SMB needs acidic medium to release SO2 gas (where the reducing effect comes from) So it won't work. But ascorbic acid at high pH (raising to 14) and boiling temperature will reduce the gold to metallic state.

You mean Jin chan? Chinese lixiviant. It's a modified cyanide based compound which reduced its toxicity . And increased its selectivity for gold. To define it in a simple way. A ring (like benzene ring) ring added in its structure.

Heating is just a necessary factor but it's not sufficient. Oxygen is also needed, when you smelt sulfides you don't have enough surface area to oxidize it, that is why roasting is necessary prior to smelting. Or adding nitrates to provide oxygen internally .
