This isn’t just a story of fashion-it’s a story of how an empire that dared to challenge the world with its ideals fell victim to its own contradictions. So how does a brand that dressed royalty, broke taboos, and changed advertising forever crumble into irrelevance and disgrace?

The UNBELIEVABLE Story Of Ralph Lauren
I still have some old items, good quality and design...the clothes now are expensive and poor quality..second hand pieces from the past fetch high prices.
Love this brand especially the smaller handbags and logo sandals-my go to
Interesting. The yassified upscaled childhood pics at the beginning though LMAO
during my young teenage years and early 20's Benetton is my luxury I always buy their brands up to this date my belt which was designed like a whip was so unique its one of a kind and the quality is excellent I love the brand.
I've donated alot of clothes then stopped when I realized my old stuff was quality.
Who cares?
I ALWAYS had Benetton clothes from a child. I cried when our branch closed down in Guernsey about 5 years ago. Their clothes fitted my figure unlike any other brand. I loved the £5 sales! Think it failed in Guernsey as only went up to a UK 12 ( USA 8). Great quality. Must admit never paid attention to advertisements. Sad loss
Still wearing my winter coat. It’s been 12years but still looks great 😊
How sad people chose fast fashion over quality pieces.
I’ve bought tons and tons of MK stuff and was a lover for a few years. I’ve moved on. Coach is far better quality! One time I tried to do a return and they wouldn’t even let me. So I completely ditched them. I’ll keep the ones I have, but I’m not buying anymore for myself or my mom.
I went to senior school (High School) in 1990 and by the time I was 13 there were tonnes of my classmates who were wearing United Col Ben jumpers, they were everywhere. Every time there was an own clothes day there’d be at least 30 girls wearing the same jumpers. That name will always remind me of my school days
20+ yrs ago I saved up money and bought sweater for my little bro on bday. I was in college that time and it was way out of my budget. But that brand was getting popular in India. My bro did not like it so i grabbed it many years later to wear at home as it grew bigger ( after wash) and I am chubby . It was v stylish .Now I know Much about fashion and quality and I realize it was v good quality cotton sweater that because of not properly washing , hung loose but did not pill.
I bought 2 shirts from Benetton, in blue and pink.....after washing looks like they have missed their shape totally and very unmanageable for ironing😢.....Benetton was great in the 90's with beautiful bold colors, not anymore...😮. I miss Sisley and Esprit, sucha refreshing fashion time and good quality too! Zara and HM has a horrible quality! everything is polyester = plastic ATM, Uniqlo and Muji cover my needs for my basics
When I was a teenager, I wanted to appear in one of their advertising campaigns. Because the magazine photos were so vibrant, I kept the majority of them. I was lifted out of my depression by the advertisements. Yes, I attended a fashion design college and had a strong passion for fashion. I've changed now, and I like environmentally conscious, sustainable fashion. I might consider purchasing from Benetton if they are moving in the right direction toward environmental responsibility.
Short term thinking and long term greed. I remember high price point, basic fashion and never discount. Its was the go-go 1990's and doing the same fashion in 2020's. They did not have Benetton own store and with own sale associate to catch zeitgeist. Listen to your Franchisee for feedback on what selling and not selling Looking at other in your in your category whalther its Polo or tommy hifinger. Above all fashion is about change. Fashion change every ten years. Benetton did not change.
I’m loyal consumer for 30 years .. strategy I think stay focus in same customers that used to buy for years and love this basic of Benetton that known for .. sadly but I switch to Uniqlo from united colors of Benetton .. still love e Thor polos for summer ( iconic for me ) I think 2 lines must be all the basics well known and more fresh young stuff for young generation … trends are good .. but Benetton in my opinion is classic
In recent years their quality was low and their design old fashioned and boring. It's like they only want to make boring sweaters.
Quality is no more. Viscose
I was never able to afford Benetton. The colors were great.
When I was in high school during the 90s, Benetton was so colorful. I don't know what had happened. The brand was degrading.
LlEONI-BALONEY..IT'S KITCH TO DO REDOES OF TIRED 80'S AND SAD 70'S..USED CLOTHING ISFILLED WITH THOSE BRANDS
I bought my first and only benetton shirt my senior year of high school. I thought I was soooo cool.😊
My Aunti wore lot's if Cloths from Benetton i love the Colors since i couldn't afford to buy from Benetton i tried to saved money so i could by something but it didn't Happened. By the time i could already afford Benetton lot's of Store was already closing..
My favorite brand. It isn't available here in Perú anymore😢
They lost me as a costumer in the 90ies when they started advertising their clothes with the man dying of AIDS . To me the argument of raising awareness for the disease or social grievances is sheer hypocrisy. Exploiting other peoples pain for the profit of a company is disgusting.
I have 2 I’ve been saving for my nephew’s gfs - or my nephews. No judgement. One is getting hers next month 🎂
Never understood this overpriced Gap. Hard pass.
Outlets are the bane of luxury and do nothing but dilute the experience. I like what I am hearing in this video and hope it keeps Coach on an upward trajectory.
I still have a sweater my dad gave me in 1980. It was the most expensive article of clothing I’d ever received. I had no idea about their business model. Great video. New sub!
According to the video, young buyers liked beneton for the willingness to push boundaries and challenge norms. Also according to the video, it became a symbol of rebellion and social justice. Then why was it that all the preppy kids wore beneton to fit in and be accepted? Maybe the brand pushed for edgy advertising but the shoppers liked the style because everyone else who was affluent was wearing it. That's how advertising works; everyone follows the trends. I didnt like beneton because it symbolized snobbery and pretentiousness. I prefered levis, and any rock band teeshirt. Black leather jacket was a must. Now I like classic old school beneton, because it is no longer the social status brand it once was and the vintage items were well made.
I had a wonderful sweatshirt most beautiful quality.. I miss that sweatshirt
Someone I knew stole my first Coach bag 😡
Aids and fashion generally shouldn't go together and at the end of the day it's all fake anyway! We just believe the lies.
Wtf are you going on about. Biggest load of sh!t I've ever heard!
I like the earrings with enamel.
Lots of big words for a company who used controversy to advertise run of the mill clothing
I’ve bought sweaters from Benetton back in the late 80s. They were definitely geared to young people who didn’t know better. I thought their designs and colours were cool back then, but the wool they used was always super itchy, not of good quality, nor ethically and sustainably made compared to other much better brands, like Johnston of Elgin for instance.
I loved the clothes but the advertisement, throughout the years, drove me away. Now, evn though they're trying to return, the advertisement still alienates me. I'm good with not patronizing them any longer.
I wondered about Benetton and Espirit...don't know what happened 2:59 quality garments and you got your money's worth.
I worked in Benetton in Squirrel Hill, PA for several years. Their clothes were top quality, and I spent my whole paycheck there lol. What a wonderful brand. Miss it.
Never heard of her…
I loved Benetton. This was mid ‘80s.
REGARDLESS of their efforts I am not supporting a brand built on the d34ths of so many innocent people, india , Italy even the US... No they don't deserve my money!
More lesbian models in advertising…that will bring colourful change.
No mention of COLORS magazine eh... that's how I first learned of the company/clothing when I was a tween oh so long ago... still have every issue I ever bought. I really hope they can survive because the world needs more examples of companies seeing the light and going forward with doing what is right.
I was a GAP loyal consumer and bought even for my nephews and nieces… was a relaxed way to be “on style” and for my kids … this video is very well made 👍🏽
I was a GAP loyal consumer and bought even for my nephews and nieces… was a relaxed way to be “on style” and for my kids …
The youth DID NOT ADORE IT… the AIDS ad is what killed BENETTON. Disgusting and unforgivable!
they had hot models
I was a teen in the 80’s and I remember Benetton, ESPRIT, Tweeds, and of course JCrew. Good threads; good times!
