My mechanic thru it away on mine
Yep - that’s what happens!
That is the same problem I had 😮😮😮
I have watched four TH-cam videos on replacing rear wheel bearings on a classic Mini, and this was by far the best! Thank you.
@@dschwartz1957 - Thank you for the kind inspiring words!
Dude lifesaver. I messed up and didn’t take a picture of my old lines!
You’re Welcome. Glad to help!
I use a Lincoln 140 with 023 wire. It works great for the type of work your doing
Thank you!
THANK YOU!! I may or may not have driven away with the gas pump still attached and broken this housing. 🤦♂
Well they are common to break. 😇 And now you know how to fix it - saving money. Thanks for great comment!
Some of that rear floor looks a little punky. I'd probably change it out and try to make one big piece to go between the trunk pan and the rest of the floor. It'd be a lot more solid that original rusty metal.
Agreed. That’s my plan in spring. Thank you!
I recently inherited a 73 SJ from my dad and it appears to be the same color
You’re a lucky guy to inherit such a gem.
@@canadianwrench Yes i am, it's a beautiful car and in good condition
One question: is that part you changed related to the Airbag light? Incredible... I have all the lights just like you before doing that job.
So much is related to each other on these BMWs - it’s hard to say. Good luck.
My lights in the dash came on as well as the speedometer not working, the drivers side rear censor was rubbing through because the reluctor wheel swelled from rust on the axle . Had to replace both censor and left rear axle . As far as the air bag light is concerned , my passenger side air is off and showing a code and I believe there’s a recall from BMW for air bag but you have to call and give your vin number to verify.
@@timrowe28- Yep, that’s exactly what happens. Thank you!
Awesome have the exact same issue thanks for the video.
Fantastic!! Thank you for your comment! My wipers have worked flawlessly since.
Hate to tell you that is not the original rear step.
Educate me. I only know what was passed on to me.
The rear step is also a seat when folded up, it hangs strait down that is what the notches are for. The hinges for it are directly above your home made steps.
Great info! I will look into this. Thank you!!
Fluid Film or the equivalent would prevent further undercarriage rust.
I do love Fluid Film - I’m sure it would add some life to it.
Thanks for this video! How many miles were on your explorer in this video? Sorry if you said it and i missed it i have the volume down.
I believe approximately 160000km which is nearly 100000miles.
Many thanks my boy! I watch the Koni videos and yours was the only one that I could understand and do the adjustments. My Konis are brand new for my GT6
my bad I understand now thank you I have the same problem
u said a like a dead battery but no power no light on the dash
Yep, that’s a Canadian car all right !
Yep - I’ve been battling the rust belt my whole life!
This Canadian has an obsession with minis enjoy. 👍
True!
Do you have a video how to replace the turbos?
No sorry - no video on Turbos. I ended up taking it to a shop with a hoist.
OH MY GOD!! You have such a beautiful soul and words cannot describe how you just turned my entire life around right now. i hope life gives you nothing but positivity for the reminder of your FREAKING EXISTINCE!!!!
Thank you!! Awesome review!
Q: What's the length of the ground strap brother
Just a guess - 12”-16”. Old one is gone - new one is on the car.
@@canadianwrench nappa had the 18", thank you for the reply. Can't express enough how thankful i am that i came across ur video. got me to work. cheers
Good video, changed my plugs today following your directions. Used a 5/8 10in extension to reach the plugs, perfect size for front and especially rear bank.
Great!! Saved some cash too!!
I would pour some AT-205 Reseal in it. The stuff stopped the leak around my power steering pump shaft on my 2000 Ford Expedition about 2 years ago. Just don't use too much because it will dilute the oil if you do. Amazon sells similar stuff for $ 12. It swells rubber a tiny bit, which is often enough to stop a small leak from a worn shaft seal. You can't use it in brake systems.
I would use that as a temporary solution - Thank you.
lol it worked bro, same problem for me. stopped at the grocery store then dead. the sparkplug trick worked.. you're my hero <3
correction "jumper cable trick "
@@ericineson7568Awesome!!
@@canadianwrench Hey brother, I can't replace this for another two weeks and need to get to work; I'm worried that the battery wont charge properly on the run, is there anything you could suggest until I can get the ground cable replaced please. Thank you kindly
@@ericineson7568- maybe a temporary ground wire from engine to body.
@@canadianwrench I drove to work today with the booster cables grounding from the negative terminal to the engine block in the engine bay.. think that'd be okay for a week. . thanks man
Magnificent!!Thanks this was very informative and helpful
Thank you!
Thanks you saved me a lot of money
I need the chrome wheel well opening trim for the left front (driver's side). Do you still have it?
I do - car is still complete. It will be a parts car soon.
Hi. Are you parting this out yet? @@canadianwrench
@@johnhelle6926- I will see about pulling that wheel moulding off. carprojects@hotmail.com
What is the single white and black wire on the corner left top of the speedo mounting bolt? Ground wires? Thanks!
Yes - Ground wires.
@canadianwrench where do you attach other end of ground wire? And does it help to put more ground wires in certain spots where there are no ground wires? Thanks!
@@markfeuerherdt2338- I would assume without looking at a schematic - black is a ground feed - from a known good ground - body etc. White - feed for options in dash (other gages etc.).
Thanks!!
.....confused by step four........ I thought I was on a roll when I was keeping up with step two,...but then i heard my 10mm roll away someplace.
lol 😂!
@@canadianwrench ( I actually found a 10mm at a yard sale yesterday...two in fact. The funny thing is I was picking up sockets and one said " john" on it? John? It was a John Deere socket....1/2" drive 10mm. To me that is laughable..... I think when working on a ten mm...you need 3/4" drive and just for good measure, keep a 1" drive impact gun at the ready. Those 10mm can be devilish little buggers....Don't turn your back! )
Agreed - I have back up 10mm everything (several). Cool find - the overkill 10 mil. from JD. I love that old stuff.
@@canadianwrench I think I found a 10mm Craftsman in the street. I've got it on film but it was run over so many times....I can't read the numbers yet. It gave me an idea for a vide.
Is that hydraulic cap has dipstick in it
Yes the cap has the dipstick attached. See my other video it shows everything you need to know.
Nice picture
Should save the transmission crossmember. It’s a double hump one for dual exhaust that bolts onto the 75-77 cars that only had a single hump. Obviously save the 400. That’s a desirable block. The Turbo 400 transmission is worthwhile. Didn’t see if the trim around the quarter glass was decent but 73 was the only year they were stainless steel. 74-77 were plastic. The header panel is a 1 year only piece as are the bumpers and rear valance and taillights. Also since it had a heated back glass, that giant alternator is probably an 80 amp and are difficult to find these days. There are probably other 1 year only parts on it which should be saved if you scrap it. Definitely keep all the rally wheels.
I am definitely the saver - everything that can be will be saved and forwarded to who needs it. Thanks for all the info!
@@canadianwrench Thanks. Mid 70s GM Colonnade cars are my favorite cars. Especially the GP. They don’t get the love they deserve. Looks like it maybe too far gone since there’s little aftermarket support for these. But there’s definitely some good parts on there. I would think someone would appreciate them in the future.
There’s a few bad spots on the frame. But a mostly complete donor - good for someone that has a perfect body. I revived it years ago and then it got parked and neglected. I love those old 70s beasts. I drove so many.
@@canadianwrench Bad frame definitely the end of the road. That fate claimed my 76 Toronado. Funny thing is the floors on that car were clean enough to eat off of. Had it fixed twice but kept rotting out in the same place. I paid $750 for it in 92 and drove it for about 13 years as a winter beater. I live in the rust belt. Miss that car dearly. Good luck with your projects.
Wow - 13 years! Fantastic!! Yeah I’m in the rust belt too. Thanks again for your comments. Great to hear from other Gearheads!
That’s not the original mileage. That instrument cluster is from a 75-77 because it has a 100 MPH speedometer. 73-74 had a 120 MPH speedometer. I’ve owned quite a few GM cars of this era. The square key was for the ignition and the round key did the doors, trunk and glove box. Never saw one that the square key opened the door.
Mileage should be accurate - I bought from the original owner in the mid 80s. I will look into instrument cluster too. Thanks for input.
I’m having a really hard time finding the ground strap on my 2011 model. Is there any chance it’s taped to a positive cable? Have you had a look at this for any of the newer x3s by any chance?
It’s sometimes on mount bolt to the starter. It’s got to be there, somewhere. Usually the positive and negative aren’t taped together but maybe a previous repair. You could just add one where my ground was. It won’t hurt anything.
@@canadianwrench I’m taking another look tomorrow. Thanks for the extra tips.
Great sense of humour and helpful watch!
Much appreciated!
im getting brownish discharge from my left rear axle where the rim mounts, the rear 3 pt hitch barely lifts, the front all works fine and fluid shows full by shifters, I was hoping there was more than 1 location for hydraulic fluid?
Is the brown discharge oily? Maybe an axle seal. Is your Hydraulic oil brown? If not - maybe some rust being pushed out. Same tractor? Some tractors may have separate systems. Changing fluid would be first thing - clean your pickup screen too!! After that - maybe a restriction to 3ph making it slow. Good luck
This is the best video I've seen on this topic. Thank you.
Thank you!! Great comments like yours keeps me making videos.
Well - the reason I was doing the spark plugs was engine seemed to lack power. Replacing spark plugs didn’t improve that. The oil was a sign of seals in the turbos was leaking. I ended up replacing both turbos. One turbo expeller was blown down the exhaust pipe.
Helpful video, thank you for making it. I had as much oil coming from the intake as you did, where do you go from here?
Just a word of advice you can make your own much better longer lasting ground cable using 4 gauge battery cable with two crimp clamps
Thank you. Yes - I have made many over the years.
Can the part be called alternator ground cable? It looks the exact same. Please let me know.
It could be the same part used in several places. When I called dealer - I described it as the lower ground body to engine. You could even make one!
@@canadianwrench Oh ok ok sweet. Thank you so much!
Thank you for the video!
Like my older brother use to say back in 1983 as long as you have the body northern calif 🇺🇲
I love that you shot and posted thus, thanks! I wasn't shooting video in 2016 when I took posession of my M152. So, seeing this really takes me back! Thanks 🤘
I’m glad you enjoyed video. Great comments like this keep me making more!
What’s the part number
I didn’t catch the number. I just ordered mine at dealer with my VIN as a reference.
What fluid/lube did you use to refill ?? Im In central Oklahoma
I used AW 32. Unfortunately more than one 19L (5 gallon) bucket of fluid is needed. Tractor supply usually good price.
@@canadianwrench thank you
Where did you buy these? Do you have a link?
The belts I got through a local supplier - which I believe came from Moss. The brackets came from Mini Spares (which I believe have the belts too).
Same problem on my 1710. When you drain the contaminated fluid, what position should the fel rams be in to make sure all fluid is removed?
I would try to get pistons retracted on hydraulics. So - FEL down / 3ph down. You’ll never get 100% out but it’s nice to know you got as much as possible.
Thank you!
Great job , informative
