Advantage to setting the white balance on location would be that you can use a white sheet of paper at the time, and then you have that metadata for when you’re processing, rather than guessing what it is later. I agree it makes no difference to the raw if you set the wb at the time or in Lightroom.

Cam, if Scotland is 18,000 km away, then the return will take the same distance, similar for Utah - there is a return trip. So you will be flying over 60,000 km - probably further than your car will travel in a whole year!

Well done on the sheep dog trails, my mate does dog agility trials, would love to photograph them, Kodak advage cameras were great. OM has an em1miii astro came out in july.

It’s funny how internet experts love to claim you don’t need anything more modern than an original EM1 until they try photographing moving animals. That said I use the EOS R and its af is surprisingly good for its age if you can live without eye af.

If light/exposure isnt the most important why is the golden hour blue hour so important. To me exposure is part of the creative composition, while not landscape a couple of examples are the bullfighter photos of Ernst Hass or the street photography of Fan Ho.

Interesting discussions again. Regarding OM1menu settings- Tony Phillips (The complete guide to the OM System OM 1) has a great pdf book you can buy, with suggestions about settings and also a bonus excel menu guide with ideas.

Cam makes a very good argument for “light”. And totally agree on how powerful the histogram is as a tool.. it’s like a cheat code to improving quickly as a beginner, and a saviour with run and gun photography like weddings!.. BUT the poll was composition vs “exposure”, not “light”. I’d argue light vs exposure are 2 very different things.

I'm slightly guilty of not looking at histogram but I do have highlights turned on ...this helps also..shadows recoverable Highlights sometimes aren't

If Cam feels light is more important thing he'd not have to go to those same locations he likes because that light will also happen at home at some point - eg. the composition isn't that important for him. So the same light can occur at home but those amazing compositions won't appear there. However if you go get the composition then the light will come there at some point.

Enjoyed the show again this week, especially the part with Buddy and I watched the full version 😂. I’ve just brought an Olympus OM5, I’ll still keep my Pentax K70 though. I’ve found the manual and TH-cam very helpful when I’m trying to learn new settings etc., can’t wait to try out the ND filters and hopefully take some awesome photos.

Yes, I have watched all episodes - first watched one about episode 20.Caught up on the back catalogue soon afterwards. Looking forward to attending BFOP for the first time - watched 2 years of the on-line version. Problem with BFOP 2024 will be choosing just a sessions to attend - so many choices.

Yes good quality framing makes a world of difference to your works presentation . I use to professionally frame all my work back in the days when my financial fortnight was triple what it is today on a $1200 pension but yes if you want the high prices for your work you must professionally frame . A man at previous Lions Club run Exhibition told me when I took my work in that my prices were way below the value of the images and I said no I'm comfortable with those prices because they were only in $100 spotlight frames . Next year I will be more prepared and do it properly professionally.

Listened to many episodes on a road trip last year and have since watched and/or listened to every episode. If I am in the car I go onto TH-cam later to check out the images. Love your chats and rants 😂
