My health & why stopped posting

Back at you with an update on everything. This is why I disapeared from social media in relative terms. It seems so strange to go from posting to TH-cam multiple times per week to how things are now and that goes for my main 'It's Jonny Keeley' channel too. Hopefully this makes a bit of sense.

The Best Landscape Photography Camera Bag Just Got Better!!
What time of the year did you go? We've got an upcoming trip at the beginning of November and I am just worried if we will have enough light during the day to see everything.
Well done Jonny, fantastic effort in getting the shot of Loch Coruisk, my first time there in 86, walking in from the Bothy with the clag down, was like walking into middle earth. A winter shot from there would be spectacular, tent or bivvy overnight i think, but it will be a cold one if you do with the snow down. Thanks for such a lovely vid, i felt your pain on the walk back to the van. Cheers.
Good shout not to go up Y Garn, but a good pull up Y Gribin mind you... How are you finding A7iV for landscape ? Flip screen option not on my D850, hence the review hunt on the Sony, cracking shot down the valley, Cheers from Anglesey
Hope you get better soon and can get back to what you love to do.
That’s my type of photography content. Calm and peaceful narrative. Btw great image of the Valley! I love the composing and overall look. Thank you for the input and best of luck in your journey
What a great tripod
I'm a concert photographer and it would be to get some more concert opportunities lol
Nice bag! Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful!
now i probably will be over spending ( i had a 200$ budget lol )
Don't think I'd drive 12 hours for a photo, but I'd sure plan a trip with a lot more stops and roll a whole bunch of things into the trip that enables that one spot.
The macros were beautiful, the message was motivating, the ad was subtle, and the style was gentle but with good pace - i felt some Jake Frew vibes :) subscribed.
Great video of your experience transitioning your skills from one genre to another.. Just started my journey into landscape photography & being guided by a seasoned professional. Such a lesson in taking your time to think about the composition.. 1st time using ND filters. Whole new ball game.. Cheers from Australia
Thanks for watching mate, glad you enjoyed good luck on your photography journey!
Just picked up this lens and I love it. What a new world of photos to take now. Also, now I'll have more photos than I know what to do with.
Hi I just ordered the A7IV. I am coming from a A7RII and now I am kind of scared I am gonna miss the megapixels. As long as I know you also came from the A7RII, maybe you can take my fear. Great Videos by the way.
I don't miss them, but I'm not a pixel peeper. In fact I would be quite happy using my A7siii at 12mp. I take a lot of photos so the file size is the biggest problem for me. A7IV was a perfect middle ground. I hope you enjoy it. You're going to love the better battery life, better EVF and form factor. The video is also a huge leap forward.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. 👍102
Great video Jonny, your honest style is very much a breath of fresh air. Living and working on Skye as a photographer, this is a location I have only been to a couple of times myself, and never come away with 'the' shot.
Thanks so much! Ah wow, what a dream to live up there. I’m already excited to go back!
Is the microphone under your coat? If so, it doesn’t seem to scrape or rustle
It has the wind guard on which helps with that, it’s just under my collar pressing into my throat.
Jonny, I am 1 year into a 2 year project to see if I can make it to be amateur landscape photographer. Your videos help
That's awesome Simon, I'm glad to hear it and good luck!
I was there about 4 weeks ago! Same route, too. I thought it was the prettiest spot I saw in 3 weeks of Scotland. Tough to find a composition hahah beautiful in all 360°. Edit- sun behind the clouds the entire time i was on the peak 😌
Was planning on Marsco, but the weather was actually decent enough to do a long day.
Oh wow, I bet you had an amazing time! Spoiler alert I'll probably make a video soon about how I didn't get the comp I wanted up there. *facepalm
I love the shotgun mic, but when do you use it? Mine has sat in my bag so many times, I don’t even bring it any more.
I use it a lot to be honest. I picked that one because it holds up well in the wind. To give an example, the entire Sgurr na stri video was shot on that mic but the Tryfan in the rain video a few months earlier was entirely DJI mic rain can be the biggest issue for that giant dead cat (the wind guard)
Wow, that's an impressive amount of gear you carry in your bag Johnny! It's fascinating to hear about all the different equipment you find useful for landscape photography and video making outdoors. The amount of planning and preparation that must go into your trips really shows.Great video!
Thanks loads Wendy.
They went by fast, but those sample photos with the 35mm were really nice
Thank you!
Extremely nice video. Very well done and very enjoyable.
Thanks so much Brad.
Great video Jonny! Love your insight on the gear and what you use it for. My camera bag has pretty much the same lenses minus the zoom!
That 35mm is such a great lens! Hope all's well buddy.
I have a rule that I don’t watch gear reviews or what’s in my bag videos. But I will IGNORE the rule once just to get you another view Jonny 🤙
Ha, I'm the same. The frustrating thing is that videos like this can trickle views endlessly which is great for building a channel. I will have to make more gear videos, but know that it's all to enable longer, more interesting adventure docs.
@@JonnyKeeleyPhoto it’s the nature of the game, have to play to be in it
My back hurts just watching this :)
Maybe I should have put this out before the Sguur na stri video so people could sympathise more :)
Huge respect Jonny! What a wonderful documentary of 'how I found and then go the shot'. I felt exhausted sitting here on the garden bench just watching you. This deserves a bigger audience than your 2.68k subscribers it's that good and is set up beautifully with your storytelling and imagery. Thank you for sharing with us.🙏🙏🙏
Thanks so much Mark, hopefully it will grow in views but unfortunately these kinds of videos don't get as many views as people aren't looking for them. I'm glad you found it though!
Great set up Jonny... and obviously your fit enough to carry it all - have you ever weighed out of curiosity? Oh ye, do you ever camp out at spots? regards Alan
Thanks Alan. I don't, yet. In fact I originally bought the Shimoda Action X70 to fit camping stuff in it but I never got around to it. Maybe that's something I can try late summer.
I wish shimoda made a longer version of their mirrorless core unit as an option. EDIT: They DO! I didn't know they did. Awesome.
Two together works really well for me in this setup.
Thanks for sharing your incredible story. I love this video, it reminds me of my younger years when I hiked the Swiss Alps... though not with a camera at the time, so all my 'pictures' are in my mind :)
Thank so much, that is an area I would love to visit one day. I see some great long runs on those trails.
Thanks for sharing, love the thought process you laid out so clearly in this video!
Thank you again!
Great Story and one view that's also been on my bucket list from Pre-Covid.
Thanks mark, it's well worth it!
The drone shot was really something else!
Thank you 🙏
That has happened to me often .... and I understand your feelings and frustration. A lot of people don't appreciate how hard it is to get a great landscape photo at the right place at the right time because many times things things just don't work out ..... especially in Scotland with the highly variable weather.
I'm glad you could relate. I think most people have had fails/disappointments like this.
Fabulous thought process and so similar to the philosophy I use in my photography ..... picturing the shot before you go and take it! And the additional bonus in being in my beautiful homeland of Scotland. Great work Jonny .... now off to watch some more of your videos to get more inspiration.
Thanks so much mate, if Scotland is your doorstep I'm very jealous!
Beautiful. Love the Isle of Skye, and that view of the Cullin Ridge is incredible.
Thanks loads man! Hopefully catch up soon.
Respect dude...that sounds like a hike I'd probably shy away from just based on it's length (I'm out of shape, lol)...but my god, what a spot! Being alone in places like that alone is crazy, almost indescribable. Those conditions, wow you lucked out with those God rays! The one of you standing there is 'epic'.
Thanks loads mate, that feeling of being up there will stick with me!
That was a really interesting film Jonny. Everything came together for you in the end and your effort was well worth it. Thanks for documenting the trip.
Thanks so much Richard 🙏
Excellent video, really enjoyed it and some great pictures
Stunning video and outstanding commentary. I love my photography and in years gone by before picking up a camera I would have been physically and mentally able to take on such walks. A truly inspiring and moving video. Thanks
Good stuff John, keep at it!
Wonderful video Brings back memories of my four hikes there. Glad you got some great lighting for your shots
That was one awesome study trip, Jonny, and it's enjoyable to see one of your videos again matey. Keep them coming when you can pal! Inspirational :)
Thanks mate 🙏
I felt that one Jonny, great journey, awesome locale and views. How sweet is that feeling 🤗 Brilliant video 🤙
I’ve just watched this too after your link on VERO, stunning 👌
@@markmcdonald8773 felt it was well worth the share 👍🏻 Nice one Mark
Thanks so much mate, I only just got to the responses on this one.
Amazing video and spot, and great storytelling as always! I am a hiking guide and hobby photographer, and I learned that distance and elevation gain are just numbers if not related to the weight to carry with you. But I also never thought too much about it, obviously until I learned it the hard way: delay, dehydration, excessive fatigue... If I can give some value to this comment: on a solitary place and hike you can leave weight (equipment, food/water, clothes...) in some hidden place just before the hard part starts. You pick it later when descending (set a reminder on the phone).
I would watch your videos even if you'd take photos with a potato. Love your attitude and storytelling! Keep it up! :)
Pure Art❤
What an adventure Jonny and that hike back in the dark will definitely stand you in good stead for the walk in during winter 🥶. The video evoked memories for myself when I climbed Sgurr Alasdair up The Great Stone Chute and the effort that took but the views were amazing as I looked across to where you were above Loch Coruisk, I can still remember the day as the midges were horrendous 🤣. The photos you got sooc were terrific the dynamic range of the rays and the shadows were vast and that showed your skill as a very good photographer, looking forward to seeing the edited images at some point.
Fantastic video. Thank you for sharing. 👍75
