Hi Eric! Merry Xmas to you, I hope you've been enjoying the vacation and getting that R&R as we head into 2025. I wanted to say thank you and Kris for making this channel, and for giving Sales talent around the world tips that make a difference. I broke into Tech Sales earlier this year, and owe my level of prep to your videos. I would love to hear your take on best practices when it comes to building relationships in the Enterprise Space, def gonna have my eye out for the coming content! All the best to you and Kris, I appreciate y'all.
Can I get a discount on sdr to AE course?
Hey Eric, loved the vid! I completely relate to you when you say you hated being at the low level implementation with less financial upside. That's exactly what my current situation is! I have been a software dev writing code for the last 3 years and I crave more business exposure and financial upside so I've been looking into alternatives. I feel like I have more to offer and would enjoy working human to human more as well. Would you recommend a sales engineer role for me or tech sales? Is it common to start out as a sales engineer and then move to tech sales or some other position with higher upside a few years down the line? Thanks!
What the days schedule like as an entry level sdr? How much of it is structured vs free to manage your time and do the job as you please?
"to make sure that our wins in moderation are being seen in the right way by leadership" - could you expand a bit more on this, please?
Eric, this is a very good video!
getting those early ops closed one way or the other is super important. the longer they sit on your pipeline the more your manager will see them as 'yours'
checking salesforce for notes. Good luck with that! most places I have worked the reps kept absolutely terrible notes on SF.
@@ollyrukes agreed but it doesn’t mean it’s not a valid strategy or worth checking. I got one of the biggest deals I ever closed that way
Nice vid. Can you talk about most in demand tech sales niche? I’m super excited to be in AI databases for exp
@@kylerodgers3608 really depends what you’re looking for. In general more technical is better in my opinion because less people are willing to put in the time to do that at a high level. But there is no one answer and chasing trends is generally a bad idea if there’s no merit to it. Where do you work currently?
Hey Eric, As always, I truly appreciate the effort and thought you put into your videos. This one was especially informative, and I walked away with valuable insights. I’m grateful to be part of the Higher Levels community and to have the opportunity to learn and grow alongside like-minded individuals. Enjoy your travels abroad.
@@Christianamerson thanks Christian! Great to have you as part of the community! Have a great Christmas and new year!

This was an incredible interview and story! Also love his quote “it’s amazing what you can get done with no distractions.”
Eric, you have videos about cold calling, emailing, interviewing, success stories, but.. would love to see some content on "how to prepare for your first discovery call" or "how to run your first disco call" - kind of videos. - what to expect from the first ones, what to do, what not do to.. etc For example: What to expect from your first calls. What to do and what not to do. Other tips for beginners.
I’ve heard some mixed reviews about the tech sales industry, especially SDR roles. Do you think it’s still worth pursuing those positions?
Yes
Thanks for the openness and transparency. I recently sold my business and went to work for the company that purchased it. I had one question regarding a comment you made. You stated you should do what is comfortable. But does comfort lead to success. It feels like I’m swimming in a pool with boots on just trying to keep my head above water. I have watched many TH-cam videos and most come across as robotic and as if you have to remake your personality into something that’s not genuine. I really did like all the points and things you were making. Do you offer online courses to help with the whole sales stick. Most of my cold calling is in person more door to door to find new leads. Was wondering if over the phone or in person tend to net better results. Anyway thanks for the video it was a great help.
@@kingcorbra100 what is your current role? Yes we offer training at higher levels.com. Are you looking for cold calling specifically or more?
Awesome video! You guys always have such great informative videos! I missed you guys black Friday promotion by a day and was wondering if you guys would be offering a End of Year special by chance? @tech sales with higher levels
Solid conversation! Thank you for such a gem.
What made you switch to MIS?
Can you explain a little more on what the interviewers are looking for when they ask the question about narrowing down a prospect list?

When I run the roleplay, we ask the candidate to self reflect before we give feedback “what was good about that? What would you do differently?” Then we give our feedback and ask the same questions again to see if they have taken on the feedback.
That's where you arguably learn the most about a candidate

From my experience if someone has 3 years of SDR experience and hasn’t been promoted to something more senior is probably a bit of a red flag. Most really good SDRs get promoted inside 2 years.
@@ollyrukes definitely can be the case. There are always exceptions but this is largely true
I’m planning on starting my tech sales course, I wanted to know if you guys had any tips and tricks for beginners who are doing the course? Like is there anything I should be doing socially in the meantime?
Are you referring to the Tech Sales Ascension program? What’s your background?
thank you for this amazing in depth video!!! i have braces on (the visible ones) and i feel i look weird in my interviews. Set aside equity hiring, does it play a negative factor on some level ? i know its a weird question, but after 10 rejections this year, i wonder if this is playing a role somehow... lol i do have a lot of interview growth to achieve as well :)
Shouldn’t if you are showing traits of a top performer. Did you get rejected after just applying or rejected after interviewing?
@ I’m applying to sales engineering roles. I usually get rejected at the technical interviews. I am now updating my skills, picking up projects and taking courses. But the last job I was told repeatedly throughout the interview process that “it’s ok if I don’t check all the tech boxes” yet the reason they gave for rejecting my application in the end was that they found someone with more technical acumen. This happened in the last few jobs I applied to.
Its so funny that I found this video. I'm the guy who was super anxious on the phone call. It was my first cold call to a recruiter and honestly, I was so excited to get him on the call in the first place that I didn't have anything prepared to say once he picked up. For some reason, I thought it would just come to me, but you know as they say "fail to prepare, you prepare to fail". Anyway, I'm now here preparing for a final round interview looking to clinch the role
You’re famous now! 😂
@@mauricioventura1901 And I got the role! I start in January!
Thank you for the video! I have a 4 year degree from a University college and have a couple years of experience in outside sales within the internet and home improvement fields. Any solid recommendations on where to look for and apply to SDR roles?

I have question. For someone who does not have good computer knowledge (I can barely operate this laptop) How or where should I start a sales career ? I am not looking at door to door and I certainly don't know enough to do tech. Am I destined to just cold calling/SDR ? Anybody in particular I should look up or avenue I should head towards- or avoid, for the best possible outcome ? I am over 55 and broke with medical issues. I need to make a career change real fast. Blessings to ya. Peace.
This could not have come at a better time for me. 27 years old in SMB B2B selling a very complex service/tech that takes years to learn - been here for four months. This is what I call value. Thank you BOTH
If let’s say a person applied intensively and correctly to the right people and who also interviewed well and asked great questions did all the follow up. But has no STEM degree. Asking because I see that tech sales is taking more of a tech specialized outlook for picking candidates. Is this true?
Not at all - I don't even have a degree and I don't think any of my sales reps do either last time I checked.
@@huseinfatehi2596 don’t need a STEM degree, it can stand out if you have one but not required
No one on my team, including me, has a STEM degree. Sales Leadership doesn’t have a STEM degree either. I’m not sure why you think you need one. You don’t.
Great insight. Thank you.
Thank you for the video, I’m looking for a fully remote role while I travel. Not too worried about the income, as long as it’s decent. But good to know there’s room to make tons of money 🎉
Currently have been in sales for 5+ years, where would you recommend looking for these positions to apply? Also how would you vet them to make sure they’re a solid company?
@@Myerskylar what have you sold? What is your current title?
@ Currently Senior Service consultant at an automotive protection and accessories company. About half way through my computer science degree and was interested in Machine learning engineering or Cyber Security but it may be better to stick with sales since I have prior experience and have done fairly well for myself.
@ nice, I would look for SDR roles in that space, that background will serve you well but they’d probably want you to start as an SDR or SMB AE to get tech experience, most likely SDR

This video is a goldmine for anyone in B2B sales or looking to master cold calling. The emphasis on delivering a concise, value-driven statement right at the start of the call is a game-changer-it’s all about showing prospects that their time is valuable. Also, the advice on handling objections with persistence and structure is spot on. For anyone struggling, remember: practice builds confidence, and every ‘no’ is a step closer to refining your approach. Cold calling is a skill that pays dividends for life-don’t give up!
Really hope the sales plan will be included in the course soon! Seems like many students have found a lot of success with it in their job search.
