You can go to the child one. For all the accents on the hat it will be the same. For the hat itself I would do one more row increase (2dc, dcx10) for a total of 72 dc. And I would add a row.

@@radhikabalasubramanian9799 It means that if you were using a 5MM/H hook, maybe try getting a 4.5mm/G hook. (the next size down)

Yes, you can take an I hook, and after the increase round of (2dc, dc x 9) you are going to work one more increase of (2dc, dc x 10) for a total of 72 dc. Do dark blue for rows 1-14, lighter color for rows 15-17. All accents can be worked the same with an I hook.

I would have to make another toddler size and measure. But for adults it’s about 36g. With one skein I can make a few hats

Ok so a few questions, are you using the same type of yarn? Sometimes the softer yarns tend to do this. Make sure you are following the increases and not counting the ch 2 as a stitch. So work your dc into the same ch2 st. If you are doing all of this, maybe you should try to work a round in between the increases. So for example get back down to the last row that it cups and then do an increase row, a dc in each st row, increase, dc in each st row. I hope this makes sense!!
