- It's that time of year again?
I mean, yes, it's close to the holiday, but it's also about the time CicLAvia hosts its Sunday open streets events. This time around, CicLAvia opened MLK Jr. Boulevard., Central Avenue, and 103rd Street to foot traffic and non-motor vehicles.
On the journey I had a chance to check out a couple of prominent places, including the Masjid Bilal Islamic Center, Dunbar Hotel, Central Avenue Jazz Park, the new Kaiser Health and Counseling building, and the historic fire house in Watts.
It's not often South LA gets the spotlight for citywide events, so I thoroughly enjoyed reclaiming the streets and taking my time admiring the street for what it is today.

Ciclavia is one my favorite events in LA! It really shows the latent demand for bike infrastructure in the city. I went to last year's South LA Ciclavia and had some delicious barbecue from a random guy on the route making food in his front yard for passersby lol.
I finally got to go to one. It was the one today in Mid City. It was awesome! And so joyous. I rode my bike for seven hours.
Sounds like tons of fun. Wish I could have made it out today, but it looks like you got a chance to ride for you and me both!
I could watch someone walking around different parts of LA for hours ☺️
Great channel. Watching from Scotland 🏴 in the United Kingdom. I love getting to see parts of LA I might never get to see in person. Thank you for showing us around 👏
All the way from Scotland?! That’s so cool! As always drop a note in the comments if there’s something else you’d like to see in South LA. Always happy to share the knowledge!
Cool vid, and I think I may have ran into you cough cough, if you catch my drift. It was nice seeing you in person, I really appreciate the time you took for this event and the work you put into explaining your videos on the history i call SOUTH CENTRAL. Much love and one love from the ES LOW BOTTOMS to The South LA Recap! Keep up the immaculate work brother.
Hahaha definitely caught me off guard yesterday, but it was great seeing you in person! And thanks for supporting The Recap all this time, too. This is community work and I’m glad we can all be a part of it.
Looking forward to the next time I’ll catch you around
Nice video of CicLAvia and a little history about this part of South Los Angeles.
I appreciate it!
I was wondering what was up with ya, it's been a minute since I've seen something new from you. Nice job. 😎
Thanks, Greg! And yes, this is just the start. Im working with a bigger project on a cool robotics program in South LA! I’m looking to publish it by the end of the month. Thanks for tuning in!
No cars makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE...LESS SMOG LESS STRESS,NO ACCIDENTS, NO CRAZY DRIVERS.
I ride a bike and have never made it to Ciclavia events but would love to ride one. Glad to see you were there filming it.
The next one will be in the valley in February! But it was a ton of fun. And the hubs had tons of information, bike repair shops, and food trucks. Glad I could share it with you!
such good vibes! hope they can make more protected bike lanes and make a lot of ciclavia permanent. Los Angeles has so much unfulfilled potential
Missed this event but it was cool seeing some of it covered here. Also def going to learn more about Jauntia Tate!
It was a great ride. Walking and bike riding really creates a cool experience around the region’s history. And I’m also looking forward to learning about Juanita Tate, too!
