OK, so then a question could be, how much time should a cold call take on average? Because time is money, and my success rate would depend on how effective my technique is in that amount of time,wouldn't it? Oh yeah, that's right, I'm overcomplicating things.

Isn’t there more benefit in sticking to a single vertical? Just staying put in cloud security for example Or was the main point to say sales skills is transferable lol. If so that’s very true.
Yes to both - it is advantageous if you stay in tech to sell in the same vertical, you will become more and more valuable over time. That said, if you transition out of tech, the fact that you know sales better prepares you for other careers as opposed to something like coding (if you were then to try and transition to real estate, etc...)

Only good state is Texas and often times the best accounts are owned by someone else already

SDR jobs are literally entry level. What qualification do you need?
Varies. Work experience or a degree are typically bare minimum. It also depends on what type of company you're trying to break into. I've seen just about everything with regards to no degree/degree, amount of work experience, etc... we have multiple people with no degrees that worked their way into AWS. What's your background?
@@techsales-higherlevels 10 years of instructional design/corporate training including 5 years of software training and 6 years of sales training, and still can’t even land an SDR job. In my feedback, it comes down to me not having SDR experience.

I might reach out to you guys in 6-12 months if I decide to reapply to AWS as an SDR. I had 3 interviews through 3 separate hiring managers with them within 60 days and couldn't get past the first interview each time to the loop. That's with me practicing and having STAR behavioral questions ready. Market sucks right now but I managed to land a very nice gig somewhere else. I know its AWS is only for the best of the best but clearly they think I'm AWS material somewhere if I was recycled 3 different times but obviously I couldn't pass the interview to save my life.

do you think this works well for higher velocity deal cycles as well with deal sizes between $5-30k?
Yes, this aligns well with higher velocity, shorter sales cycles. Its not to say it wouldn't work in enterprise when you're talking to the right people, but it certainly puts you ahead of 95+% of reps selling higher velocity products. Enterprise Sales is just a bit of a different beast

This is the video I didn't know I needed! I'm in the Academy right now. I'm in a decent and steady job in oil and gas but I was intrigued by tech sales. I always wanted to get into a lucrative sales vertical. But as I've been trying to "break in" I've also been networking with people both breaking in or that have just landed a tech sales job and quite a few are in and back out. So it's tough to know if it's worth jumping from a perfectly good boat, although the pay isn't nearly close to tech sales. But this makes total sense. If they thought it was a cake walk, they may have just had the wrong mindset. Having played sports in high school, all you can do is drill until game time them execute the play. The coin toss may not go your way, or the ball may bounce funny, but you keep doing what you practiced. The biggest take away and sense of peace is that if you are hitting KPIs showing improvement, they will back you. That was the peace of mind I needed to go full on. Thanks and maybe more mindset shows like this would be awesome. It sounds like Grit is also a key factor here. Angela Duckworth wrote a book titled "Grit" it's a great book speaking about what it takes and mirrors a lot of what was said in this pod. Bookmarked this one as I will definitely be relistening from time to time.
