Awesome video! Do you know if there's an option to convert the process black to true black? Thank you!
Love the vid!
Awesome to hear! Thanks for your comment.
Was that Larry June at the beginning?
I want to sign up. Do you include kiss cut and contour lines for printers?
What do you think about these strategies? I thought the "buckets" of hours strategy was really interesting!
I’ve been using a phased pricing system for about four years, ever since I read Michael Janda's book The Psychology of Graphic Design Pricing, where he goes into great detail about it. While I don’t apply this method to every project, I always use phased pricing for annual reports, websites, and logo designs-it’s the only approach that makes sense to me for those types of work.
Great video, Dave! I thought the idea of building a proposal with the client was very interesting. I can see how this approach would increase sales since there’s transparency and the customer would feel involved in the process. 😊
@@edgydougthat’s great! Awesome to hear it’s working out for yah and when you use it.
@@amyjfarrellso glad you liked that! Definitely found it unique for sure.
Great video!! May I ask before print, no need to prepare Trapping or Holdback for all texts or images? Do u have any Trapping or Holdback tutorial? Thank you.
You dont say anything about actual ppi and effective ppi...and btw, we cant se anything on the screen for those numbers they are to small on Youtbe. So if you dont talk about them, we wont know. Everyone says it's the effective ppi that should be at 300 not the actual ppi. But after you relink the images and resize them in photoshop, you never mention their effective ppi... ? And the print ready file checklist only says '300 ppi image'. It wont mention the difference with actual ppi and effective ppi...
Hi, great video!!! It should be simple but I have got a puzzle here... I am making a design for a t-shirt. 4500x5100 pixels. I had an image from mid journey that is not high enough in resolution. So I used an AI upscale, to 22272x29568. Should be good enough! I then resized that image in photoshop to 4500x5974 (because of its different shape, I would crop later). Saved it. In indesign created a document of 4500x5100 with small margins, placed the image but it shows very small. The actual ppi is 300 and the effective ppi is also 300. But the image does NOT fill the size of the frame. in the transform panel it shows 100% for both the width and height but at 1080x1433 even if I did save the image from photoshop at 4500x5974. I did check the resample box, selected the resolution 300 and then clicked the chain link to unlink and rewrite the right dimensions to keep the resolution of 300... before saving the image! I thought that in Indesign it would be directly the same size as the document given the same dimensions or almost of both. it seems that my image should be slightly larger than the frame actually... But now I'm not sure anymore. I tried fitting options; they all lower my effective ppi. when I try to resize the image, with fitting options or manually holding command shift it downgrades my effectif ppi. I can't find a video on youtube explaining why and how to fix this. Spent 3 h with GPt and still don't have a solution... I dont understand why in the transform it shows that the placed image is 1080x1433px (100% by 100%) when in the other section the dimensions show clearly 4500x5974px with actual ppi 300 and effective ppi 300. Why are the dimensions different? It should be simple. I set the right size in photoshop, save. Place that image in a document with the same size in indesign and bingo? Anyone know where is the problem and the solution that goes along with…? Thanks
Bạn có thể cho tôi biết tệp pdf ở đâu không? Tôi không thể tìm thấy nó.
Thank you for this video! It's so helpful and easy to understand. I have a question. Is it possible to have two "section" tittles on a page? Like the main chapter tittle and name of smaller sections within that chapter? I hope that makes sense...
I have 1000 single pages in a document. Can you tell me how to make only the odd pages have numbers on them... But the numbers on those odd pages should be 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, etc…. all the way to 500? What would be the easiest way to do this? I already know how to create a master page and format the page number as a “insert special character>marker>current page number”.
Is there a way to change the order of the page numbers? From ascending to descending? 🥺
How to do same for photoshop?
I only do this every few years, and I want to ensure I get it right! Thanks for the refresher!!!!! The printer is happy & I'm happy!
Great job! Ty!
I knew I could trust you when I spotted the Metroid game next to the craft beer book. Great video!
Καλημέρα Gabby από Ελλάδα... εξαιρετικό βίντεο! Με λίγα και απλά λόγια εξήγησες το θέμα... Μπράβο σου!!! ❤
Thank You ! Saved my day !
big love for you
Hi, I am thankful to find you today... how can I export two artboards that will be printed separately, however will be placed on the wall together to look as one.
This guy a certified jack A$$ , is SCAMTONE still holding colors hostage in 2024?
This is great thanks for this. Is there a way to keep the CMYK color space? it looks like using "export for screens" changes it to RGB.
Hey heyyyy! hmmmm that's interesting. As long as your file color mode starts in CMYK it keeps it in CMYK every time I've done tests and checked it. I've tested where I check the PDF using color separations in Acrobat and all the color levels show 100% CMYK and stay accurate for me.
Thank you guys! Love watching these! 🙌🔥😉
So glad you enjoyed it! We're trying to line a few more of them up. So fun to see how different designers interpret the brief!
thank you
You're so welcome! Glad I could help
Thank you! Fast and straightforward as we love it

IM A SUPER FAN!!! LOVE YOUR STUFF!!! ❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉
whoop whoop yayyyyy! 🪭
Really enjoyed this as a designer and look forward to more of the series. The "punch" sound hurts the ears while I'm trying to work.
thanks for the feedback! We'll try and make that sound a bit softer in future
This video is so underrated. Every list for designers is so generic and boring, whereas it's taking so much willpower not to buy everything on here! Great job :)
Amazinggggg Phew, I'm so glad you liked our choices.
do explain how to use fiery software in your course? i was wondering if you ever use that all... im also wanting learn about graphics design for things like brochures and business cards and things of that nature...
Hey, so sorry for the late reply here! So we don't talk about fiery in the course because designers don't really need to use it since the print shops take care of that process when they print your piece. - Now learning about the steps to correctly design brochures and business cards for print, that's we teach for sure! www.printdesignacademy.com/trial <----There's a 7day trial too that you can take a look at! 😉
I finally understand this, thank you
Awww yay!! So glad I could help If you're interested in more one-on-one support our Academy has a private community where I help everyone with print-related questions and file tips and tricks. There's a free trial too! 🤗 www.printdesignacademy.com/trial
Please explain the printing process of Absolut vodka label design
Hey there! Do you mean how they print directly onto the bottle? Or the little silver metallic label that they have on it.
Goooooood
Hi! I am working on a banner in Illustrator, but I have realised all my content is on the cutter layer and not the ARTWORK layer. Can I just move them to the ARTWORK layer?
Hey heyyy. Sorry getting to this a touch later, but yes! you can totally just move artwork in between layers. - First have a new layer that's going to be your CUT layer. - Then, you need to have the cut path/art selected (doesn't matter which layer it's on right now). - Next, you'll see in the layer panel on the very right there will be a little color square (the color matches the color of the current layer). That represents the selected artwork. - You can now literally click and drag that mini square to your new CUT layer and it'll move that selected artwork to the right spot! BAM Hope that makes sense!! hard to explain over comments. Also! We have a private community for our Academy and if you're interested. It's where all our members get direct access to my help with file questions and other print things. www.printdesignacademy.com/trial <--Free trial too! ☺️
great conversation!
Glad you enjoyed it!
this was exactly what I needed. Thanks.
You're most welcome! So glad we could help ya out. Such a neat lil work around.
Thats great info video though but when we are exporting or saving for print format aren't we supposed to curve all the fonts and share it with the printers? Coz everyone will not be having a fonts what we use for designing our collaterals and if we do not any of them copy the texts what we have put on that.
Yes! Absolutely need to make sure fonts are outlined or atleast supplied in a packaged file. Did you see this video in the series? I go into all the type do's + don'ts in this one >>>> th-cam.com/video/OznUO0A760A/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much for this series! It made it easier for me to understand
I'm so glad we could help out! We have a lot more in-depth goodies in our course and private community. There's a free trial too to check it out! 🤗 www.printdesignacademy.com/trial
I have a 15 pages, single page document. The problem with page numbering is it turns to 1 everytime after page 9. And thereafter every page number is 1. Any solution? Or, is it a bug with the software?
Hmmmmm sorry for the late reply on this one! It's hard to say without seeing it. And did you make sure that the box was wide enough that it's not just showing the 1 in the number 10, 11, 12, etc?
@@PrintDesignAcademy I tried every trick, including putting the page number middle of the page in 72 points...lol
This was fun, and educational! How often do you plan to do these live-design videos?
James is awesome. We are trying to do them a bit more regularly. Did you catch this one with Brad Stoneking? th-cam.com/video/tUp6LT0JiNk/w-d-xo.html
Feeling the second hand stress over here 😂 Nice work James! That change you made in the last 2 seconds to extend the gradient background made a big impact! 🙌 I love the barley & hops > sheep & crops concept
He did such a great job! Especially in the time crunch. Love to watch the process.
thank you so much for this great tutorial.
So glad we could help! 🤙
That was great fun to watch. I caught myself recommending a few things to James as though he could really hear me 🤣🤣🤣
haha totally! I'm like "put me in coach!" 👋
thank you for your help but still this is not really user friendly from Adobe.... why is it so complicated for them to fix that U_U
Yaaaaa it would be nice to have a built in option right?! But, it be what it be. Glad this was helpful nonetheless! ☺️
You deserve a lot of subscribers!!, your video is clear, easy to grasp and you helped me A LOT understanding parent pages, keep up the good work, you re amazing.
Aaahhhh! Gosh thank you so much for the feedback. Makes us so happy to hear when our content helps others.
Thanks James and Dave for this, it was super fun to watch. I was feeling the rush myself 😂 Hopefully you make this a series, looking forward to the next episode 🤘
Haha, loved it! 😁 Thank you, James!🙌 I love watching designers racing against the clock, I always learn so much. Great one, thank you, guys! 💜
Glad you enjoyed it! We are going to be uploading a few other design challenge 'victims' 😉 so be sure to subscribe
🤣The STRESS! Thanks so much for having me Dave. As punishing as that time constraint was, that was a lot of fun!
And you rocked it! Thanks for being brave enough to step up to the task!
great tutorial
The only thing I did not see is how to do crop and bleed in illustrator.
Are you prepping all the pages of the coloring book yourself or just sending the illustrations to another company for them to add to a design?
