Fun Fact: Mia Sinclair Jenness did a play of "Matilda" right before being cast as Powder. So, it`s kinda a meta-reference to Powder, Caitlyn and Vi and Powder`s mom being the only blue-haired characters in the show.(Although Caitlyn`s father Tobias Kiramman has a few blue streaks under all the black and grey, he`s also voiced by Remy Hii, the same dude who voices Marcus.)

I played the videogame before I saw this show, and I forgot what the game made very clear to me. There are no happy endngs in Night City...I felt like an idiot for feeling dead insiide for 2 weeks after watching this anime. It was amazing, this show should receive some type of award.

also, I think the purpose of showing Ketil like this is to emphasize that the main sin that lies within cowardice is the lack of decision making. Ketil isn't proactively choosing his fate, he's reactively responding to whatever others are doing. we even see it in the scene with those two slave children... you can almost believe that Ketil is a victim here, more aligned with Arnheid, because he can't stand up to Thorgil. but the truth is that Ketil and Thorgil agree on what Ketil would have to do in order to fulfill his role here... it doesn't feel right to Ketil the way it does to Thorgil, but they do agree. which is why Ketil doesn't have the confidence to put his foot down and make decisions as the leader of his own land. this whole piece of the story is about the dangers of entitlement, but also about how much more leeway you have due to privilege. Gardar basically made one mistake that ruined his life... and while he did it with love in his heart, he was incorrect about the method by which to show his love to his family. he never really got a second chance, to go back and try to do it right. and in the end, this ambitious man was robbed of all choice in the matter. meanwhile you have a kid like Thorfinn, who figured out that war wasn't the correct path, but only by living through an entire childhood full of strife. and you have a kid like Olmar, who was shielded from the consequences of his hubris for such a long time... it's really only now that he might be tumbling to the idea that violence can only really be counted upon to beget pain. right now, Ketil feels entitled to everything he currently owns. but it's not like he was cultivating any of this for the sake of altruism. this was his cocoon... a way of giving himself everything that he wanted in life, including wealth, status, and even the gratitude of the slaves he magnanimously chose to free... at the price of his farm's expansion. but at the root of it all, Ketil is just flinching away from anything unpleasant in life, to the point where he's too fragile to look at a pair of suffering children, and decide to make their lives better. it would take at least enough fortitude to tell Thorgil to shove it... but no. Ketil flinches away from his son's judgement. that outweighs the need for compassion to him. and even his violent response to Arheid's escape attempt, or his violent response to Canute's plan to take his stuff... it's all just a reflex. he lashes out at whatever breaks open the cocoon he's wrapped himself in, like a threatened animal. there is no true decision making going on here. and that's also an incredibly convenient excuse. no matter what... Ketil can say that he just acted without thinking, or he never had a choice. meanwhile Thorfinn, even as a slave, still understands that it is within his power to choose peace on purpose... at least to the best of his ability.

Ketil going full paranoid is kinda scary, like it didn't took that much for him to go from a normal guy to straight up beating a pregnant woman with a stick

I just came across this video at random, but I want to extend whatever comfort I can to you... losing someone is really really hard. when I was a kid, my family lost one of my cousins, who was even younger than I was at the time. he was like a brother to me... it changed everything. so for me, this hit hard too... just any story about that familial separation and longing. I also think an event like that has changed my perspective on this show. I remember having to parse out the same sorts of grieving feelings as Thorfinn when I was a kid... not in the same context, but it was a lot of useless anger at nothing. and then coming to the conclusion that, for as bad as this all felt... nobody deserved to feel that way, if it could be helped. and if it couldn't be helped... if life just hurts, because it has to sometimes... then it's up to people to be there for each other, and consciously decide to put good into the world on purpose, however they can, as a counterbalance. every person on earth has the power to do that. so, having come to conclusions like those on my own, and after years of galvanizing that opinion as I admittedly struggled to become a more mature person over time... watching Thorfinn on screen, saying things I'd thought before... this show is everything to me. I think sometimes we need reflections of these things in art, just to show us that we aren't alone in our feelings of grief or love.

Thorfinn forgiving himself in EP9 and EP17 are both some of my favorite episodes of anything I have ever watched. Both wrecked me. And then EP18 makes me feel the most uncomfortable I've felt watching anime... God this show is peak.

In game, Scanlan did have healing because Bards can heal, at least to a degree. Clerics, Paladins, Druids, Bards, and, I believe Rangers all have access to, at least, some healing magic. We did see a glimpse of that back in season 1 when Scanlan helped heal Keyleth.

This was actually a deviation from the game. In the game, the challenge was to figure out his name, so when Kam just introduced himself here, it surprised a lot of OG Critters.

We heard the deal Vax made, in the temple: "Take me instead you Raven bitch!" And we saw the Matron see him, consider, and accept. The full nature of his debt hasn't been explored yet, but we saw the deal. You have seen the woman with the mechanical hand and the scrying ball before. Last season :)

Ayee! Canute is looking really deadly here! The Curse Of The Crown is one of my favorite thing in the series! There’s so many different quotes that Sweyn says that are so accurate, I love this so much! Like you said Canute is walking a very dark path!! The path of bones!

Yeah I’m really torn on how to view Canute’s actions here. Like, I do get his justification in having one crown to avoid future war and to bring stability. But did he HAVE to kill his brother to do that? Did he explore all other peaceful political processes? I guess I want to believe he’s still without ambition and still fully striving for his vision untainted. But it makes it hard to believe there isn’t SOME ambition there. Such good character writing!!

Talk about complete opposite character development to Thorfinn. Poisoning your brother who's kind to you is evil. No sugar coating it. Canute is going towards a very dark path and I'm kinda disappointed, but damn is it amazing writing. And I agree. EP9 is one of the best episodes of anything I ever watched. You've got to live through some things in your life to understand it, but not all people do. Fortunately honestly.

The Matron of Ravens is the goddess of death and fate in this world, so Vax seeing her in previous episodes kind of suggests that she knew his fate would tie him to her (because goddess of fate). Vex's main two lines in Trinket's backstory "Sometimes we need to embrace what's in front of us. Not fight it." and "Whatever happens. It's out of our control" are kind of key here. You cannot be a champion of the Goddess of Death and Fate if you refuse to accept death/fate or fear death/fate. As to what exactly that means, even Vax doesn't know at this point (as he told Vex at the end there).

The creature they fight is a "Totally Not a Beholder for Legal Reasons." The art team refers to it as a "Onlooker."
