The video makes it look like the tedder is spinning backwards :) I felt ambitious and knocked down 20 acres of hay. Fluffing up and spreading out the fields that are mostly clover so they dry completely.

The 170 is earning its keep!
Love the 170 working. The elevator weight was a good solution. Look forward to your combining oats video.
What's a vacation?
It's one of those things you can do after you quit milking cows :)
You couldnt heat the bolts cherry red....allow to cool........heat cherry read.......allow to cool...... and then try taking the bolts out ? Most times there is no need for an impact wrench if they are heated a few times. So...... again...why not remove the belts first.....much easier to work on a baler !
The belts weren't impeding me in any way.
What on earth did you use to cut this patch ???? Two foot long stems in the field after cutting it ???? Might consider taking the bales off.........the recutting it again ! Not joking !
Apparently you've never mowed red clover that's gone down.
@@farmerpete As an old dairy farmer... milked cows for 45 years......Im familiar with most crops of hay ..oats.....sorghum sedan grass ..switch grass.......and any other things a farm can grow. Sickle mower ( with the wind row bars/ cradle ) ..hay bine (New Holland 489.. 90% of the farmers forgot to take the shims out of between the rolls........making it a sickle mower " yet " ) and a disc bine. Wind and hail tattered hay...... but it is true.....sometimes double cutting is warranted .
Ive repaired shafts like this too.... use the end bolt and put it in the drill to turn it. Use the bearing ( clamped in a vice) that you get new...to hold the shaft to turn it with the drill... spin it slowly as your grind it. Just like a lathe
Why not just remove the belts ? I think much quicker.
Removing the belts wouldn't have gained me anything. Working by myself I still needed the cradle to hold the roller anyway.
@@farmerpete Just from what I seen.....and what you say........ the belts were creating problems....since you stated the cradle was to hold the belts up. And at 7:21 Seems your having to fight with the belts to get the roll in. The cradle worked to hold the roll up....but in the time it took to move the belt around you could have removed them. Giving lots more space to work with ease. Im very familiar with these balers...... when working on front and top rolls..... belt removal makes life a lot easier ! However.......Im also familiar with a few neighbors here..... that fight just to remove belts. They cant get the splice cores / rods out. Therefore its the last thing they will consider.......removing belts ! But its only my experience and view.
Pete, that was some excellent video editing Of you laying those round bells out in 2 rows side by side. Exceedingly, well done, my friend. I hope you and your wife enjoy your vacation. Come back safe. God bless the two of you. 🙂🙏🙂
Thank you SBF!
Great to see the 170 working. I am close to putting the motor back in my 170. I am glad you did your series of videos on your 170. They have been helpful to me in my repairs.
I'm glad you found the videos helpful. The 170 is a mighty handy tractor.
G day Pete Yes we have very wet weather up here. 4 ins plus. Have good trip THs
That's a lot of rain! Thanks Don!
Sounds good Pete have a good time on vacation!!😊
Thank you!
Have fun on your vacation Pete, You guys deserve it ! Sunday I helped Jacob bale some hay, No rain they say till after 6pm and at 3pm we got soaked ! LOL Never fails ! Bandit
Thanks Bandit! I did watch a shower slide off just to the west of me while baling one day. My luck held though.
Have a great vacation pete
Thank you!
Thanks for the update Pete, looks like the 170 is doing a great job. I hope you guys have a great vacation and hopefully wherever you are going it won’t be too hot 🥵
Thank you!
Looks good - have a great vacation…👍
Thank you!
Have fun in Margaritaville !
Thank you!
Thanks Pete. Have a good time on your vacation.
Thank you!
The IH weight looks just like the one I had on the front of my 180, worked fine. Enjoy your vacation 👍
Thanks! The 170 is a little light in the front for this job without it.
You two enjoy your vacation
Thank you!
At first I thought you were putting bales side by side so you could pick up two- I was waiting for a wheelie LOL Have a good vacation!!
That would have produced a wheelie all right! Thanks Chris!
Thanks for the video Pete. My John Deere backhoe needs a new water pump due to a worn bearing. Not as bad as yours but enough to rock the fan from side to side quite a bit. At $500 to over $900 for a new pump, based on whether it is aftermarket or OE, and the rebuild kit in the $60 range, I am going to rebuild mine. I have a hydraulic press, so there is half the battle. It's always good to see someone else go thru the process, because, as you've said, there aren't any directions. Hopefully, by catching the problem before my impellor gets ruined, I'll be able to measure the clearance and know how far to press it on.
I'm glad you found this helpful. Good luck rebuilding your water pump!
Atta boy Pete - Get it done!
Hay looks good Pete, I hope you got it done without any problems 👍
I know that feeling, hope it went well Mr Pete!! 😁😁🤞🏻🤞🏻
Welcome to the 21st century. With your battery, powered impact wrench. Good choice on staying with the battery that you already have, and Dewalt makes a great tool. 🙂🙏🙂
Thank you! I like it a lot so far. When I pick it up it feels like something substantial.
Measure twice, suffer once! Well done, Pete!
Thank you Deb.
You should of just heated them a little with a tourch it's the out side of bolt heads that hold
I did heat them some, access is pretty crappy. Turned out they had some serious thread locker on them that didn’t let go until I could put heat directly on the shafts.
This is what I suggested too.......not a little heat........ a lot of heat ! Cherry red ! If you have access with a wrench you have access with a torch ! Heating a bolt..... turn it cherry red.......hold the heat steady..... keeping it cherry red for a few minutes.. the heat will travel down the bolt breaking the rust / lock tight and it will come out. Takes time !
After you change a flat tire with that impact your life is changed forever…
I believe it.
Nice work. Looking back at some other repair videos on this baler, it looks like you’ve done a fairly extensive renew on the Vermeer. I’m thinking about a stem to stern rebuild on my JD round baler so these videos give me a feel for how far one might go with a refurb before moving on to another baler. I should think the bearings, roller, sprockets and chains pretty much have this baler in near like new condition with many more years of dependable service out of it for a fraction of the price of a new or late model used baler.
Thank you. I’m glad you find some of this helpful. Over the years this baler has been pretty reliable but moving parts wear out eventually. I think it’s up in pretty good shape now.
Always good to see you post. In the words of SMA, if I can do it, you can do it. Does not apply here. You are a force when it comes to getting it done. I couldn't even come close. Great job Pete.
Thank you for the kind words.
Dont look like fun, but gladd you are getting it done. You are better than geico and save a bunch of money DIY.
Thanks! It helps to be cheap and stubborn 😁
Great job Pete I have a Vermeer bailer also I’ve been in the same deal before it’s not eeevveeepeeseee! 🤣😂
Thanks! Well, those back ones are easier compared to the others 😁
Man yeah, I know you probably care not too, but I could watch you work in things all day!! Genius the way you figure things out working alone!! I love that impact, need to upgrade to something similar myself!! Boy I would have thrown in the towel on that one, well done Mr Pete 👌🏻😁 Looking fwd to seeing it back out in the field!! I bet those bolts got some anti-seize!! 😉😉👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻😁😁
Thanks Nelson! I credit my German mechanical mind 🙂 The DeWalt is a beast. I like it so far. I figure those bearings lasted 25 years. If these go 25 years it won't be me changing them.
@@farmerpete 😁😁😉😉
That turned in to one heck of a project! Rusty bolts is a top pet peeve of mine. Nice work!!
Thanks Chris! It did turn into an epic struggle.
The twisted allen was a confirmation of a strong DeWalt choice!
The DeWalt is a beast!
Its called neglect on the part of the user. Heating the bolt two or three times (cherry red) ..... it would not twist off !
Thanks for the update Pete, it’s amazing what an army of one can accomplish.👍 Hey Pete just wondering if you all have had a problem with flooding like parts of South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota? Take care and stay safe.
Thanks! No serious flooding issues near me. The Mississippi is experiencing some moderate flooding, I’m about 12 miles from the big river.
@@farmerpete Glad to hear that 👍
thank u very much for the video,i have done all the things that u did in the video but my hydraulic steering does work anyways, i have a brand new steering pump and its very hard to turn the steering, can u tell me a suggestion please?thank u
Those discs look alot like Allis Chalmers which are Yetters.
The Ol' Ford sounds pretty good. You've got that field looking like a shag carpet in a '70s living room. LOL. Keep up the good work there. ROCK ON FARMER PETE!!!!
Thanks Ron!
The Ford 200 is sounding pretty good. Tedder seems to be working well, too. I'll be tedding hay in about 2 days. Got some timothy to knock down.
Thanks Charley! Hope you're getting your hay up ok.
She sounds good Pete! Looks like a nice hay crop too.
Thanks Chris! Much better crop than last year.
the old ford sounding good
Thank you!
A 20-year review! Glad you didn't rush into it, Pete!
Had to get acquainted with it a bit.
Ford sounds great. Tedder doing a nice job and the hay looks great. That’s a good tractor-Tedder combo…👍
Yea. Loved those Fords 2, 3, & 5000 series growing up in the 70-80,s. Sure do not build them like that anymore. Nice vid. Thank you Farmer Pete.
They were indeed good little tractors. Thanks!
Good day Pete Looks & sounds good. How is it on fuel compared to H Thanks
Hi Don! My impression is that it uses a bit more fuel than the H. Of course the H is pretty stingy on gas.
Nice job on that forgotten Ford
Thank you.
You need an umbrella for the ford too.
I think you might be right.
