    There is truth in many things but the opinions of this video are a bit reductive. What is being glossed over here is that trauma can create measurable damage to the nervous system which interferes with the body’s ability to self regulate. If the gas pedal of your car is stuck open and the brakes (the parasympathetic nervous system) burn out, singing a happy song isn’t going to fix the underlying problem. The source of anxiety and depression is often a neurological response rather than being purely emotional. We don’t expect people to heal a broken arm through positive thinking and neither should we imply that mental illness is any different. Too often, we look for simple solutions and wind up blaming the patient if the treatment fails. A more comprehensive approach would include an anti inflammatory diet, vagus nerve toning, and possibly Transcraneal Magnetic Stimulation. I agree that medication is not always effective or even necessary but it can certainly be used on a short term basis to help stabilize a person who is in decline or threatening harm to self or others.

    The stupid innane wallpaper music is counterproductive and belittles whatever good content there is. The lay person talk is partly ok, but neuroscience would pinpoint it much better. See Dr. Professor Robert Sapolsky for a much better understanding.

    Hi. Thank you for the insightful video. I work in social services with people who have had very abusive childhoods and as a result today struggle with severe mental and legal issues. They are alone without family. It’s hard to appreciate the comfortable life I was born into by total chance, because I am always crippled by other people’s pain. When you see true struggle and poverty, how can you go on knowing that it exists? Any thoughts on how I can work on this would be helpful. Take care.

      Great question, with many possible answers. But one way to reframe this in your mind is to ask yourself if it makes you better to feel bad for them. Are you more or less productive? What they believe will determine how fast they can recover from their situation, or if they will recover from it. How you feel and what you believe will determine how much you can help in being a better guide or facilitator. Does your feeling bad makes them feel better? Does it change their situation? If they believe they are a victim to their circumstances, how can you help them change that belief if you have the same belief as well? They have their own story, only they can change it, if they believe they can. Hope that helps!

    • @misternikon
      @misternikon 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've heard of neuroplasticity years ago. What I would do now? Believe it or not I'd get on ChatGPT, the AI site. Start asking it questions. Ask for a second answer to the one it just answered. Go on TH-cam and find a SHORT video on how to frame your answers. If you can hold your attention for a long video go with that. My attention span is terrible. Print out as much as you can. I'm in no way a mental health professional. Just keep digging. You'll find something that will give you which way(s) to go next. Good luck!

    Stop watching news media. Strictly limit internet use. Don't become enslaved to a phone. If you're taking a day off, don't wear a watch. Make prioritized lists of projects instead of carrying to-do-lists in your brain. Don't have a TV. Watch old movies that are slower paced. Take a full Sabbath Day rest without any interruptions once a week. Don't let society control you. Perform regular exercise that you enjoy. Eat healthy food. Don't use alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, or caffeine. Fear, anxiety, and anger solve nothing.
