Did you temporarily make these videos private? I looked for them one day and was sad they were missing! Whatever the case, let me once again express my gratitude for these vids. Thanks Jason!
Do you have any idea how freaking genius the drum part you made for this song is? It's probably one of my favorite drum lines ever, for real. This is too good!
I play guitar and bass, but this dude is one of my favorite musicians. He sounds exactly like himself, and there's no mistaking it. That's the epitome of artistry.
I love his style! Not only the way he interpret the riffs and string stuff, but the way he moves his arms and hands around the kit.
Que temazo la que me reparió
I love this.
I'm almost deaf to trebles thanks to a degenerative hearing condition. I was used to not hearing bips and other annoying sounds anymore. As i couldn't understand my wife clearly (she has a high pitch voice), i bought hearing aids and was sceptical. Then i heard Neurosis on a playlist in my car. And i heard the cymbals for the first time in years because of Jason Roeder technique on it. I didn't know how mucj i missed that sound. Since then, i train to recognise more sound from other drummers. But thanks to that kind of drums only videos, it makes it easier for me to train my hears. So thank you, Jason Roeder.
Next. No river to take me home. Please!!
🤘🤘🤘
Hope we'll see you and the rest of the guys again someday
I playing this fucking song every day ...! Thank you
Ok can u play it in 30 bpm now so i can learn it too ? Or at least post the music sheet ? Great work... excellent understanding of drums
Try playing the video at 1/2 speed!
You’re an amazing drummer man. I’m a drummer myself and I hope to get as nearly as good as you someday .
Hi Jason Im sure you get these questions all the time so please pay no mind if its annoying haha I was wondering if you could say agew words about your drum sound on recordings. I absolutely adore it, particularly the kick. But overall just the breathing room the kit has sounds so wide and open, its like a dream. Im struggling with drum mixing tutorials encouraging to mix very processed and tight. Not a sound i am enjoying. Also, what size kick do you use and how to you get it to sound so great? Thanks for reading. I saw you play in Auckland and it was an incredible moment in my life. Been listening for nearly 20 years. Thanks for your contribution to music.

Hallo Jason. This is a call in the Ether. As a fan since “Through Silver In Blood” I've always loved your drumming. But as a guitarist I never dug deeper into your gear. But since I started doing more home recording and now also trying to get into drums, I wanted to get behind the secrets of your sound. Especially the sound of your Hi-Hat is so damn good and completly outstanding. Because I found no information online I thought I give it a try on this way. I think you're completly underrated and I'm sad about what happend to you guys in the Neurosis camp. Greetings from Germany!
It is two Paiste 2002 series 18" Medium cymbals. Not really meant to be hi hats, but it works for me.
@@jason_roeder thank you for answering! I guess I'm not the first one who's saying: it's brillant!
The only time I ever got to see Neurosis live was when you played here in Louisville back in 2014. So I saw this title and did a double take heh. My daughter was the 9 year old in the front row headbanging her way thru the set for her first concert. :) These videos are great, seeing the songs from a different angle for sure.
GOAT <3
I am honored that I have been able to see you guys many times as well as meeting you all during the writing of this album when I lived in Oakland. I have been a fan from the beginning and it has been so fun and inspiring to watch you guys through all of the transitions. Side question, are you still biking in the Berkeley hills?
I’m super grateful for this 🙏
great
Excellent work sir. You continue to be a master at your craft.
fuckin amazing
Thank you Jason , cant' get enough of these videos.Hope you're doing well!
this kind of drumming man...
No critique from me, you rule.
Sleep's "Live at Third Man" is one of the best live albums ever ever. I probably listened to some part of it every single day last year. Amazing, inspiring work, all 3 of yous guys. Thanks for so much great music!
RIP Ikea Lappljung rug. Best drum rug ever made.
the Drums are so unique and deep, i love it !!!! For me you are one of the best, realy . Listen your music ( NEUROSIS) over 30 years. greetings from Germany ✌😁✌
I imagine you're quite busy, but I figured I'd ask. What is your approach to drum tuning and being able to cut through the mix in a band like this with such low-tuned and distorted, mid-forward instruments? I've done sound locally and I'd like to get better at communicating w/ drummers on how to work better together to achieve a better overall mix for everyone involved. Sounds great, lovely groove
Hi thanks for asking. Unfortunately most of what needs to happen to get a good stage mix happens in the practice room way before the gig. Find a mix of cymbals that have the bandwidth and projection to cut through, and play dynamically to match. Drum head selection, tuning, shell type etc has *some* effect but I think the important thing is to play appropriately. Loud guitars? Don't tap the drums. Don't be afraid to hit them hard and make it loud to match. Don't make the FOH tech struggle to gain up the drums into feedback just to be heard. I compare it to a vehicle - a sports car is nimble and quick but can't carry much. A truck can carry a heavy load but is not as nimble and quick. In some cases you have to be the truck. It sounds corny but heavy music needs heavy drums. In the mean time? You have to tell the bass and guitars to pull down the stage volume slightly until the drummer figures out how to cut through. All that being said... I use double ply batter heads tuned low, single ply resonants tuned a little higher until they sustain well. Snare is cranked until it sings but not so high that it chokes out. Birch shells for tighter, punchier projection (maple is prettier sounding but it doesn't punch the same way). Tenor marching sticks with a barrel tip for more "umph".
@@jason_roeder Thank you very much for taking the time to give such a thoughtful and nuanced response. There's some great information here, and I'll be sure to keep it in mind moving forward. Hope to see you and the rest of the guys at a Sleep show one of these days. Have a lovely day.
@@jason_roeder I didn't know i needed to read this! It is inspiring to see you engaging with the comment section on youtube. Thanks for that and for your music!🙏

Hell yeah! Hope you will upload more videos ❤

Come to Brazil again.
We need new neurosis álbum.
Truly appreciate your videos man! You've inspired me to pick up drumming in a serious manner after almost 20 years of playing guitar and bass. Thanks for the tunes and endless inspiration!
That's super cool. I hope to one day approach drumming in a serious manner as well. Hope that goes well for you.
Your right hand is my obsession :) amazing.
The man! Love your work Jason, thanks for these videos - feels like the closest i'll ever get to seeing Neurosis live 🥲
Unreal! You're a beast man
such a unique style been my favorite drummer for decades now
We truly appreciate your uploads. Your drums cams are awesome and shows what an amazing talent you have.
So awesome to see these live drum cam clips! By far one of my all time favorite drummers. Love the energy and how you make the most out of what seema like a small kit there. Every time i listen to neurosis or see you all live it sounds like way more, or 2 kits ha. Best thing is im a huge fan, and bonding with my 16 yr old son who is drumming. Passing on these to him and turned him on to neurosis. Hope to see you around live so i can take him. 👊
I still can't believe i got to see you play live Sending love from Chile
These videos brought me so much joy when you started uploading them 3 years ago, I'm so glad that you're back. This is one of my favorite songs of yours when it comes to drumming. You've always impressed me with your playing, both in Neurosis and Sleep, not to mention that out of all concerts I've been to, your drum sound has been unmatched as far as I'm concerned so watching you play live has always been such an amazing experience.
Man, you're sense of time gives me the stank face every time! 😆 Still the best gig I have ever been to was Neurosis at Tavastia Helsinki, thank you! ...and I have seen there also Magma and Killing Joke and that's a lot said...
fuck yeah!!!
Amazing!!
