BelaRUS not because of Russia but because of Kievan Rus/Ruthenia, so ByelaRusь (Беларусь = Бела Русь/Белая Русь) means "White Ruthenia", not "White Russia". So it's Belarus like "Byela-rusya", not like "Byela-rossiya". You're welcome!
