Was cyberpunk 2077 running in path tracing mode? If not on the 4090 could you please test that. Also can you test Control with RT at 4K and Alan Wake 2 with full Ray Tracing at 4K with as high of settings as you can run? I spy a OneXplayer X1, could you rerun the tests including that? I'd appreciate it. I'm considering the ONEXPLAYER X1 with 64GB of ram myself.

@@trysometech52 They've released new bios updates recently in the last 2 weeks or so. You have you get from their discord, which is shady and stupid. There's a video of the trick required that you need to do to update it. I'll be watching your review either way. I don't like how the controller module to link them together and use them via bluetooth is still a "pre-order" thing. A channel called Barely Average Dude and he didn't like the controller. I'm interested in the tablet style function more than the controllers as I would use a TB hub and KB and mouse. If TB5 wasn't coming out at the end of the year I would have purchased the X1, but considering it will be faster than current OCulink devices I'll used that as I want a portable that can give me at least 8x PCI-e 4.0 and TB5 will do that, getting the EGPU bay for it will be a wait. Intel already has a demo of it on their yt channel.

I’ve updated BIOS two times already, there is something more than just a software. Also AMD version of X1 will be released soon, but even that will not fix some other problems. Isn’t Thunderbolt 5 also has 4x4.0? I think performance will be similar, but with hot swap and other features

I think that’s just a marketing material. In reality TB3/4 is not 40gbps for eGPU connection (I have a video on this topic). Also they claimed x2 performance, which is exact difference between PCIe3 vs 4. So technically they didn’t lie.

Odd choice of hardware -- top end GPU that costs more than all of the other components. If you want high end and silent, you should do put a waterblock on that 4090, pair it with a 14900K, and cool everything with a MORA (200mm fans).

@@trysometech52 It can be silent if watercool it and have enough radiators. And while I agree that the i9 may be "overkill" in an abstract sense, the upgrade i5 -> i9 is completely justified for a few hundred bucks when you are spending close to $2000 on a 4090 anyway. As you yourself showed you get slightly better performance especially in terms of 1% lows which is what really matters.

Apparently we have a different understanding of a quiet PC. My PC at peak load adds +5dB to the room noise, and it never reached peak load, you can't beat that result. Also, look at the attached comment from me there. By raising the power limit to 100watts I achieved the same performance. 14900K is just not worth it in my opinion

Another caveat for this is since this is a desktop setup, the thunderbolt controller is on a separate chipset present on the motherboard and is definitely not going to perform similarly to say a laptop with an Intel cpu or amd cpu (not sure on amd) that has a thunderbolt controller on-die. There would be higher latency on this desktop thunderbolt setup so you also have to consider that part. Edit: not sure if amd has an on die thunderbolt setup similar to Tiger lake onwards for Intel, and they seem to have a worse? Implementation compared to Intel thunderbolt chips on desktop motherboards so there's that as well.
