Pfc. Cobb's story was never properly told. Before he joined the Paratroopers he was already a veteran of the North African campaign. On his way back to The States his transport ship was sunk by a German U-boat. He survived the sinking and volunteered for the Paratroopers. He was wounded during the Normandy invasion, survived Operation Market Garden and the siege of Bastogne without a scratch. If I went through everything he went through I might be a prick too. This is my only gripe with Band of Brothers, they were so generous portraying some of the men and yet very cruel portraying others.
On Webster, "He had long ago made it a rule of his Army life never to do anything voluntarily. He was an intellectual, as much an observer and chronicler of the phenomenon of soldiering as a practitioner. He was almost the only original Toccoa man who never became an NCO. Various officers wanted to make him a squad leader, but he refused. He was there to do his duty, and he did it-he never let a buddy down in combat, in France, Holland, or Germany-but he never volunteered for anything and he spurned promotion".- S. Ambrose
Webster reminds me of my Grandpa. Promoted to Cpl three times, stretched out his hospital stay during the Bulge, tried to learn to drive a jeep in the field to get off the line (he failed), and would never ever talk about the fighting itself. He was there, he wanted to get it over with and get back alive.
@@numbersasaname2291How is that a spoiler? It’s literally in reference to the episode that they’re watching in this video. Try to think before you comment.
Thank you for taking a moment to appreciate Scott Grimes in his role as Malarkey. He didn’t “get his own episode”-and in spite of the fact he doesn’t particularly look or sound like Don Malarkey-he does a superb job portraying the exhaustion and existential terror of being put in the line of fire too many times. The real Don Malarkey was a character 😁. He was also a soldier. A warrior. An American.
Webster doesn't get this redemptive arc in real life. If you read his own memoir he talks about trying to get out of missions. On this patrol he talks about how he had an opportunity to volunteer to take the place of a replacement that couldn't swim, but he didn't want to, so he sat out of the patrol. The boat that tipped over actually had the replacement in it and he had to be rescued.
Growing up watching war movies that got so much wrong- "Battle of the Bulge" is a great example, I'm always hoping for the impossible goal of 100% accuracy, yet I'm torn with "Band of Brothers", because it is so good. Since these were real guys, I think it's only right are portrayed with the actual good or bad, but for the "story" it tells, the series feels so right as it is, even with the mistakes or deliberate changes from the reality. If the show had been done in the typical Hollywood fashion, I'd be a lot less willing to give the inaccuracies a pass!
Hacksaw Ridge - a true story that will blow your mind. Especially when you find out that they had to leave stuff out of the movie because they didn’t think viewers would believe it.
FUN FACT the wounded German soldier left crying out on the river bank is actually Tom Hanks doing a little cameo, if you listen to it again you can recognise his voice... Love your reactions btw
Talking how people wouldn't know if they weren't there is ever so important on the 80th anniversary of the Day of Days. Thankfully since Saving Private Ryan and Band Of Brothers came out there has been an increase in people seeking out veterans of all wars to hear there story before they, like we all will, fade away. Love the reactions and hope to see you in "episode 11"
Those were cans with rocks inside will alert the germans if anyone tripped the wire, john used the right technique to cut and avoid any noise. great reaction kids.
Webster got hit in episode 5, Crossroads. He is the one that yells and then jokes about saying 'They got me!' The young Lt. is Tom Hank's son, Colin. The last two episodes are arguably the best and most powerful.
Of all the men of Easy, Malarky had the most continuous time on the line, and this episode shows the effect of that extremely well. Absolutely exhausted, but still unwilling to come off the line for fear of letting down his fellow Easy company brothers.
Tom Hanks even enlisted his own son into the War, that's dedication...This is when Winters essentially "Dad arms" and protects his men of Easy Company in anyway he can, even by lying to command. I love the way they express so visually the soldiers experiences by the appearance of their uniforms. Webster's guilt is what leads him to volunteer for the patrol and earn respect from the men again...and he did. Episode 9, you are absolutely not ready... Currahee ♠
Respect to the sister for remembering Webster as the "Oh God, they shot me, can you believe I said that" guy in episode 5. Most people don't remember that. He's shown a bit in episode 4, with the guys who go out to try and find Bull Randalman, and you can also glimpse him in episode 1. And of course, there'll be more to see of him soon...
The reason the needed a night with a full moon is, it allows them to see better at night. But, also makes them more visable. The fun of fighting at night before night vision. Glad you noticed the cans on the barbed wire and said they were bells. It is so you can hear someone messing with your wires. Really enjoy watching your reactions. Also, LT Jones is played by Colin Hanks, Tom Hanks’ son.
My mother's older cousin went into Germany in 1945. The drama of how this is told, involves "will I be the last guy killed on the last patrol?". This dark shadow will continue until the end of the series. Your reactions show you are such remarkable siblings.
For anyone interested, the real David Webster's family has published a memoir book comprised of his diary and letters he wrote home during the war about his experiences in Easy Company. The book is called Parachute Infantry and it covers his journey from basic training to the end of the war. It's pretty damn good. Lots of details in it and lots of stuff that was depicted on the show. They dramatized his return to the company after his injury here as being resented for staying away too long, but in reality Webster was eager to return to Easy company after he got injured as he missed the other soldiers and didn't feel right staying in the hospital. Also, yes. Winters is an absolute legend. I highly recommend reading his' memoir Beyond Band of Brothers. He talks about this decision about the 2nd patrol, and oh so much more.
Lt. Jones is played by Tom Hanks son if I remember correctly. His name is Colin Hanks. Like someone else wrote. Episode 9 is a doozie. Very depressing.
His name is Johnny Martin. Episode 9 is probably the hardest to watch; however, imo, it's the most important one of this great series. Another great reaction, guys. CURRAHEE!
After the war, Lt. Jones was not discharged and remained in Germany where he was promoted to the rank of captain 970TH CIC DETACHMENT REGION VIII . He never returned to the United States. He died after an operation following an automobile accident in Berlin while stationed there on 21st July, 1947.
The last line came from David Webster's unpublished journal. After his death, Webster's wife had them submitted and they were published as "Parachute Infantry: An American Paratrooper's Memoir of D-Day."
Thanks guys, appreciate the reaction. For a different take, you could do Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. Basically now the top rated anime of all time (28 half hour episodes). It does really well on youtube reactions and may broaden your channel outreach.
Some reactors watch multiple shows at once. It allows them to upload different content. Might get you some more subscriptions. Regardless, I enjoy your channel.
If you guys are looking for a new show, might I suggest The Expanse? It's a fantastic sci-fi series I think y'all would really enjoy. Or maybe Deadwood which is a great western show.
I enjoy your reactions. You asked for something fun. Try Avatar the Last Airbender. It's an animated tv show lasting only 30 minutes with four season. It's abouy a boy caught in an iceberg and then rescued by a brother and sister. The boy and the sister have magical bending abilities like air and water respectively. It's a pretty funny show as they travel the world because the fire nation wanted to capture the boy. I'm sorry you holding Appa so must have seen the series before.
Next show I'd recommend you watch if you haven't seen it is Breaking Bad. Others to think about are Better Call Saul (only after Breaking Bad tho), The Boys, Game of Thrones, or Haunting of Hill House. Hell, I'd even suggest a show like 'Lost', but it has so many episodes that you guys could watch an episode a day and still take a few months to finish.
Enjoyed your reaction. A thing on YT right now has been Star Trek watches. Don't know if you guys have seen all those but it would a change of pace for you and the Star Trek community is pretty friendly. There are 4 or 5 major series Star Trek runs. Maybe pick one you haven't seen.
I want you to watch Generation Kill! Another war miniseries, but about the invasion of Iraq and the war on terror. Another true story. Not enough people react to that show, its a really good series.
Hope all is well with you two and, you are right to look for something more lighthearted. Archer would be a long term commitment but well worth it. Rick and Morty is also a fun watch.
Want something funny, epic, and full of all the emotions? Watch The Legend of Vox Machina. You'll probably pick up some subscribers from watching that, the Critters travel in large packs.
yes next episode will be a rough one. its nothing you haven't seen depicted before or heard of from first hand accounts, but its going to be personal. be ready.
Right it's quite annoying, they may not think of it as a full spoiler because they don't give the plot, but it still makes the reactors know that an emotional scene is going to come up. I thought the main point of watching reactors was to see their blind reactions, but so many people give these sort of half-spoilers, giving up that an episode with be emotional even if tghey don't give the details. It's also a spoiler to many viewers, I watched BOB before, but only once, the year it came out so it's pretty much new to me again, so I don't appreciate the spoilers either.

Plenty of soldiers dealt with PTSD by drinking. Unfortunately, Cobb was a belligerent drunk.
I came here to say this!
People - don't tell them anything about episode 9!! Stop spoiling the show... They've already been warned. Let them experience it without ruining it.
On Webster, "He had long ago made it a rule of his Army life never to do anything voluntarily. Also, it is my understanding that Webster was shipped to England, so "busting out" would have been much harder.

When I was in middle school I had to write a book report about Desmond Doss.
Quick scene showed Cobb being driven off in a jeep, accompanied by two MP's. "Drunk on duty" and I think he faced a general court proceeding...
He also attacked Lt Foley, but that wasn’t portrayed on the screen.
