Describing a word like small is so awkward
Most important, grammar is quite similar. It's like Spanish and Portuguese: if you learn the little differences and swap words (sometimes, you only need to "adapt" them), you'll be able to speak. Probably, not like a native, but you'll manage to get around. Then, with some immersion, you'll learn to speak more fluently.
There is one feature of most Slavic languages that Croatian does not have. Most Slavic languages have forms of words, nouns, and adjectives, which to our ears sound like diminutives or like when speaking to a small child. Besides the fact that most languages sound much softer than ours, this feature further enhances that impression. For example, small is malenki in Russian, in Croatian is mali. That -enki ending leaves the impression of diminishing and gentleness. Big in Croatian is velik, but also golem, ogroman, divovski (from div in Croatian, giant), also gigantski. Bread in Croatian is kruh. Other Slavic languages use hleb/hljeb. It's unclear the origin of kruh in Croatian language. When Alex said jeb..., I understood him perfectly.
Bulgarian has ''мали'' (mali) as more of geographic or dialect form, although ''Мали'' (Mali) with capital letter means the country of Mali. For example we have small town in Western Bulgaria called ''Мали Върбовник'' (Mali Vărbovnik) and for Asia Minor we say ''Мала Азия'' (Mala Azija). But for that we say ''малък, малка, малко, малки'' (malăk, malka, malko, malki) and like in Russian we have ''мъничък, мъничка, мъничко, мънички'' (măničăk, mănička, măničko, mănički). Big is ''голям'' (goljam) but we have ''голем'' (golem) as dialect form, but what is interesting ''ja'' is kept in ''голям, голяма, голямо'' (goljam, goljama, goljamo) but in plural we change it to ''големи'' (golemi). ''Велик'' (Velik) is used as more likely ''great'' or ''really big'' and also it's a name of a person too. And we also have ''огромен'' (ogromen), ''грамаден'' (gramaden), ''гигантски'' (gigantski). Bulgarians are unique because we are the only ones which we say with ''ja'' instead of ''e, je, i, ji...'' like the rest. We say ''хляб'' (hljab) but in some dialects we have ''хлеб'' (hleb) like Serbian and ''леб'' (leb) like Macedonian. Although ''леб'' (leb) is usually pronounced like ''леп'' (lep) which for us is a dialect form of ''хубав'' (hubav) or ''убав'' (ubav) which is something nice, beautiful. For some reason we use the opposite form way more like ''нелеп'' (nelep). I feel like ''kruh'' came from Slovene since they were the first ones that used this word.

I don't understand why Russians and Serbians (mainly serbians) think they have some kind of "slavic" brotherhood on the internet. Bulgaria and Russia are the closest on the Balkans, the politics is the only problem here, we are very similar in many more ways than Serbians.
Защото това е политика. И понеже сме ,,предавали" руснаците, затова са по-настроени към сърбите по-добре от нас.

I liked when the polish girl said: We don't use cirillic alphabit, We use NORMAL alphabit.🤣😂😅 The Normal Alphabit is ć, ź, ś, ó, ę, ą, ł,
Hahah because for us it s normall but it s should be latin alphabet
In Serbia we also use ščćžđ but if we write scczd people will understand without problem also 😂
@srpskivitez6003 yess as a polish I love š č ć đ it s sounds like polish and I feel like home 🥰
When we first started using cell phones in Poland and we didn't have Polish letters, we wrote without diacritical marks (plus writing with Polish letters made SMS expensive). And because of the rule that not all machines use “Polish” diacritics, our Alert RCB (a system for notifying people of emergencies via SMS) writes Polish texts without diacritical marks (but this is only possible because we also use digraphs, so we really have more “ci” than “ć” in texts and they don't mix with “cz” or “c”). We have no problem reading Polish texts without diacritical marks (because some keyboards don't support “Polish”), but mixing words (some with diacritical marks plus some without) is just unthinkable.
@ А како кириллица брат?🙄🧐
«Голям» знакомое слово, знаю что твёрдый знак в болгарском произносится и называется ер голям (то есть большой ер, как в русском ь - ерь, ъ - еръ, ы - еры). Когда-то читал что похожее слово используется в каких-то региональных версиях русского в таком же значении, но в жизни не встречал, и этимолгию и родственных слов тоже не знаю.
Я однажды слышал слово голямый - долговязый. Про человека, у которого длинные и худые руки и ноги.
Крaкaто
ъ - ер голям (твёрдый знак - твърд знак) ь - ер малък (мягкий знак - мек знак)
Насчёт хлеба довольно просто было. Да и с размером если убрать непонятные " голяма" и " тази" ясно, о чём говорят.
Формата ,,тая'' вместо ,,таз', тази'' е по-близко до вашето ,,эта.''

Don't like to be that guy actually but bro i think you lack some general knowledge and that's what makes you jump into false assumptions all the time and simply struggle more than you probably should. At least it's more interesting that way, right?
Just imagine - You're Polish and you have to interprete between Lithuanian, who hate Russian language to Ukrainians, who hate Russian's as well. And you know only Polish, Russian, English. The Lithuanian guy doesn't speak English, but understaand Russian. Ukrainians despise Russian and their English is C+ at least. But I get it somewhow...
the hate is unsustainable even economically, let them pay for the added effort you perform then
It's probably some kind of brain disease when two people know the same language but refuse to speak it to each other and prefer to remain misunderstood.

As a Bulgarian, the Bulgarian girl described the word "small" in a confusing way that probably I wouldn't get the first time around so I can only imagine the hell that the other girls went through
I think the word is too abstract to explain it properly...

In Poland, no one says "map" otherwise than "mapa", but we use the term kartografia
In America, we call them liberals
😂
Why am I here?
The H shaming in Belarusian and Ukrainian was just a Russian way of making people speak Russian instead of their native language. The same was done in Poland during the Communist era with some dialects. Today they're all promoted and sometimes even recognised as separate languages. BTW We do have everything translated even though we have a lesser number of speakers in languages like Polish, Czech, Slovakian etc. I was very surprised when I first learned Ukrainians promoted Russian for such a long time for economical reasons. If you want to be independent from Russia you need to have an independent culture.
In Polish sibling is rodzeństwo. You can borrow from us. ;)
