Train Your Dog to Wear a Head Halter - Step by Step Guide!
Train Your Dog to Wear a Head Halter - Step-by-Step Guide!
Welcome to our latest video where we'll guide you through the process of training your dog to wear a head halter (also known as a Gentle Leader) with confidence and comfort. Whether you're dealing with leash pulling or just want more safety and control during your walks, a head halter training tool can be a game-changer for both you and your furry friend.
In this comprehensive tutorial, we break down the training process to teach your dog how to wear a head halter comfortably into simple, actionable steps. From introducing the head halter to reinforcing movement in the head halter, we've got you covered. You'll learn how to build a positive association with the halter, making the training experience enjoyable for your dog.
Note: A head halter tool is not a replacement for teaching your dog good leash skills, and should be used with caution and intention to make sure that your dog is physically safe and comfortable during its use. See our related videos below for more Loose Leash Walking suggestions, including ideas on how to condition a harness as an alternative loose leash walking tool.

    helpful! are you marking the looking at the object or the reorientation? and is there a different between "look at that" and "show me"? Thanks!

    • @Summitdogtraining
      @Summitdogtraining 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question! At first, I generally mark looking at the object, and then reward when the dog reorients - or if the dog can’t reorient, I will deliver the treat to their nose facing the object. With time and consistency with this, the looking at the object behavior is quickly followed by the reorientation back towards me, and at that point (after the dog understands that this is the game and can do it with the object that we are working around) I will wait to mark until I get the reorientation. No difference in those two concepts really! “Show me” is just the verbal cue that I use for our Look at Things procedure (look towards the thing and then back towards me). I have a video of adding this cue, here’s a link to that: th-cam.com/video/iPuMuMix5MA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=28v0SuqesnOZPMWb

    Hi there, thank you a lot for your content. I have a question. I set up my hours in the availability tab but I was wondering if I can somehow lock in a lunch break of 30 minutes? As of now my appointments have a 10 minutes space between each other (which is exactly what I want to) but would be good if I could alter to have a longer break (e.g. 30 minutes) around 12pm noon. Thank you!

    • @Summitdogtraining
      @Summitdogtraining 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe you could accomplish this with a recurring "Block" on your calendar at that time every day. Note that this would affect someone's availability to schedule appointments over that time, and if you already have a 10 minute gap after each appointment, you may want to set it up as a 20 minute block. So if your appointments are 60 minutes in length with a 10 minute block after (70 minutes total), and you have a 20 minute block at 12:10-12:30 every day, the last appointment in the AM would be allowed to schedule at 11:00am. If you had the block scheduled to start at 12:00, the last appointment would be allowed to schedule at 10:50. Does that make sense?

    I have a Candle Bar, we operate on a schedule. I’ve been looking for a scheduling app that allows my clients to pick the size of jar they want. Meaning a variation. So they’ll have different prices. I have a question. What if you offer two different services at a the same time. Do you manually delete the service that didnt get scheduled

    • @Summitdogtraining
      @Summitdogtraining ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it would depend on whether you were booking this as a private lesson or group class. The easiest way might be to set up individual appointment types and just label them with the different types of candle sizes, and then adjust the settings for allowing multiple appointments to be booked at the same time if it was a group class situation.

    I seen an acuity intake form that calculates orders years ago (not sure who’s it was). You input the quantity and it multiplied it by the cost. When you hit Pay Now, the total was correct. Do you know how to do that??

    • @Summitdogtraining
      @Summitdogtraining ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Neva - what you are describing sounds like making a new Acuity "Order" - where you choose a product (this would be from the packages & products section in Acuity) and can set quantity, and it calculates the total. This isn't an intake form, but this is how we handle our retail products and package purchases through Acuity. You can find this option by clicking the "Add New" button at the top right of the acuity home / calendar page, and then selecting "Order" from the drop-down. I hope this helps!

    How do you deal with things like clients needing to switch to a different class? So for example, they registered for puppy class on Fridays at 6 pm but need to switch to the Saturdays at 2 pm class. I love Acuity for private lessons but I haven't found a good way to make it work for group classes.

    • @Summitdogtraining
      @Summitdogtraining ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, unfortunately there isn't an easy switch for this. Our method is to cancel the student from one class and enroll them into the second class time, and then apply their payment from the first class to the second class in our linked accounting software. Not a perfect system but that's our work-around.

  • @rachaelscharfenberg894

    so what behavior was the training attempting to shape; the looking out and away, or pulling the pups attention back for eye contact?

    • @Summitdogtraining
      @Summitdogtraining ปีที่แล้ว

      In this video, the target behavior was the looking out and away, just as a way to demonstrate Shaping as a concept. But you can see that there is a behavior chain being built here, where the dog looks away, and then when he hears the marker, he turns back to reconnect with the trainer to collect his treat. So you are correct that both behaviors are happening here!

    We have a foster fails that is teaching me about small breeds (50% shihtzu, 30% chi, 10% minipoodle). My first lesson was leave the feet on the floor. She doesn't run away from reaching nearly a such now. But the petting thing definitely seems more like she is tolerating more than enjoying it, unless it is belly rubs. Is that a small breed difference? (Her two litter mates are in the family and seem to also be tolerant rather than enjoying petting)

    I have a question. Any tips on not having the flirt pole play ruin your yard?

    • @Summitdogtraining
      @Summitdogtraining 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! I would mix up the play area, as well as the direction of play, so that you aren't always playing the same location or having your dog run & move with the same circular pattern. Personally, I do a lot of my flirt pole play at parks & other fields/open spaces to mix it up and practice my dog's skills in new areas.
