Chossy Schlabz (Chossy's Slabs) 2024 | Alice Lakes Squamish, BC
First time down Chossy Schlabz and first ride aboard the all new Trek Slash. I'd never ridden this trail so I took my time and looked at a few slabs. Walk through it with me and tell me what you think. Would you ride this trail? On a demo bike you'd never ridden? New bike, new trail what could go wrong?

2024 Trek Slash Gen 6 1st Ride Review

Trek completely revamped the Slash. The all new Slash is high pivot and has mixed wheels. Not only that but the geometry is completely new and what's up with that chain guide thing? I had the last generation Slash and many generations before this is a whole new beast. But how does it compare and should you get one? How does the high pivot feel vs the SC VPP platform?

    • @NICADV
      @NICADV 10 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      I'll start with how they are similar which is under heavy braking they both do a great job staying active and offering good control. Where they differ is at the medium and high pace. At a medium pace, the Nomad offers a bit more mid stroke support and immediate pop. Not far off the Slash, but a bit more fun pushing through berms and pumping in and out of pockets. The high pivot on the Slash comes most alive on the fast and chunky trails when you're getting past the mid stroke and into the end of the travel. It maintains speed and feels like you're skipping over the trail. It has a more similar feel at those higher speeds to the new Rocky Altitude. Less lively but more calm and composed.

    How would you compare this to the ibis ripley af?

    • @NICADV
      @NICADV วันที่ผ่านมา

      Both bikes have the same head angle but that's about where things end. The body position on the Ripley feels more like a traditional xc bike. The Tempo with its taller head tube, steeper seattube and longer rear center allow for a bit more performance on technical descents and climbs. The super low top tube is also great for moving around on the bike. Commencal's suspension is more active and ground hugging while the DW of the Ripley offers a firmer platform when hammering on the pedals. They are both great trail bikes but it's going to depend on your terrain and style.

    Can you give more of comparison to the new altitude?

    • @NICADV
      @NICADV 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I will start with the easy stuff. The Altitude is arguably a "better" value the comparable build is $500 less and has better tires, including CushCore touch points and quite a bit lighter. In the Slash's corner you do get the Vivid Select + with adjustable HBO. On the ride side of things I wouldn't say either have better traction on the descents and the back end of the Altitude gets out of the way just as well as the high pivot. As far as mixed wheels the Slash feels more designed around the mixed wheels. Climbing, the Slash is the more efficient climber but both have a great body position and the Altitude is quieter. Finally the head angle adjustment and reach adjustment is easier to use on the Altitude but the flip chip for the mullet setup is very hard to access. I don't think either bike is clear winner, but they are both great. They have a few other quirks but I think this response is already too long so if you have any specific questions feel free to reach out on Instagram.

    This bike is LIT! Tried for first time @ garda bike festival (ITALY), after a nice tech talks with the staff of Rocky, we hit an ultra bumpy and fast trail who's our test trails for all the bikes we tested. First thing i noticed, the bike is SUPER SILENT, no rattling no sounds nothing! It's also impressive how smooth and "pop" is the bike under fast trails, it's like a dh-mini-bike, but reactive as a trail bike. It also climb very good, but with cush-core inserts it's not its best, better stick to DD tires, with no inserts (personal opinions). Very important info, beside "sag" we diddn't add or remove compression/rebound on shock and fork, this bike is easy to set-up. I'd buy it asap! love RM!

    • @NICADV

    • @NICADV
      @NICADV 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I rode the Chainsaw set up "enduro" with 170mm front and rear and mixed wheels which is slightly different than they sell it "Enduro". Overall, I think the Nomad is a great park bike. The Devinci has a slight edge on the straight line and chunky stuff, other than that it also has a bit more flexibility as far as increasing the rear wheel travel. Both bikes love hitting jumps and the mixed wheel setup is very composed on steep rocks and loamers. The Nomad is a bit more well round outside the park as well.
