I have something a bit different to upload today, a song called 'The Gathering of the Birds' by my friend Frank Hazel, which I recorded the bass for.
I made contact with Francesco (a guitarist and songwriter who goes by Frank Hazel in his musical endeavors) a few years ago over a mutual love of progressive rock - in particular Rush of course - and we have done various musical bits and bobs together since. I always enjoy writing bass parts for other peoples music (prog stuff most of all!), and it's especially fun if the writer appreciates the work of guys like Geddy Lee and Chris Squire who wrote more expressive and fluid bass lines. I need a bit of freedom to play busier stuff, or I just don't think I come up with anything good!
This one was a pretty much completed track that Francesco sent me and asked if I wanted to record a bass part for it, which I agreed to do and spent a couple of months playing around with it until I had something I was happy with. Hopefully I was able to add something of value to the song!
I am always open to writing basslines for stuff, so if anyone is ever looking for a bass player and like the way I approach my playing, feel free to get in touch with me.
