Weaving Fabric From RARE Cotton | Acadian Brown Cotton
Join me as I weave fabric by hand with Acadian Brown Cotton yarn. Acadian Brown Cotton is an heirloom naturally brown cotton that has been passed down by generations of handweavers and spinners in the Acadiana region of Louisiana. Acadian Brown Cotton is produced in small batches and harvested by hand, making this a very rare and precious material. I'm so thrilled to be able to take part in this project and make fabric that will be cherished.

Crocheting AI Generated Patterns: Legend of Zelda Edition

Helllooo! I'm momentarily super addicted to the new Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. It's entirely consumed my life for the past week or so, so of course, I had to see if AI could handle generating Zelda crochet patterns. This time, I'm using Google Bard instead of ChatGPT in hopes that it would do a better job (it doesn't). I also crochet an actual human-designed pattern in this video to ...
Manifesting All the Fiber Arts Tools I Want and Can't Afford

Hey there! A few months ago I read (most of) Tim Ferriss's The 4-Hour Workweek, and as instructed I made a list of all the things I could possibly want to have or have accomplished. Helloooo! The video that I was planning to post this week was a miserable failure. Instead of wallowing in my sorrows, I decided to learn how to knit a hat on my Passap Duomatic 80 knitting machine. Love your videos (minus the support of a corporation that is founded on misogyny ). My stash is enhanced twice a year at a huge textile center garage sale in my area. The amount of yarn I have on hand is nuts. I knit, crochet and weave (floor, table, rigid heddle and inkle).

    I am feeling so dumb..Everything/everyone talks about tieing up the peddles. I have a 4 shaft table loom with little levers to raise shafts 1, 2, 3, & 4. I just don't know how to relate this. Help!! Old lady brain!!!

    • @darcyfabre
      @darcyfabre หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! For a table loom, you'll need to create something called a lift plan. For every treadle on the weaving draft, look up at the tie-up section and write down what shafts need to be raised for each treadle. That will be your lift plan. Say you're weaving a 2/2 twill and the treadling order is 1 2 3 4. The first treadle will lift shafts 1 and 2, so on a table loom you'll need to pull down those levers, then treadle 2 will lift shafts 2 and 3, so you'll pull those down, treadle 3 would do 3 and 4, and treadle 4 would lift 4 and 1. I see that Acton Creative has a video called "Read a weaving draft for table looms." I haven't watched it, but it may be useful. I hope this helps!

    Beautiful work! So on a massive loom like this, where you're not manually moving the shuttle but pulling a cord and letting the loom do it instead, how do you go about managing your selvedges? I have to guess that's one of the "many settings" you were talking about having to adjust?

    • @darcyfabre
      @darcyfabre หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep! The fly shuttle has a tension device that can be adjusted so that the yarn sits perfectly at the selvedge every time!

    Planning? Hah. I just warp, and go. Whatever comes out, is what comes out. Planning leads to stress. Stress leads to errors. Errors lead to an inferior product. Inferior products lead to less sales, and less sales means less weaving.

    I genuinely am curious why most fiber arts have such a preponderance of ugly craft works when to try to learn about them. I know this sounds mean, and thats not at all what I am intending. I think there's some kind of Internet effect with fiber arts which is just a bit different somehow. You can look for information about this or that sculpture technique or glasswork and ... Okay ... You're going to see lots of people showing off works which only their grandmother could love. But it won't take long to find a scholar talking about some extraordinarily beautiful or interesting museum piece. This just doesn't happen much with the fiber arts. Some of the best information I have found will have examples by this or that fiber artist and the best you can say about it aesthetically is that it has the quaint charming awkwardness of folk art. I find this very odd.

      Hi!! Thank you so much for your encouragement. I do really want to get back into making videos, but I feel out of practice and kind of afraid to start again. Isn't that silly? Is there anything specific that's intimidating you about weaving? I feel like winding the warp and threading is the hardest part! I'd love to hear what you need help with so I can be further motivated to make more videos. Wishing you all the best!
