#90 : Testwood Trout fishery and Stalking Monsters!
You can visit my website here: www.martynwilliamsflies.co.uk/
This was a day to remember stalking monster rainbow trout at Testwood. I had a 6 man crew of top anglers and best mates all ready for some clear water summer stalking , chasing monster rainbows. It was a brilliant day with all 6 anglers bagging there limits with all fish over 10lbs!
Best fly patterns on the day were copper and UV orange and heavy baitfish with UV bodies. Peter also bagged a lot of fish on my black and gold extra heavy stalkers.

www.martynwilliamsflies.co.uk/ - My Website This was a breezy bright day at Avington in mild June and I'd arranged a get together with a group of top guys. The Lakes Were Gin clear, but the wind was blowing hard on lake 2 which made stalking difficult as the day went on we managed plenty of good fish in the 4-8lb range and the copper coloured stalking bug did the damage for me.

www.martynwilliamsflies.co.uk/ This was a trip I was really looking forward to. Going Back to 2023 the fishery sold and the gossip was that the new owner was going to concentrate on new accommodation and the future of the actual fishing was unsure. I started hearing a few reports of it fishing very well, with a good head of fish and lots of big browns. So I phoned up and had a good chat with th...

www.martynwilliamsflies.co.uk/ This was another great day at Rockbourne at the end of march with a great bunch of guys. Bright and flashy flies were the order of the day.

My Website : www.martynwilliamsflies.co.uk/ On Friday evening I got a message to say our trip to Dever on Saturday was off. I messaged everyone and we moved to Rockbourne. The water was murky but it was cold and the sport was brilliant. I found pulling big flies fast was the perfect method for the day.

Hi Martyn just bought some flies from your site, they arrived today. Excited to give them a try! What's your rod and reel?
Hello mate, my rod is a 9'6#7 hardy zenith. It's a lovely stiff fishing rod which I like . The reel is a hardy dd large arbor #7. Line is a #7 rio stillwater elite. Regards Martyn
Great video but have to ask what happened to your thumb?
Hello mate, nothing major, just dry cracked skin.
Well done Martyn, another cracking video…
Outstanding Fish well Done 👍👍👍👍
Excellent Martyn. I had to cancel my September booking. But I’m there again in October. Can’t wait. Testwood is my favourite venue to fish. I know it’s pricey, but everything you catch is over 10lb, and it’s nice to get a PB. Not only that, but you get to fish the Test as well……..Yes, the Test on a C&R, but where else can we (the great unwashed) get to catch Grayling and wild trout. Not only that but Nigel is a great character.
My favorite thing about this fishery is being able to fish the river too...Nice Browns and Grayling in there...The Grayling love some of your tiny flies Martyn.
Bossington is a great venue
12:12 mins Six million Dollar man Theme Tune. Great Video and Fish.
@timbrandon1466 thank you mate 👍
Great video at a lovely venue. We'll done Martyn for adapting during the day
Great content, do you kill all fish or do you do catch and release also.
@darrenwest6173 hello mate, all these venues don't really offer catch and release, just catch and kill. Problem is that if these fish are not handled gently, they would probably die if released.
Now thats a fishery can anyone recommend any in Scotland bait and fly apart from new mills lanark spend about 500 in permits and tackle and caught 3 catch and release and ave fished foe 15 years thanks
What indicator are you using here?
They are airflow airlock indicators mate
New Go Pro looks great..
Think you mean ''Robagent'' daddy LL 😈
New ink ?
No mate, had those for years
Bung and Buzzer special, those are some lovely fish Martyn… thanks for sharing Sir.
White leach ? Do they exist?
The fish not fighting does tend to be more of a summer thing …. Usually they fight like Mike Tyson on roids. I feel Avington is on its way to making a comeback after the loss of Dever
Love the videos. What mic set-up do you use…?
It's built-in to my gopro hero 12 mate, nothing fancy
Fantastic day, great fishing with you again.
Glad you enjoyed it
Love your content. Can't wait for the next one.
Another cracking video Martyn, proper trout at a Proper fishery.
Thanks 👍
Cracking fish martyn
What fly line are you using Martyn? Is it Rio?
Yes, the floater is a riot stillwater elite mate
so many fish deformed , bulging from fish feed , these fish would eat out of your hand , i would really hate to think that anyone would actually eat any of these considering the toxic feed that makes them bloated and deformed . beautiful place .
Great video👍 I take fish for a friend of mine as I don’t eat them myself, usually stockies what I take 2-3lb been told that the bigger they get the worst they taste. Just out of interest is there any truth to that l? also been told by a fish farmer that sometimes it’s best to knock a double on the head as they don’t always do too well if you try to release them.
Hello luke, I'm not a big fan of fresh trout and I usually pass them on. All my customers say they taste superb because they are fresh and I look after them. I believe catch and release is fine as long as it's done correctly.
Nice one Martyn. It’s a strange thing, but at Testwood I prefer fishing the far bank. 🎣
Nice one chaps ...looks good fun 👍
Nigel can be very proud of his work producing such Magnificent conditioned Trout.. Another very watchable video Martyn…
7 lol 3 at most o get a scales your making yor self look stupid
Is it just fly only
Yes, fly only
With most things I think you get what you pay for. Most of the fish that get caught on most of these waters are quite a bit bigger than most, and that obviously costs quite a bit. Not to mention all the facilities/upkeep and general stocking. As with everything else its going to go up in price. Stunning fish, beautiful clear water and a nice environment to enjoy with mates!
I was very disappointed on my last visit for £130. Place was a building site, Loud music, no cafe, no tackle, toilets were shut. No mention of any of this when we booked. Fish quality was awful! No fight at all. Filleted out 2 of my fish a parts of the flesh were yellow!
Agreed, £130 and hardly any fish and I do mean that,. Pulling nets through the water whilst I was fishing. Final insult being told I should not have booked on their work day! and then the stocked it with Browns and Rainbows in middle of afternoon.. I understand work needs doing, but there is time to do the work and the lakes need serious desilting. traditional stalking areas have less then a foot of water?
How long ago was it? New owners and Tom are doing a great job, last owners hopeless !!
@@markfleming1177 this was 3 months back roughly, I was really excited to go back again after a few years but was extremely disappointed!
@@SouthCoastBassSmash try again, new guys are really good.
My trip was tuesday 30th April
Enjoyed that bud! Avington is the best stalking water of them all in my opinion 🙌🏻
Just recently started fly fishing 🎣 my friend told me about your flies so have put an order in 🙌, thought i would see if you were on TH-cam and what a pleasant surprise, iv enjoyed watching your videos, looked like a beautiful day and the way you caught the first one mate me chuckle 😂 keep up the awesome content and im very much looking forward to trying your flies on my local fisherie 👍🤞
130 quid. What was Dever putting it up to that everyone kicked off about? Why is this water better? Genuine question- fished dever a lot, not tried Avignton because it was always more expensive, but this seems to be same ball park as what Dever were taking about?
Dever was a stalking water but also had the traditional blind fishing with deeper water …. Especially on willow lake. Avington is much more sight fishing oriented…. It’s basically chalk springs with bigger fish (Bigger average). With Dever being shut now and with Lechlade’s posting on Facebook about waiting to see what happens with a planning application to try and get some income during the summer months the future of the specimen trout industry is very uncertain. It’s very expensive you will find no argument from me but in speaking with many fishery owners getting fish to double figures costs them a fortune …. It kinda just costs what it costs and many people are sadly just going to be priced out of the specimen waters now … they are all a business however and need to make some profit if they want to keep going …. There is no easy answer
Excellent video. Your camera is picking up the water clarity excellently…….Is that even a word 🤔
Yes, thanks
@@martynwilliams7229hi mate, is there any chance I can get involved on one of your next group fishing days? I’m desperate to get out with you👍👏
@jonathanevans602 do you follow me on my Facebook posts mate?
To me it always looks very odd when the reel is mounted the wrong way round
Hello mate, I believe this is the correct way. I'm right handed, hold the the rod in my right hand and reel with my left. Regards Martyn
Which rod are you using ? I can know plz
At least the place is not covered with weeds, and you can make a cast, It costs a lot of money to clean out someone else's pond from May on.
Hi David, This is Roger here who visited your wonderful trout fishery a few weeks ago. Im just sitting watching this video. My condolences go out to you buddy. I kbow how you feel as it as happened to me. Keep your chin up buddy and god bless. I will be visiting Ledyatt trout fishery again around September. Warmest. Roger,
My home fishery, many great days, thanks Dan & Calum for all the hard work
Great finally meeting up with you mate. See you soon. 👍
Martin do you have any trouble with the rio gold elite line coiling ?
hi Martyn thank for letting me come down and fish with you was a fantastic day with some cracking fish hopefully get to do it again soon.
Great day for it you did well
Hi, I’m just getting into fyl Fishing Martin watching quite a lot of your videos trying to learn something. Do you tie the flys you are catching on in this video, and sell them Martin Williams you seem to meet up with a good bunch of people and have a good dinner and a good time. That’s what it’s all about. Keep up the good videos👍😎
Brilliant day Martyn, thanks for organising it for us… top guy.
love the clear water at chalk springs, the fish are always deeper than you think, some great fish, well done all.
Nice and calm day for the fly 🎣
