Thank you for sharing your Scottish adventures with us, we have LPG refillable bottles which means the gas is a lot lot cheaper than buying the 6kg bottles.. You had unfortunately come to Scotland when most of the tourist attractions are still closed, but if you came in the height of the summer, then you would have had to deal with the dreaded midges. So, it is a toss up, open attractions that you cant get to because of the midges or closed. Hope you enjoyed yourselves, looking forward to seeing the Japanese adventures. David and I enjoyed the east coast more, usually people just dash through the east coast cos there is nothing to see.. If you open your eyes you can see lots xx

Whilst RVs might have some advantages over van conversions, there are some big negatives.....most are not insulated well enough for when it gets really cold (and your experience with the amount of gas that you used shows this), many older campervans suffer from damp problems,, often the water tanks are small and you lose the advantages of being able to customize the design to your wishes.. You should try a Jacobite Cruises "Booze Cruise" next time LOL. Could be Tim is going to be busy with modifications when you get back LOL. We found the fridge was really had on gas since we went to 12v, however Lindsay has been known to go through a 13kg in a couple of days. We have refillable bottles which is cheaper LOL. That heater was old style ours is a Truma which heats water and blows air to provide heat. Our water tanks lie about levels. We have been exploring the "NC500" for 38yrs and still not done it all. Great tour and so glad you did it. The east side has a certain charm and we like it there too. The west has a sting in its tail and always catches you out. You never quite know what’s going to happen or what you will see. Looking forward to your Japanese experience 😃💙 Trev n Sue

Back from an unexpected trip, catching up. Many Historic Scotland castles are "temporarily" closed for maintenance for the last 2 years. The monument is on our to do as we did not reach it due to weather last time,

Defiantly the first time we've seen a no pooping sign 😅 castle looked lovely against the scenary there 😊 some lovely veiws there 😊

Castles are overrated lol …. As you say out of season has its disadvantages but glad you breached one of them 😂 Also they can be expensive another gripe I have but had you enjoyed the landscape

It's a fine line to walk isn't it.. Quiet roads but closed attractions. We'd still prefer the quiet roads to be honest. We drove the route in May and it was already tricky passing multiple vans on the narrow roads. 😊🐕🚙

So sad you paid to park at a castle that was closed! But the views everywhere were just spectacular! When I saw those arches near the last I thought what a beautiful place for a wedding! John and Tim favor amazingly- certainly see they are brothers. Loved his van, I'm glad he was ok being videoed, enjoyed seeing him. I am so enjoying this visit to Scotland. GBP 25 for that campsite at John 'o Groats seems very expensive....it did not look very special at all. I would have chosen to park the van somewhere instead of paying such a high price. Jerry

Visiting home in the off season is good for visiting people, places can be a different situation... But I generally like the less crowded times as well. I had to laugh at the sticker board.🤣
