Necrons 3E are the most Lovecraftian army in 40k.

Just from the reactions and the vitriol presented to all the good points made in this video is proof enough that this hobby is infiltrated and appropriated by outsiders and tourists.

Posers who acted as though they were supposedly fans and lovers of the setting but secretly despised it, ruined this hobby tabletop and lore wise. They couldn’t accept it for what it was. It had to change for them and unfortunately GW listened to this group. Stuff like Daemonculaba wouldn’t fly with them. They want it to go more mainstream have movies and series and it has to be less edgy for that to happen. Also, AdRick sucks.

I kinda feel like 40k hit the happy middleground between Grimdark atmosphere and actually advancing the story and universe sometime around the fall of Cadia, although it was quickly wiped out by Primaris marines and so on and so forth. Theres not no hope yet, but theres also less everyday.

Very interesting take to hear, i had forgotten how the old necron leadership worked and it is a bit strange how they gave up on the strongest willed characters to just make it all nobles instead. It definitely makes me think what actually qualified them to retain consciousness.

The meme thing pisses me off to an extent... it's easier to give the context: In the original source material the Death Korp of Krieg only ever used their shovels in combat if they had nothing else available to them at that time. However, the meme of them rushing forth with shovels in hand picked up steam pretty fast and pretty hard despite this going against established lore. Soon serious videos showed the DKoK using the shovels as weapons (SODAZ) and finally Games Workshop had the new Kriegers using shovels in official videos. Now the meme is canon despite it going against the written lore.

The silent king probably though himself unworthy to rule over his people, because they are mostly functionally dead, and because by his rule they lost their souls. So yeah him breaking the device is sensical. He had no forethought to think on how the reawakened society would react to his absence still. But his ideas of not letting whats left of his species be slaves is decent imo.

I miss pariahs

They have actual characters now, that’s an upgrade.

Grimdark is about being a cool space demon of a skeleton on a throne (but fights the bad space demons) while being on fire and while looking like a skeleton and having infinite ammo and also basically invincible and also being the damned souls of super soldiers.

dude I can't stress what yor saying enough, even the writing has noticeably gone down hill and is becoming more and more marvelized, where "Da goo guys" always win which for they're now trying to say is the imperium, I don't EVER remember the Imperium EVER being the good guys.....brain rot is invading out beloved universe....more hungry and mind consuming than any tyranid fleet.....

Grimdark is pointless without hope. Why would anyone in the imperium do anything if they didn't think it could get better. Also the chance an imperial citizen could actually be saved by someone like st celestine is what makes it funny when they inevitably get skinned alive by a nightlord

When I think of Grimdark I think of the first couple of arcs of Berserk, all the soul borne games by FromSoft, and the 1st through 5th (and some of the 8th) edition of 40k. This new age crap coming from GW for 40k ... That ain't Grimdark fam. Not Grimdark at all.

i think the best way to describe grimdark is by comparing it to Sisyphean world view, that no matter what you do, how you do it, nothing will improve and the cycle continues, similar to dark souls Sisyphean world, the grimdark is that a chosen undead needs to sacrifice himself to keep the flame going, over and over again, and similar elements in other from soft works, within 40k, its that war is eternal the imperium of man is shattered and constant infighting within every faction, without anyone really succeeding or advancing, (hence the hate for tau, votan and necrons of recently, as they are too moraly human and advanced for the setting,)

I’m gonna stay outta this argument. I prefer Great Crusade era.

Grimdark isn't just the combination of the definitions of grim and dark, and the addition of the nihilism and amoral perspective is exactly what distinguishes grimdark from dark fantasy (well, at least within the fantasy genre. Which, of course, W40k is.) George "Rape Rape" Martin and Joe Abercrombie, for example, are also huge influences in the development of grimdark. This whole discussion is based on cherry-picking elements and deliberately ignoring others.

You cannot sell grim dark to the fragile and sensitive Americans and Chinese. Thus Grim Dark will be stripped away from 40k. It had a good run but GW is fully destroyed itself corporate now.

It feels like a lot of 40k 'fans' can't accept the grimdark of 40k for what it is because everything has to be cynical and 'funny' now. See modern entertainment in general. Ultra-dark and serious is seen as 'edgy' or 'try hard'.

Modern 40k so grim and dark the only thing i feel grim about is what GW is going to do next to ruin it even more

Good Video Nellop. The 40k memes are definetly one of the biggest points that took the Grimdark out of the setting. Because the Warhammer 40k community has a obsession to spam the same misleading unfunny memes for month or even years until not only the normie turist but also the somewhat established newer "fan" takes it for the truth. Its the "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it." situation.

So I do like the humanizing parts (for the different leaders, cause I find it funny and amusing) as long as its not boohoo woe is me. I only let it slide once for the Silent king.
