When it came to the concentration camps the Allies weren’t 100% sure what was happening. There were rumors that something was happening but they didn’t have a complete answer until they started coming across them.

Very little is said about the music. The brilliant juxtaposition of the opening with The Beatles singing I Want to Hold Your Hand in German set against the Nazi rallies with thousands of salutes going on, for me, set the tone of the film with its brilliant pairing. Then Tom Waits and finally David Bowie’s We Can Be Heroes, also in German, put a beautiful cap on the film.

I recommend Train de Vie: it has a bad final twist although not as bad as this ending, because at the end it remains open, but the whole film is fun (except the last minute) and is a treasure chest of wisdom

I must say I don't like this movie because it's not realistic the children were separated from the adults and from their parents reality was way worse than this movie shows and what the protagonist is doing was absolutely impossible to do in reality. I don't like when fiction is applied to historical facts especially when the historical fact is an immense tragedy and a barbaric act.

Just watching this as a secular white dude had me in tears at the inhumanity in the first scene. I can't imagine the emotions of someone who would have had family affected by this being able to watch it. You two have some serious courage and mental fortitude. Hats off to the both of you 👍

I recently saw a Q&A with two actors, 3 men from Easy (including Babe Heffron) and a Holocaust survivor. Babe said that the one thing they were told was to not interact with the men inside the camp. Only the medics and doctors that were brought in were allowed to interact with them, and they all wore surgical masks. To hear him talk about what they saw - the very little he said - was so impactful.

My grandfather arrived at a camp. He never talked much about the war. They didn't know anything really until they came across them. Senior officials in the US government obviously knew more via intelligence but that was not known to anyone except a few top people. Units that came across the camps didn't know anything until they started finding them.

“I piggybacked from a pizza dough freezer.” Is my favorite line in any television show, ever. It is the worst explanation, and makes me laugh every single time I hear it. 😂

I'm glad that, like many reactors, you didn't blame the father in the first scene. At the time the movie was released, I've heard often people blaming him, saying he was a coward. But in the end, in that scene, Landa made it clear that he knew, and that not telling him would mean the father and all of his daughters would die, and the people hidden would die anyway because he knew they were there. He had to choose between too terrible options and choose the least terrible. 1 family dying, instead of 2.

Grandfather was a WW2 vet never spoke of his experiences much but one day he did. We learned why he never spoke of it much that day. He helped liberate Mittlebau-Dora which was a sub camp of Buchenwald it had been mostly evacuated when they found it but there was still 1300 dead left behind.

My maternal grandfather left Germany in 1933. Came to Texas. All of our extended family in Germany died in the camps. Grandfather was instrumental in the establishment of the Holocaust Memorial.
