    Is it beneficial to turn on your open to work function and leave it viewable only to recruiters if you're just passively looking for a new role? Or is it better to leave it off and only send out applications to jobs you're really interested in? I know it's best to not add the open to work frame around your photo as it makes you look desperate.

    Hello Sir, It's a great insight. Also, how a recruiter scans your resume was great helpful information. I'd like to know about the general recruiting process, please correct me if I am wrong, So, first when you apply for a job your resume goes to a ATS and then it is selected and reviewed by a person and then further short listing and interview calls happen? Am I right? Thanks.

    • @BBenoist
      @BBenoist 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You are correct if an ATS is used in the hiring practice. The larger the company, the more common an ATS will be used. I have other videos on my channel that discuss how to locate recruiters, hiring managers and HR people at companies thereby allowing for the opportunity to bypass the ATS

    Hello Bill, your video covers the situation where you do not know the range of salary. If the range is provided, can you always ask for the top of the range and expect the company representative to negotiate down the salary or do you use your last salary as a reference and ask for a little more than your last salary, provided your last salary was within the range?

    • @BBenoist
      @BBenoist 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Great question. First and foremost, never try to negotiate a salary until the offer is made. Once you have a job offer with respective salary offer, then you negotiate. Based upon the offer, that is where you will start your negotiation. Most companies will offer more than what you were making previously. However, there is still room for negotiation. From my experience, you should be able to negotiate between 10% to 20% more. 10% usually does not bat an eye. 20% may be more challenging.

    Really appreciate the emphasis in this video on people's ability to develop new skills and noting example learning resources available (e.g., LinkedIn Learning, Skillshare, Udemy). You raised a pertinent point about actually showing employers you are a "lifelong learner" for example, by your actions versus simply noting this term on your resume.

    Unfortunetly, ageism is pervasive in most industries, specially in IT/Tech. In the private sector, it has been the norm for many decades. In the public sector, it's not an issue. If you're 40 and over, you're considered "old" in the private sector, and you will never be told you didn't get hired based on this bias!

    • @BBenoist
      @BBenoist หลายเดือนก่อน

      I worked over 25 years in IT before walking away and starting my coaching practice. Yes, I agree there is ageism in tech, but not in all of them. For example, Google has an average age of 28. The chances of you or I getting hired are probably slim - but I have had clients over 40 get hired there. The more mature companies like Intel or HP or IBM are a little more open to opportunities.

  • @MannyLoxx2010
    @MannyLoxx2010 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I've been doin contract work in IT and Tech, Since 2020!! It has it's pros and cons but it's better than being unemployed and getting shitty state unemployment benefits! Full-time, permanent would be ideal but contracting can be great if you know how to grind and hustle, and get many contracts without having to be unemployed for weeks or months, at a time! The longest I go without work is 2 or 3 months, since I've been contracting! Before this, I had 20+ years of experience in different areas and industries! I've been in IT/Tech for over 8 years, btw!

    • @BBenoist
