    You mentioned that air pockets are bad to float at 6:18 but if you don’t use air pockets how is the ship supposed to float?

    • @cephy8102
      @cephy8102 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most large ships use active stabilization and/or hydrofoils to float in this game. Also, some materials like Alloy float by themselves.

    I put the Ragnarök up against my battleship, and it turns out the Ragnarök is *EXTREMELY* weak to plasma damage. My single 700k plasma cannon dealt more overall damage to the Ragnarök than most of my other weapons combined, and with settings turned to where the plasma would fly at 2.5k M/S and keeping at extreme range, was able to destroy the Ragnarök without suffering much damage at all. I'm not sure if there will be a 3.0 version, but I wonder how you'd try and mitigate plasma damage.

    Even in it's time Ragnarok was quite obviously bad. It's essentially a newbie's ship, as Robbaz was literal newbie while recording that. It's just made so big it actually worked ^^ And that made the series so fun to watch even for someone familiar with the game. That and all the goofiness.

    Those extra 4 m/s of speed just from hull shaping make a huge difference in moving on the campaign map, allowing you to get places faster and for less consumption. Those not seeing the logistic advantage clearly don't play the campaign enough to appreciate it.

    I've been working on a larg-ish design and this is very helpful information in deciding what type of steam engine to go with. That hybrid steam setup was very inspirational, in the right design it could be positioned such that by the time it is reached most of everything else is already ruined and the lack of redundancy is no longer a problem.

    Having a different function for each possible orientation you want is a bit wasteful... Can have a single function that accepts angle as a second argument, applies it as is to the first two, then applies it's negative to the other two. Edit: after trying it out for myself, I found out that using custom axis as input instead of complex controller stimulus can work better, as you can have a different one for each prop, and you can also control the power level, which makes a hovering behavior possible.

    Sorry to burst your illusions, but I promise you that you *never* knew anything about fuel engines. A well-built supercharger fuel engine can easily get over 800ppm *if* you use LOTS of radiators to cool the cylinders, and keep the RPM to around 0.3. Meanwhile, the whole amazing thing about inline turbos was that you could, at the extreme, make free energy in that the amount of materials used was so low that the game engine treated it as zero per time-tick. You'll certainly get over 900, and with just a bit of know-how be able to get *significantly* over 900ppm. Back before the introduction of steam engines there were absolutely dozens of the super-efficient engines in the workshop that were over 1,000ppm. However, that super-efficiency of turbos is only at high load, so you have to have multiple engines, each one turning on and off so that each is always running under full load. At low RPM the super efficiency of turbos is lost. Since the introduction of steam engines and custom jets it simply got easier to make 'good enough' engines with steam and jets that couldn't rival the efficiency in materials, but were much, much easier to build, and much more efficient in ppv. Basically, people decided that they could get close enough with easy builds and no complex spaghetti exhaust-turbo systems for most needs, and if they really, really needed to save materials they just use RTGs. As a result, the more complex, higher skill of super-efficient engines was largely a lost art. Mentioning RTGs, you kinda got that wrong too. You had one 3x3x3 RTG to feed one 3x3x3 battery block, and that won't work without all the other engines you had on the platform filling the battery. You need roughly 5 times the volume of RTGs to battery volume to keep the battery topped up at the rate that one electric engine attached to those batteries would burn the energy. Thus, your volume calculations were way, way off. RTGs take a *ton* of space/volume if you need to generate, say 40,000 energy per minute to power a full set of shields.

    I know this is super late, but I'd like to point out that the Ragnarok used to sit so low in the water, it almost seemed ready to flood in still water. Retrofitting the armor may not have had as much of an effect at first because you were used to working on it, but seeing it before/after through bingewatching the series, you really can tell how massive an improvement you have made to the ship.

    What's funny about the alloy slab layout is that I believe that, before HA was introduced into the game, Robbaz had this behemoth armored with a really thick layer of alloy with a metal shell. So... If Im remembering correctly, you're essentially giving it its old armor back. I could be wrong, but thats what Im remembering. Need to go watch his FtD vids again...

    I know this is 8 months old, but: I went on a little bit of an APHE shell design research spree a couple years back and discovered that my approach of slapping an AP head on a bunch of HE WH with a pendepth fuse was pretty dogshit. Of course, at this caliber and rail draw, the inefficiency of your APHE shell design literally could not matter less because holy KD batman, but for smaller guns it really helps to do a mix of solid body with your HE, or stabilizer fins like I prefer. I have a 500 mm shell that has almost the exact same penetration as yours for less than half the rail draw, of course at a sacrifice of HE damage, just by doing a roughly half and half mix between stabilizer and HE. Also consider that while your shell can punch through 10 m of metal, it can only get through 2 m of HA, which most big enemies are coated in. You might see a little benefit against the targets these guns are really meant for by adding in a little bit of solid WH.

    @justgoodvibes1500 ปีที่แล้ว

    Unfortunately brenzo, 8:13 that engine is not an inline turbo engine. In-line engines are CRAZY efficient. If you make a modest turbo engine and feed the exhaust into the inline engine, it gets max turbo boost at ANY rpm (if the turbo engine gives enough exhaust). Meaning you can, in theory, have one low power efficient engine and another High power efficient engine even at low rpm. I need to do some testing on it but I will put numbers here if I feel like it.

    These videos are hugely helping how i make boats in FTD. I only ever bothered with jets and planes because making a ship that isn't dogwater is really complicated. Right now I'm right through making a very well designed corvette (albeit with cruiser armour and a pricetag to match) and this time rather than having a peashooter turret, I've finally managed to tetris myself a 450rpm DWG-shredding autocannon. Thank you!

      Should be pretty easy. When in neutral, check it's height: if it's above, say, 10, it's flying, so don't turn off the rotors completely. Just need to figure out how to get them to spin just fast enough to keep your height stable.

    If you are still wondering what the sonar thinging on the bow is called it is called a bulbous bow. In real life it is there to create a wave that cancels out the wave create by the bow itself. I think navies find that it is also a convenient place to put sonar or something.

      There was a guy on the forums who used to constantly outdo himself with crazier and crazier turrets. First it was a 12 barrel 2m CRAM cannon, then a twenty barrel 500mm APS; I think he eventually got up to fitting fifty 2m CRAMs in a single turret. He might have even been working on a one hundred barrel turret, but I don’t know if he was successful. He also took a helicopter the size of the Flying Squirrel off the workshop, and fitted a 2m CRAM gun to it.

    One thing to note about steam: each part (with a few exceptions) will result in a loss of energy, so the fewer parts the better, so having the max attachments to your cranks will maximize your efficiency.
