It all started with a crazy idea: Let’s brew beer from glacier ice. We hiked up to one of the most impressive glaciers of Northern Norway. By filming this trip with our mobile phones we came up with creating the TH-cam channel North & Beyond. Our goal: We want to show you, what you can do out of the ordinary when you visit Norway, Finland or Sweden. You will find so many possibilities in this unique nature, you just have to unleash the adventurer in you.

I’ve watched so many DIY saunas. I’ve noticed MAJOR difference between EU and U.S. builders. In majority of EU builders, like this video, there is absolutely nothing that could be called “INSULATION” around the walls, ceiling and the floor. On the other hand, all the U.S. builders exhaustively wrap the whole sauna with all different exotic insulation. I have a feeling that the American version is EXTREMELY overkill, believing air exchange between outside and inside walls is a ripoff. On the other hand, I think the EU version makes much more sense because the inside heat and water evaporation is much more overwhelming that makes absence of 100% insulation much more enjoyable sauna experience. I appreciate to know people’s thoughts on this.
I understand your point. We’ve been using this sauna for over three years, and we’ve never felt the need to insulate the walls. Even in windy conditions at -30 degrees Celsius, we’ve had no issues. It might be that our oven is a bit powerful for such a small space, which could be why we don’t miss the insulation. From my experience in Finland, the home of saunas, none of the outdoor saunas I encountered had insulation; they relied on thick wooden planks and a strong oven instead.

I love your videos and find them really motivating. I don't know how I stumbled upon your channel but the first video I watched was the one making the pizza oven from a shipwreck and I thought to myself "why would anyone put so much effort in something so pointless" (like making an oven from a shipwreck and placing it somewhere far away) and then it just clicked. Sometimes there's no point in doing stuff if it's fun. I would love to visit Norway and make a pizza in your oven just for the fun of it. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the great comment, by the way the pizza oven became by now quite an attraction here in Tromsø - many oudoor guys go there after skiing to bake their dinner :)
