I was ~5-10 min from dying from hypotherapy. I
In Jamaica, my x would not lean into the waves and flipped our kayak 3 times, I climbed in & pulled him in all three times, thank God the tour guide finally got him a separate kayak.
I have the k-1 angler pro mounted to a versa rudder. It’s super hard to lift the motor since the rope is so low. Has anyone built anything to make it higher? So you have more leverage?
Not that I know of but I could see that being an issue for sure.
@@roadtripangler yeah it’s hard to get leverage. I’ll figure it out lol.
That's not a kayak, that's just marketing BS! Once you hang a motor off it and you are using that as your primary means of propulsion what you are really in is an undersized thermoplastic mini boat being marketed as a kayak. That's reality and there is nothing wrong with that, but you are kidding yourself if you think this is kayak fishing because some marketer sold you on that silly notion. You bought a tiny thermoplastic mini boat, definitely NOT a kayak! LOL
Looks like a Kayak to me
Well technically, by definition, no sit on top “kayak” is a kayak. So I guess that really leaves it open to interpretation, but not sure how it being a kayak or a small boat would make it sell better one way or the other as far as marketing goes.
Looks amazing. Just too wide to use paddles kayak style?
I do feel that would be a bit hard even with the longest of kayak style paddles. the stand up paddle works well though!
YUP!! I put braid to leader on EVERYTHING 👍🏻😎
Only way to go!
I grew up fishing float tubes w/mono. That was dumb and would have landed more fish with braid. But I switched 30yrs ago and now use braid to fluoro leader for lakes.
Yea once I made the switch I never looked back!
I always use 30lb braid but what would you recommend lb wise for a steel leader? Ive been losing some huge pike just biting through my braid I recommend to everyone to use braid.
I honestly don’t have a lot of experience with steel leader. I have increased my fluorocarbon leader up to 80lb when fishing for toothy critters but that may not be enough. I know there are some steel leaders that can be tied like regular line too, but I don’t know the brands.
@@roadtripangler thank you keep up the good content
Awesome vid. Thank you so much. Just a great and thorough overview of something I’ve been researching and considering. 💪🏼
Thanks! You are very welcome too!
Very nice combo.
Thanks!
As always - Great Video and very helpful content. How would you say this boat compares to the Jackson Take Two, in terms of stability and performance? I currently have the Take Two and fish it solo, but that thing is HEAVY and I'm thinking of swapping it our for a Pursuit since on paper, it looks to be about 30 - 40 pounds lighter (when fully rigged). I'm mostly a paddler, so I just would be curious about your opinion of the comparison between the 2 boats from a paddling and performance standpoint. Thanks in advance
Hey! I find it to be close but not as stable as the take two. Still plenty stable though. It is faster and a lot lighter! I really love how open it is and the seat is great! If you need the random boat it is hard to beat the take two but I like the Nucanoe as a solo rig better. Hope that helps!
Can’t wait for the roller bearing pedal steering to come out. Great thorough video. My pwr129 gets here on the 15th. Can’t wait. Got mine on sale for 15% off.
I am interested in that steering as well! Thanks for watching. I think you will like the boat!
@@roadtripangler I’m excited. Got lucky found an xi3 salt for 1500 shipped brand new. It’s just sitting waiting on the PWR lol.
That was a deal! The salt is the way to go!
@@roadtripangler man. So update. No pwr129 yet because of the hurricane. Supposed to be here next week.
@@TexasPapa13waiting on mine as well ordered back in August
can you show how you tiedown the blackpack
Hey! If you can shoot me an email I can send you some photos! I basically just used the bungees that are on the stern already and placed the corner hooks that come with the blackpack close to the top so I could bungee over them. Super easy and quick
The fishing is one of the main reasons im moving to freeport!! Awesome video! 🔥
Nice!! Thank you!
@@roadtripangler is there tons of different fishing options there? Which ones would you recommend?
For sure. Lots of water to explore. I was only in town for the episode, but my strongest recommendation is to hire a guide a couple times if you can. Be upfront and tell them you are looking to learn and they will share so much knowledge. Otherwise just get out there. Time on the water watching for birds, seeing the current and bait, and finding ponds that flood during hightide and get supper skinny during low will usually lead to fish.
@@roadtripangler I appreciate the reply! Thanks for the advice man, I will be sure to put it into practice!
Niiiiice!!! Thanks a ton!!
You are very welcome!
How much weight can it hold. I'm 6ft and 300 lbs seen this on the website rated for 300lbs. Seen some not skinny people on this with a cooler full of ice and drinks, 2 poles, small tackle bag and a hand net.
I don’t know what the “real” capacity is, but 300lbs in no problem. I have had over 400lbs and felt plenty safe.
@@roadtripangler Thx for answering my question. Wanted to know before actually spending the money.
For sure!
Nice comparison video! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!!
Cool little “short” vid. Thinking about one…thanks for sharing
Thanks!
Great video got a question. I watched a few of your inflatable kayak series and just purchased a NRS Kuda. When it’s inflated, it’s a bit crooked. I’ve deflated it and inflated it several times. Have you noticed that with yours?
Hey! Thanks. I have not noticed it. Are talking about from front to back or from the side? I can look at mine a bit more close but have not noticed anything like that.
@@roadtripangler yeah it’s from front to back the very rear of it. The right side is almost an inch higher than the left side. I don’t know if it’s because of the way it was packed in the box. Just trying to figure out if it’s a common thing.
Yea that is a new one to me, but could totally be the way it was packed. NRS might could share some more if they have seen this before if you reach out to CS.
Any info as to why NRS discontinued this model? I contacted customer service and they did not know.
I don’t really know but they have done that before when they plan to launch a new model or update it. I did hear that they are not planning to for a bit though. My best guess is they got over stocked during Covid and it took them a while to move that inventory and now that it is gone they are reassessing their lineup. I hate it though because I feel like it is such a great platform and I don’t know if anything currently as light as it is.
What brand and size is the seat cushion you use with the Kuda seat?
It is from a company called Kayak Kushion and I think they only have one size.
Hi mate. Great review. I'm looking at the possibility of bringing one of these to Australia. I mainly fish the Swan River in Western Australia and a lot of the river has a 5 knot limit and is mostly sheltered water. The lower reaches are a bit more like inshore sea fishing, but this unit looks like it could be a good option. Big question for me is how do you think it will handle the UV light over time? The sun here in Western Australia is brutal. Thanks again for posting the great review.
Mine lives outside in the sun. I am working to get a shed to keep it covered but I have seen no issues so far. I think if you keep it covered when not in use and treat it with some 303 occasionally and think you will be fine for many years!
How would this hold up against flooded stumps and sharp branches, while moving? Want an inflatable so bad, but i dont wanna go swimming, in my local flooded cedar forest. Fletchers Floodwaters is notorious for ripping prop shear pins daily.
I think it would depend on how fast you are going and how sharp the stick is. The only issue I have ever had with any inflatable is tinny sharp fish fins. I have never even had a hook puncture one or any thing in the water. I honestly would have no reservations about using it in the type of water you described.
It's like a new episode of Redding's on the Road.
lol. Yea now it is Reddings on the River
I think they're on the right track, now they just need to offer something more robust.
It would be cool to see a larger version!
Will this make the truck slower
I can tell that it has the weight on it but the truck still has plenty of power. You just notice it at the pump more
I see that you installed a Power-Pole Micro, could you give me some info on how you did that, Thanks.
Hey! I used the Scotty base that was there and basically bolted and piece of starboard to it that I had pre cut to fit the micro adaptor. So I bolted the starboard to the base and bolted the power pole bracket to the starboard if that makes since. I believe the starboard was 3/8 thick. I had it laying around from another project. It could have been 1/2 thick. Hopefully that helps. I tend to use what I have lying around lol.
@@roadtripangler Thanks!!!
Anytime
great detailed review: the feedback on use of a motor to go upstream is really relevant to my fishing......going to check out torqueedo motors. thanks guys.
Thanks!! There are several electric options but I have had really good luck with Torqeedo and I really like all the data I get with their display.
@@roadtripangler one last thing: did the anchor interfere with the motor on back? whats that shaft length.
The Torqeedo had a 20” shaft. I have had many issues with the anchor interfering unless I anchor at the motor down. It occasionally with get around the shaft if I don’t raise the motor when I let the line out. That has only happened a few times and it was in stronger current.
Nk180pro is way way better 😂had that wasn’t as great
I have not had the chance to try it out yet.
I’m old and not flexible. If I can’t touch the floor, I’m just swimming however far it takes to get to the shore sadly. I probably shouldn’t kayak but… I love being on the water!
I think that is why it is important to have a “just in case” plan. Like paddling with others or staying closer to shore if you can’t self rescue. These things can keep you safe and enjoying what you love at the same time!!
@@roadtripangler absolutely! Because you can’t live your life in fear and never get to enjoy the fun things like this. Can’t let age win just because age robs you of some physical health! I love the acceptance and suggested ways to still have a great time! Awesome reply.
Could not agree more! Thank you!
22mph lol that can get you in some fun sh*t
For sure! Lol
Good vid, man! I have considered this motor for my Kuda 126, but I think the price point is fairly high, to be honest. I already have a Newport Vessels 55lbs thrust kayak trolling motor as well with a DIY 100ah lithium battery box that only weighs about 14lbs. The issue is that I can't find any trolling motor mount options for the Kuda. Are you aware of any? I prefer a stern mount over a side mount... and I already have a jointed swivel extended tiller handle.
Thanks. I don’t know of any, but I think if you glued a couple of Yakattack Switch Pad bases on the back you could get creative. That is how my buddy Jeff Little did his Torqeedo mount.
I guess it doesnt have spotlock.. also doesnt have variable speed (just speed steps).. to be able to fish id rather have a tiller with variable speed. (to be able to counter the wind). Also the third negative is the battery.. lifepo4 has become dirt cheap in the last 5 years.. i can make a 120ah 12v lithium battery for about 170 bucks.. that would offset the cost of a motor.. (also 120amp on 12v is like 2 times the battery the bixpy comes with). Could also make a 120amp 25v battery for about 300 bucks.. that would be about 4 times the battery the bixpy has.. (but instead they chare 4 times more for a quarter of the performance.. thats abit much for me). (same capacity would be about 120-150 bucks to make urself). My 400 dollar trolling motor has about 700 watt usage.. also pushes my boat a bit faster then 4mph.. in a 1236 loaded with 3 people and a dog.. A little kayak would go faster offc.. my range is also more then double.. also cost less then half.. THis might be decent for people who are not fishing. Any fisherman would rather save the 800 bucks on the motor and put that towards a sonar screen.. then ur just short another 1500 for the ducer..
Its a really nice system. I installed one on a tupalo LT for a friend she really loves it. However, on a light narrow kayak it actually doesn't go slow enough to just keep the kayak still in wind and current for photography. Wush there was a way to change the speed variable settings. It does eat narrow grass to the point it will stop and beep at you. Overall great product. Nice review Jameson!
Thanks!! I was pleasantly surprised at what it was capable of!
I would love to see a river trip on the inflatable with the Bixpy
I hope to try it out like that very soon!!
Awesome intro video 👍🏼
Thanks!!
Which E-pump are you using, I can not find the correct adaptor for the Leafield d7 valve
I have a couple but this is my favorite and it is the fastest. www.nrs.com/bravo-high-pressure-12-volt-pump/p35c
Huge dude! mob
Thanks!
River tax... yeah, but i mean, the reason we buy all that stuff is to try and have a day like that, isn't it?
This is true! It was an epic day. I still want my rod back though lol.
This is very clever I’m going to make that strap part of my kit
Good to hear!
I’ve had a trolling motor on my kayak since 2014. I do lot of river fishing. I recently came to the conclusion that the motor setup is better for lakes and wider rivers without too many rapids and hair pin turns. For shallower, rocky rivers I bought a second kayak. Bare bones, lighter, shallower. No heavy motors, mounts, batteries. Just my own personal preference. Everyone has their own style.
For sure and every boat has a place! I have my inflatable kayak set up just that way for that reason. Light throw and go! Some of the bigger rivers I fish allow for the motor which helps me head up stream against the current…till I have to drag lol.
This was a great walk through buddy 🤜🏼🤛🏼! Let’s go fishing
Thanks and I am in!
Seeing the molds in the video was really cool. I used to work for Avantec (Lakeland Mold) and i did get to build a mold for Jackson kayak roughly 6 years ago. Don’t remember what model it was. Plan on buying a Jackson coosa x next spring. Can’t wait.
That is pretty cool! The X is a sweet boat!
Wait, is it Betty? I thought it was pronounced Baitey.
I am confused…it is Beatty.
@@roadtripangler Sounds like you say Betty. lol
Very nice review. The world of high quality inflatable watercraft has really expanded in the last decade. The NRS looks like a great boat with a solid and experienced name behind it. Someone else mentioned Stealthcraft and I have looked them over and found them to be very solid as well. I own 2 Flycrafts: the original Stealth and the 14' Guide Boat. Bombproof is an exaggeration, but not by much. They don't need near as much babying as you might think. It takes ALOT to puncture one. Their lighter weight and greater rocker gives them the nod if maneuverability, particularly in whitewater or small channels, is a concern. But performance satisfaction depends on matching the boat with the application. Everyone's needs are a little different and will likely change over time. There is no perfect boat, but we can all enjoy a lifetime of looking for it...!
Thanks you! For sure there are tons of great options. It can become a bit overwhelming narrowing down the best one for each angler based on what and where they are fishing. I think in general people do not realize the abuse these boats can handle!
OG crew right there! Good to see you guys back on the water together! Great episode brother! 😁👍👍
Thanks you! It was much needed!!
You're good at describing. Watched your whole video. Covered every aspect.
Thank you! I know it was a long video but there was a ton to cover!
The dream team
It was awesome to get back at it with him! We don’t get on the water together as much as we need to!
I enjoy watching the coastal fishing. Being from SE Texas, it’s what we do here a lot. It’s hard to beat catching tailing Reds.
I love red fishing! The instant feed back you get watching a fish react, or not, to a bait is so satisfying. When I see that push, tail, or back out of the water I lose all since of accuracy and calmness lol
This is something all paddlers need to practice at least yearly.
Completely agree!!
