Just an old guy who likes boats, boating, and wild places. I was once a geologist and have been to some interesting places, seen neat things, and have a love of old boats. Enjoy the journey as I learn about my new life adventures and share them with you. Best trip is the next trip!

Vintage 1965 Seaway Cruiser Powerboat
Here's a great little boat. A 31 ft 1965 Seaway Fishing Boat. This was built by legendary Bob Stapp here in Long Beach. He is best known for building fast Coast Guard and Fire department rescue boats. You may have seen the boats in the early years of the TV show "Baywatch".
It is powers by a single Cummings 6bt engine with a top speed of 23 kts and cruises nicely at 16 kts. It holds 200 gallons with a range of nearly 300 miles.

Marina 4th of July
มุมมอง 1236 หลายเดือนก่อน
#fun #parade #boating #4thofjuly The 4th of July Independence Day celebration is a pretty big event at the Marina. Boaters and friends descend upon the Marina to watch the City fireworks next to the Queen Mary. We have a dinghy parade with epic water fight. This year Uncle Sam and Lady Liberty appeared at the Parade. Of course, food, libations, and fun occur before the fireworks.
Fireboat!
มุมมอง 337 หลายเดือนก่อน
A City of Long Beach fireboat. Fireboats provide protection at the Port of Long Beach. Which along with the adjacent Port of Los Angeles forms one of the largest container ports in the world. This fireboat is about 100 ft long and can pump over 40,000 gallons per minute. The main pump can shoot over 500 ft distance and nearly 300 ft in the air. It's pretty cool to watch them test their pumps. T...
Endeavour 38 Center Cockpit Sailboat Tour
มุมมอง 9157 หลายเดือนก่อน
Here we are touring a 1985 Endeavour 38 center cockpit sailboat. Endeavour boat have a long standing following as the are popular cruising boats that are well built. This one came up for sale and has been sold. Overall it was in pretty good shape for the price that they were asking. It was recently repowered and had a new dinghy and outboard. I found the cockpit area very accommodating for a bo...

Boats Cheaper than an Auction?
มุมมอง 21K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
Boat auctions can be a great option to find great deals on boats but finding a neglected boat while it is still at the marina might be cheaper still. I tour around the marina looking at a couple of good looking sailboats boats before stumbling across a couple of neglected Hans Christian sailboats. These boats have an outstanding reputation. I point out what to look for in potentially sleuthing ...
Elizabeth Fell Overboard Off the Boat! Solo Man Overboard Drills on a Sailboat.

My buddy Dennis wanted to practice some boating skills the other day. Besides using the emergency tiller, we practiced man overboard drill with "Elizabeth" a big boat fender using the figure 8 technique. We practiced solo sailing as he is pretty new at it. Dennis's Boat is a 42ft Jenneau sailboat also seen in my deck core video.

Deep Sea Fishing off of Southern California
มุมมอง 464ปีที่แล้ว
Friends from the gangway get together to go deep sea fishing. We headed out of Long Beach, California to warmer waters further south. Offshore, we catch Dorado (Mahi Mahi), rockfish, and look for Blue Fin Tuna. The open ocean is a neat place to be.
My Life at the Marina.

#marina #sailing #boating #alternativeliving When I started boating, I was not sure what to expect in regards to the marina lifestyle. There, I found a wonderful community of boaters. Maybe I got lucky, but our gangway is a lot of fun. Here I present a kind of "year in life" along our dock. Though boats can take a bit of work, all work and no play would not be very fun. I revile what it is like...
Ham Radio: 160 m DX from Arizona.

#topband #gentlemansband #shortwave I was once very active in Ham (amateur) radio. I liked searching for distant stations or DX. My favorite frequencies to operate was the "tropical" bands and 160m. 160m also known as topband or the gentleman's band lies just above the AM radio frequency range. Perhaps some of you used to listen to far off AM stations at night. With 160m, every once in a while,...

King Tides and Tropical Storms: Life at the Edge of Land
Looks like a great, practical boat.
Thanks for sharing! I’m looking at doing a similar thing while in my slip at my marina and was looking for someone who had done something similar. I figured the only way I’d be able to get away with sanding while in the water was by hand, rather than with an orbital. Did you run into any issues with dust? And for the first sanding, pre-primer, how did you know you’d sanded it enough? I don’t want to overdo it. Thank you!
Worked in the edges with thickens epoxy and the type of epoxy we are using is polyester resin ?? I guess by now you figured out that you are talking kind of nonsense there. For a job like this you should only be using epoxy and not polyester.
Love the video👍, I tried to find the site 2 times with no luck. could you messege me with ordes of location i would appreciate. Thank you
Hey thats my boat!! As soon as i saw the panel i sat straight up lol. Good luck to ya!! My previous owner was a decent one luckily!!
Checking out marine storage yards and repair yards could also yield results.
You're showing one boat...they're bidding on a different boat... WTF???
You call it sentimental attachment; to anyone else it appears to be delusional ideation. Boats are depreciating assets, owners of neglected boats cannot conceive of this being true and expect to get a premium above the new purchase price for "originality" of condition.
I just purchased my first boat, a 1987 3297 - Carvers are good quality boats, correct?
great info, why not top up the filter with diesel so les air is needed to bleed....
Yes, I have done that before. Generally, I would add fuel by loosely putting the filter on and opening the fuel petcock, letting gravity do the work. But since I added the electric fuel pump, it does it for me. However, there are kits to use a spin on filter!
I like the ones look like pirate style 😂
Yes, the salty ones :)
Kettenburge were built for performance
#boats #powerbut #vintageboat Excellent !
❤❤EXCELLENT BOAT 🛥️ this vintage boat looks really neat !! A great boat review too !!✨✨👏👏👏
Why do all sailboats that look like a bygone era have to be fucking pirates. Pirates are not nor ever have been the paradigm of carefree. They have always been desperate, brutal, murderous scum. Only the lies of Hollywood make them seam enviable.
They’re cheap until you realize the tax liens included with them! And the state of California is the absolute worst for property taxes, even in the water 🤦🏻
You're right but recently they now have to disclose the tax lien amount at the auctions here in Long Beach.
Looks like you gotta test every single circuit one at a time.
Yup, process of elimination. Sometimes with old boats that have had a lot of wiring "upgrades" it's quicker to start all a new :/
Wouldn't own anything in CALIFORNIA though. F them taxes lol
Even a Mud tax on your slip! Prices are very high too. It's all referred to as "Sunshine Tax"
Go to Florida lol
Every one says these boats cost an arm and a leg... sorry but I've saved a neglected sailboat. Took a week or 2 of cleaning and a few hundred $ of materials to get it back on the water. If the boat is all there all it needs is cleaning and rebedding. You can sail.
Yeah, but it's not going to fly as a TH-cam channel.
Arm & leg!!! Is that why pirates have a hook and peg-leg :)
OH...I Gave You A Thumbs Up, ALSO!!
Wow, thanks

Great video love your narration very relaxing Taking wave runners there soon Can you rent e-bikes at twin Harbor ?
Good question, not sure. I know Avalon does. Have a great time!
Hmmm that boat looks familiar… may have to do an update video soon

Excellent guide. Thank you. I have fond memories of sailing dinghies here with my Dad.

❤🎉🎉🎉🤍💙 happy 4th of july month Captain Action !! Its always nice to see marina coastal life !! Id love to visit there during 4th of July !!
The one for sale in TX is not a center cockpit. Has a different interior.
Yes true, not many Endeavour 38's for sale at the time of the making of the video :)
@@CaptainAction great video - thank you
Heyy! Great Video ! Love your editing as always ! I have always seen those Korean hats but I don:t know anything about it ! Thank you for sharing !
Amazing again, Captain, as more people discover this lifestyle I think your channel is going to explode! Your quality of video echoes someone with a million followers. Are you going to the boat auction in LB this month?
Thanks for the kind words :) Yes, I was at the boat auction but only for a little bit as I had a sailing adventure that day too. Got to love the marina lifestyle :)
Incredible video! Exactly the area that I’m looking at. Thanks ❤
Check out my Alamitos Bay video too :)
👏👏👏👏⛵️
❤❤love this sailboat !!! ⛵️ I wish I had one !! 😍😍 fabulous lovely Sailboat !!! Great job !!
I want to sell mine. Anyone?
Great video. I'm afraid we might need to do this on our project sailboat sometime in the future.
BIg project but it's kind of like eating an elephant, one bite at a time and you'll be better than new!! Good luck with your Endeavor. Funny, I have an Endeavor 38 vid in the works. You're living the dream :) Thanks for the view
Cheaper to buy than rent and you get to keeper
Great video! Where can I find the map with the rock collecting areas?
They BLM website has a map of the location. Try BLM trilobite site. I'd also look at the USGS topo map and/or your satellite feature on your map app. for the dirt road as there are several in the area. Most will get you close to the location.
🌺🌺🌴 looks sooo fun I wanna go !!!!!!! 🌊
Very confusion as which boat being sold
We have a 1984 and love it.
You give me hope, Captain! Putting up a 1/4 wave Inv-L here in the Philippines later this year -- with plenty of radials in the rice paddy.
I am sure you'll be the envy of a lot of pile-ups!!!
So nice to see you are enjoying the boat. Just for the record I did not "back out". Rather the broker I had her listed with became a jerk and when he let the listing expire I simply did not re-new it. The contract had a 6 month "non-sell" clause, which I let run before selling her. Jim and Suzanne approach me and ask for the right of first refusal which I gave them. When the 6 month passed we got together and I sold them the boat. I liked that boat so much I bought it twice. And much to my good fortune the interim owner invested in some very good gear. I sailed her from Seattle to Long Beach heading for Mexico when Covid shut down everything. I thought we would be in So Cal for 2 months. It turned out to be two years, during which time the plan changed. The Hans Christian 33T is, in my opinion, the best all around sailboat under 40 feet for cruising. Those built from 1980 to 1987 were built by the Hansa yard perhaps the best of all the Far East builders of the era. Those built after 1987 are good boats but not of the same quality. Currently, I own a Contest 38s which is a high quality Dutch built boat. She faster than the HC33T but not as near livable; no stall shower and a smaller galley, but still comfortable. Thanks, Pete for the video. It was fun to watch.
Bob!!
A small fiberglass sailboat for cheap would be the way to go. Easy to tow; take it home to refurbish, and then launch/slip it in any decent size lake to learn how to sail it. Wind powered with perhaps only a small fuel-efficient or electric motor for maneuvering in port gives it some resilience to Bidenomics.
Totally on point for the small recreational sailor or someone just starting into the hobby. Depending on your geography, trailer able boats and even smaller boats are a great way to go. In many more rural marina settings too, haul out and being on the "hard" can allow refitting and storage for much less than a typical marina slip in an urban setting. this would be great in places where boating is seasonal.
Just so you know, south of San Juan river is tribal land and if you were to encounter a tribal tour while in the Chine Wash it could get pretty ugly. Be safe!
You're correct. I stated in the vid that we had permits from the Navajo Nation. Over the years we have encountered locals and even, back in the day, a Navajo Nation Ranger! A funny story on one trip, we had a few Navajo's on our trip. At the put in, Linda the BLM Ranger was checking trips in. I asked one of the Navajo ladies to start speaking Navajo to the questions as the ranger checked our trip in. The other boatmen and I laid low to watch the unfolding. The ranger had a bewildered look on her face and looked around. When she saw us, laughter ensued as she knew us from run trip before. Good times! I missed the river this spring, say "hi" to the river from me if you're on a trip in the near future 😀
