Hey Jess! I enjoyed seeing the build pictures. Have you considered digging your beds deeper and having active composting to add winter heat? (Like lasagna or trench composting or something.) We got something similar to work with our chicken coop where we used deep litter composting (1-2ft deep of leaves and pine needles cuz that's what we had + chicken poop), and it kept the coop temperatures more stable. Then we cleaned it out for the outdoor spring garden or compost pile and put in whatever worked best for a summer floor. I'm pretty sure others have tried active compost in greenhouses to generate winter heat, so should be literature somewhere. Thanks again for sharing your process!😊
Hey Nik! I haven’t tried active composting nor making a hotbed in the greenhouse yet - although I’ve done a lot of reading about them. Most literature wants livestock manure of some kind in the mix and it’s not something I have on site right now. I bet the heat of decomposition from composting plant and food waste would also generate heat - I just haven’t tried it yet! It’s a great idea and I’m so glad it helped in your coop!
❤❤🎉

It's working really well so far! Hopefully this winter is more mild than last year!
Good morning Jess from our Zone 4B in New Hampshire. Your green house is what I am leaning toward. We have a small green house of poly that works well, only because we have multiple gardens and can stagger harvests. I do start plants indoors. It must be so satisfying for you to be able to work in your sheltered space. I was hoping to have a greenhouse similar to yours off the closed in back porch we hope to build. At my age, I would enjoy going out the kitchen back door, onto a closed porch that led into a greenhouse. Like you I don't like to be blown away when I open the back door! ~ Diane
Hey Diane! Staggering the harvests is such a fun skill to have in your tool belt! Having a greenhouse right up next to the kitchen sounds ideal to me! For me, the way my house is situated, I wouldn't get any sun if I connected them that way though. I hope your situation is more favorable!
Very very good jee video 👍
Thank you! That's so nice of you!
@@JessoftheNorth how are you doing so nice of you to
Amazing 😍🤩🎉
Thank you so much! I'm glad you stopped by to check it out! 🥰
Hello Jess from New Hampshire. It is good to see a pantry for two people. There are three of us on our family farm. My husband and I built our home at the base of the farm in 2016. It was designed for farm cooking/ canning/ freezing and dehydrating. We have two freezers and a basement pantry like yours. We shut the farm down to the public in March 2020 and I began prepping the upstairs dry pantry. Now we have all the basics for quite a while. My brother-in-law lives at the main farm. He is often included in sharing our foods reserves, especially dinners. We still remain fairly isolated with so many viruses still circulating. It is a haven for us to enjoy the peace and quiet of small town living in Central Lakes Region. I do not do social media, but if yo have an email address I would be glad to send photos of our working farm. Grass fed beef/commercial hay/ commercial logging. All the best ~ Diane
Hi Diane! I think it's lovely that you have such beautiful haven from the world on your farm! I'd love to see photos of your working farm at jessofthenorthgardening at gmail. I really enjoying seeing what others have created and learning from their experiences. :)
