I went to the Apple Store to check them out since mine is a 13 and the battery is at 72%. I don’t like the side button. It’s fine if you are doing landscape video or photos. It is like the volume control , it’s awkward. Apple intelligence? Let’s see it when it’s out. For the things I do I don’t really see the need. I paid the $100.00 to have a new battery put in instead.

I just had the opportunity to compare the GX80 and the G80. Both are really nice. But the rangefinder style does not feel as comfortable to hold with zooms, and the viewfinder is smaller. Maybe many people prefer having a beefier grip. At least I do. Just my perspective. And the G80 was 100€ cheaper also.

I am someone who has been using the G9 for the last four years. I love it. But I am planning on buying a G90/G95, not to replace the G9, but to supplement it. I am attracted to the lighter weight for vlogging, unlimited video recording, live composit, and panorama. Panorama is a very useful feature for me, and I hate that manufacturers won't put it in higher end cameras. I rotate the camera and use the vertical sweep option to do horizontal panoramas and get greater resolution that way. There are times when I prefewr to shoot a series of stills to stitch later, but most of the time, a simple in-camera stitch is all that is required. The idea that professionals wouldn't want in-camera sweep panoramas is asinine. We want the choice. It is a testiment to how good both the G9 and G90/G95 are, that they are both still being sold today, and customers still want them, despite the phase detect demand amongst the TH-cam review brigade.

One imperfect workaround I've found for Lumix power zoom lenses to start at a specific zoom range is to use the Step Zoom feature in conjunction with Lens Position Resume feature in the camera settings. I use the Step Zoom feature to shoot at the 35mm or 50mm focal length 90% of the time. In other words, I use the Step Zoom feature to turn a power zoom lens like the PZ 14-42m or the lens on the ZS200 into a kind of hybrid prime lens. In most cases, the lens will be at 35mm or 50mm when the camera is powered off and on. For the occasional time I need to go longer in my kind of shooting, it usually involves only taking a telephoto shot or two before returning to a regular length to continue.

Thanks! It is useful advice, I have actually been experimenting a lot with the g9, not sure if this is generally right for small sensors, but I have found that increasing the shutter speed helps with sharpness significantly, even if the iso is higher, as long as the exposure meter is close to 0. I am now shooting on very high isos even in good light just to raise the speed. I did not make the connection, but will try using shutter priority modes from now on, and maybe use an fn button to change the metering mode.

    • @ToddBannor

Interesting observation. High ISOs are mostly a problem when you underexpose, because of noise in darker areas. So you can get decent results in good light.

Great advice here! Just back from Alaska SE cruise myself a few days ago, and spent months overthinking what to bring :) In the end I only used the EM5.3 w/ Oly 12-200 lens (aside from a few interior ship shots with the 9mm PL), and probably could have gotten away with just a 12-100 - was pure vacation mode, travel minimalist is the way to go as you suggest! Also brought the pocket 3 and gopro - thinking to go more minimalist in the future, could just downsize to just a g9ii for photo and great stabilized video...

I'm sure that was a great trip. If we were to do it again, I'd take my G9II, 14-140, 100-300 and PL9 as well. I'd probably also take my OP3 and the little ZS200 for Zodiac tours. The only place where we got wet was that clip of a Zodiac tour in the Inian Islands. The tidal current was so fast it was like whitewater rafting on the ocean. I saw the wave in time, another guy facing away from it got his little Nikon superzoom drenched and that was the end of that.

@@ToddBannor haha that’s unfortunate about the Nikon:) another thing I learned is what excursions to take and more importantly not take next time - whitewater rafting sounds amazing, most of our outings were pretty tame but still breathtaking! Funny thing is that I shoot way more than they do and I post my photos online while I never see theirs. So much for asking about noise and apertures. Nice video Todd and I 100% agree with you. It is crazy when people knock the system without trying it, but I have to admit that I was one of those. When I saw an ad in a magazine for the original E-M1 I was intrigued. When I looked up the specs online and saw it was Micro 4/3 I didn't know what that was as I was shooting Canon full frame. I looked up the specs on m43 and thought, "WTH??? A 'Pro' camera? Really?" Probably a typical response from one who "moved up" from APS-C to FF. A few years later I was in a camera store in Vienna and was intrigued by the size of the EM-5 mkii and researched photos taken by it when I got back to the US and eventually sold my 6D and 80D and went full speed ahead to M43 after renting one for a week. So yes, you have to try it to see what it can offer. I have no regrets at all and find the photos as good when not pixel peeping; an amazing feat for a sensor 1/4 the size of a 35 mm sensor. I took portraits of my son for his graduation and the uneducated photographer would be amazed that they were from M43 when printed to 36X24.

The silly question is a product of the 35mm "Fool Frame" herd who fantasise their format is the only "professional" format. I've been writing and illustrating my own magazine articles for about 30 years, across four different publications, mainly using 4/3 and then Micro 4/3 format cameras and lenses. I also worked as an editorial assistant on a national magazine. In all my years I NEVER had an editor question the image quality of my images. So much for 35mm superiority!

Most camera people online don't print either. When you have software tools like the likes of DXO, the difference in a actual print is ridiculously small. For telephoto beyond 200mm FF, you'd have to be VERY serious about your photography because you're sacrificing your physical health (back, wrists, etc.).

I owned a Lumix G2 (which my 3yr old grandson now uses) then a GH4 then a GH5 then I added a G9. I replaced the GH5 with a GH5s and that & the G9 were my Hybrid staple for several years. I ‘discovered’ Street Photography 2 years ago and bought a wonderful GX9 and all was well in the world until I saw a Fuji X-Pro 3 for a bargain price from a Camera Store so I decided to try it (knowing I could sell it for more than I paid). Fast forward 18 months: I still have the X-Pro 3 (and have never folded the screen down past 90degrees!), I sold the GX9 and bought 3 small lenses for Street. I also sold the Lumix G9 and bought a used XT-3 as my Main photo Camera. Having settled on the idea of Fuji for Photos and Lumix for Videos (compartmentalisation) I still have the Lumix GH5s and added a GH5ii (bargain price Used) and they both sit in SmallRig cages and each has an Atomos Ninja V to buddy up with. . . . . C4k and Apple ProRes 422! I do a mixture of Pro Bono and Paid Gigs for photography and videography (but never both at the same time 🤯) and my current equipment is absolutely fit for purpose (considering I always use manual focus for video). I suppose a key factor in this is that I know how to use the equipment I have and how to get the best out of it!

There are plenty of professional photographers on TH-cam who use MFT professionally. Some also use other systems for specific jobs. I especially like the 150-600 for wildlife. I mostly hand hold it. I'm not sure I would go that far. But, I have a close relative who's on the spectrum but high functioning. He does have trouble with nuance.

I shoot weddings with M43. The cameras I use are the Olympus OMD E-M1ii. With Lightroom noise reduction the old version I'll push the cameras to ISO 3,200. If I use DXO PureRaw I'll go to ISO 6,400. If you Google Russian wedding photographer uses Micro Four Thirds the guy is really good. He was shooting Olympus OMD E-M5 and Olympus PEN E-P5. I believe he uses all primes.

If you use the free OM System Workspace app then your .ORF files can use a free AI De-noise function that is built-in and works very well with my shots up to ISO6400.

In Germany there is a saying: „entscheidend ist, was hinten raus kommt.“, which means the end result is what counts. Is the goal of a good photo achieved? If yes, every thing is fine. And on financial perspective the return on invest is better if you get the same results with less money and less hauling. Good video! Thanks.

My thoughts too. I regularly photograph exhibition openings with an Olympus EM1 mark III. I also photograph all the artworks. They are all used to advertise the exhibitions. I photograph the crowds at the exhibitions and individual portraits of artists all with the Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 lens. The lighting can be a bit dim but it does not matter. I do not have to do anything to the photographs when they are put online on Facebook Book and Instagram. When the photographs are printed for magazines they are fine and I will do a small amount of post processing. I own some latest Full frame Canon camera and APSC camera too. I love the IBIS in the Olympus camera. I love the IBIS in my Panasonic G9 too.

Thanks Todd, much appreciated. I know that you are not an OM System user, but there is a OM System user named Thomas Eisl. Thomas has very technical information about OM System and it is better suited towards pro photographers. One thing he does discuss is the proprietary software called "OM System Workspace", which is free of you own an Olympus/OM camera. What Thomas discusses is how this software is really designed to be an extension of the camera software. He then explains how it can be used, in conjunction with the in camera exposure settings, to optimise the output from the RAW files. No one else ever discusses this stuff.

Hi Todd, I worked out what the magnet in the strap is used for? I am currently travelling throughout Greece with my wife 😊. I packed two cameras and lenses. I use the PD Wrist Cuff, but only 1 strap, with anchors on both bodies. So, the magnet is used when, you take the strap off 1 camera and wrap it around your wrist. Now, you can rustle in your bag for the second camera or filters etc without the strap catching on anything. I hope this information allows the rest of mankind to sleep well tonight😂😂😂. Thanks for your videos.

I love MFT...I owned four thirds then MFT when it first came out...along side Full frame and dx bodies (nikon and Canon)...Both Panasonic and OM decided that we (the user) did not really need "range finder" style...I really loved the GX9 but Panasonic no longer makes it...or even any replacement...OM decided to put out an EP7 (originally designed by Olympus I am sure...) but anyway I am back to Sony for the time being...( a pair of A7c bodies with an even older A7s). I just love small...Both a7c and GX9 are similar in dimensions...Sony has some very compact lenses as well and the batteries (per charge) last more than twice the GX9 batteries. (of course the used price is about twice the GX9) cheers

I also feel like these people are always comparing the most extreme most expensive edge cases in a way that is not favorable to mft. It’s a very affordable system with really good hybrid specs. To get the same in full frame at the same price you have to deal with rolling shutter, bad glass, very high f stops.

Man, the photography community is mostly made up of a lot of Parrots. The amount of times I've heard "this guy doesn't like it because", is hilarious. I am sure a lot of the people commenting like this are people without any hands on experience with whatever it is as well. The Sony community are the biggest brand defenders on the planet. 😂 Great video, Todd!
