Thanks for the video Pete. My John Deere backhoe needs a new water pump due to a worn bearing. Not as bad as yours but enough to rock the fan from side to side quite a bit. At $500 to over $900 for a new pump, based on whether it is aftermarket or OE, and the rebuild kit in the $60 range, I am going to rebuild mine. I have a hydraulic press, so there is half the battle. It's always good to see someone else go thru the process, because, as you've said, there aren't any directions. Hopefully, by catching the problem before my impellor gets ruined, I'll be able to measure the clearance and know how far to press it on.

Glad you found a kit for it Pete!! So many parts for old and new equipment aren't available now days.. Clearance is important, has to just clear to pump efficiently... No leaks, not overheating, a little more shelled out, that's a win!
Sadly, JD is no different than any other.. so many parts are no longer available. But most older stuff, there's aftermarket available. A friend of mine bought a brand new big articulated four-wheel drive JD a couple of years ago. The injector pump went out after just a few hours.. never even got it's first oil change. Last I knew, he's still farming around it. $500,000+++ tractor, as an obstacle in the middle of a field.. as they don't have parts for it. They sold the piece of 💩 he's stuck with it.
Water pumps for this engine in tractors seem to be available aftermarket. I'm guessing that if push came to shove I could drill and tap extra ports into a tractor water pump and make it work.
I changed the water pump in my JD 4400 about a month ago. Last year, it was not available, even aftermarket. This year, when the pump actually went bad, I searched the casting number and found one aftermarket that was a direct replacement for mine. Don't understand why it was not available, but now is. @@farmerpete
