I am freezing in Sydney right now. We usually get the very cold weather at the end of July and early August. It's 3 degrees here atm. I prefer the heat. I would readily swap 39 for 3 degerees.

A small tip to drink a better frappe, is to use fresh milk and not from a can, it makes a big difference. I wish the whole family a happy holiday!

June you must always persevere in greece because its both humid and hot, and many times combined with african dust. jully and especialy august is better because its dryer and august has some nice north calm wind!

The hottest place in Rhodes is Lindos. Also, there is no such country as Greece..

Frappe used to be very common 15-20 years ago. Now its almost obsolete, its place has been taken by Freddo Espresso (Iced espresso). Have a nice summer, the heat can be insufferable at times. Greetings from Crete.

It is very nice in Rhodes at this time of year. I'm curious how you would react to 40 degrees in Athens at such a time. But then again, it's summer and it will be hot. You are not in the Sahara desert, but in Greece, there is no need for so much drama. If someone wants a summer at 25 degrees Celsius, let them take a holiday in Russia for example

My grandmother used to put the sheets in the refrigerator, and at bedtime, she would give them to us. It was so nice that we could sleep comfortably until one or two o'clock in the morning when the temperature started to drop a bit

Guys, don’t make your life difficult. Taxes: Find an accountant and tell them to fix it at 20%. They know how to do it by deducting expenses, etc. Social Security: With 200-300€ per month for 3 people, you can get private insurance to access a state-of-the-art private hospital. If you don’t want general insurance, the prices are as follows: a general check-up at private hospitals costs a maximum of 50€, and a visit to a private doctor costs 20-30€. That’s it. Legal Documents in Greece: When you come to Greece and need to handle all your paperwork, hire a lawyer. Give them 100€ and all the documents from your country, and in 3 days you’ll be done. House Cleaning: You don’t need to lift a finger. Call the local cleaning lady, pay her 30-50€, and your house will be like new. Don’t kill yourself for nothing. Enjoy your life and relax.

Thanks for the info! I have lived in Thessalonica for 6 years, helping my daughter care for grandchildren. I wish you had posted this 7 years ago. My daughter, who is married to a Greek, helped me with all the bureaucracy, which was awful. I have Austrian and US citizenship, plus pensions from both countries, so living here, or having a right to live here from the legal aspect, was totally legitimate. i should not have had to face all the difficulties I experienced. The teller at the first bank I went to in 2017 said that I had to pay $10,000 to open a bank account (Alpha Bank)!! Unbelievable, especially since in the US one can open a bank account for merely $50 or even $1. He also told me that I had to pay taxes, although I already pay taxes on an Austrian and an American pension and I do not work here . There are international treaties concerning this, so what he said was untrue. Most of the time when we went to any office, the people were disinterested or even downright rude, although hundreds of thousands of Greeks have settled in Western European countries and the US in the past, also in recent years, and have been welcomed there. The post office service was a different matter--totally inefficient and miserable. Packages which were sent to me, even registered, were never found. I had to have a terrible fight with the head of the postal service in Thessalonica in order to get my mail put into my mail box!! The postman throws the mail on the floor, or even outside of the house anywhere. Smaller notices of packages being sent to me were blown away in the wind. Even important bank statements were left on the ground and could easily have been stolen! Small Christmas gifts that were sent to me were horrifically taxed, especially at Christmas. Just two days ago I went to my landlord's bank with cash to pay the rent and they refused. (Piraeus Bank). Then I went to my bank (NBG), and they told me they couldn't do a cash transfer, only online. When I tried to deposit the cash into my NBG account they told me I couldn't deposit, which was a lie! I went to the manager and fought with her. Suddenly she showed me a teller next to her office who took the deposit, which was another lie! I have been spat upon on the street for no reason. The houses I have lived in have been graffitied because a foreigner was living there. There are many more stories to tell, but it would take a book to write about them---refusal of service at restaurants, overcharging on wares, under changing, paying my neighbor's electric bill, which was added onto mine. Living on an island somewhere may be idyllic, but this city is not the place for me! Nor is Greece in general. Besides that, they do not tolerate any other faiths, even if they are Christian.
