OEM style pads. Hello; is not clearly why so stuck? How much you screw the clutch adjusters in depend on the thickness of the plates pack. In the manual says the thickness and mention to flush with the bolts but that is a reference due to the worn out of a used plate so you should screw them a bit more. Do the math. However; if you use a 7 plate kit (I have a Hyde one in a 79 and a MAP 6 plates on other 79) you need to measure again to decide. No slip no drag and no stuck ever with the MAP clutch. Possible the same with the Hyde but I do not have thousands of km on it yet. --Is important to understand that the clutch do not need oil; the oil is for the chain mainly; so the plates should be assembled dry -check the spring length (see manual) May be they are worn out hence you need to screw in more... -When assembling you put 150cc of oil and nothing more. -Other thing to do is align both sprockets; if you check the parts book you will see that there is a number for the shims required. By the way I put around 10000km per year in these bikes mostly with success but is imperative before that to get rid of all the crap that PO s have been butchering and malpractice on them.

      Hi @TheReverb1 thanks so much for the great information and advice! Since that video I have installed a 7 disc clutch kit by Aerco. I am in Canada and the Hyde kit would have taken longer to get here but apparently the Aerco is very similiar to the Hyde that you have. It has made a huge difference in terms of how hard the clutch lever was to operate and the clutch no longer sticks. I have done a video on that job too. If you haven't already, please subscribe! Nice project sir. These are in my opinion, the best Triumphs for modern usage. Have put over 20k miles on my 1980 as a daily commuter. Couple of tips. Champion NC3s. These bikes do not like NGKs. High zinc oil. Kendall 20w50 or Brad Penn. Sump plate filter set up with paper element. Don’t listen to all the ramblings on filter restriction. I’ve put 1000s of miles on my OIFs with these and zero issues. Amal Premiers. Worth the investment. NO Mikunis You will regret that move if that’s the route you take. Bike is not original paint although beautiful colors. Pilot jets are plugged.. If your removing the timing cover to access the oil pump. It is crucial that the cover seal at the crank end is renewed and installed correctly.

      @mickgerard6696 great to hear you believe these are the best vintage Triumphs for modern usage! When I got the bike it had NGK resistor plugs in it (BPR7ES) and I changed them to the non-resistor variant BP7ES and it seems to run fine on those. That said, I am going to search out some Champion NC3's on your good advice and give those a try. Hard to find high zinc motorcycle oil. I am currently running Castrol 20/50 MC oil. I am in Canada but will try to source the Kendall / Brad Penn brands you mention. As for the sump I am currently running an external screw on oil filter and that works great. I've purchased the Amal Premiers and you're right! The new carbs make a big difference. Thanks for confirming the tank has been repainted. I think it must have been done years / decades ago, but still looks great so going to keep it that way. I replaced the oil pump with a new Morgo standard style oil pump and when I did that job I also replaced the seal as well. I've made videos on all of these jobs and many others on the bike and will continue to document the work going forward. I really appreciate your ideas and sharing a few tips! • @MadTinkerman
      @MadTinkerman หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi @anthonyfullerton6076, thanks so much for your interest in the Go-Devil videos! I hunted around for a bag and found that a company in Australia made some the correct size that would fit the Go-Devil. I've checked my correspondence with them and it was the 'Extra Large' generator bag that I ordered from them and it fit well as you can see. Separately I used a stencil on red vinyl (same as for the seat) to do the Go-Devil logo and then took the rectangular logo to a seamstress / tailor that sewed it onto the bag for me. The great thing about the Outland generator bags is that they are designed to carry significant weight (the weight of a generator). Here's the link to their website and it was the extra large I ordered: outcamp.com.au/collections/generator-bags For the seat, I built the seat pan myself. If you haven't seen that video, click on my channel profile, and then go to playlists and click the 'Go-Devil' playlist where all of the videos are located, including the seat pan one. The company that did the upholstery for me is, in my opinion, the best upholsterer in the Vancouver area that typically do things like boat seats and that sort of thing. They have been in business for decades and called "Royal City Bedding' (bit of a weird name but their business model changed over the decades) They now call themselves RCB Upholstery. Here's the link to their website: rcb.ca I took RCB the seat pan I made, and they upholstered it based on the colours, vinyl fabric and piping I chose. I've checked my emails and the lady I worked with there was named 'Susan' Last name starts with 'O' (not including her full name here as this comment is open to the internet). When I got the upholstered seat back home I then stenciled the logo onto the rear of the seat using vinyl spray paint (also documented in another video in the same Go-Devil playlist). Hope all of this helps! If you haven't already, please subscribe! I really appreciate it!

      @MadTinkerman หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Anthony, very cool that you have three of these, one completed and two on the go! I was going through the same thought process as you regarding the bag and considered having one custom made, but then I realized that it needed to be designed to hold the weight, that's where I got the idea of finding a generator bag and began searching all over for the right size. There may be other options, but Outcamp in Australia was the one that worked for me. Cost was far less than I thought too. Way less than having a bag made. Much to my amazement Road & Track did an article on my bike when I sold it on Bring A Trailer. I am just a tinkering guy, definitely no professional, so was utterly stunned.
