Spells triggering Herald of Ice/Thunder - PoE 2
Interesting, yes. Useful, probably not? Currently I think it is likely too difficult to get a martial weapon that benefits spells enough to justify something silly like this.
Only use case I can think of is maybe widowhail with + proj levels a lot of flat and corrupted 20-30% damage enchant but even then you would probably still need tons of flat elsewhere to actually make the herald's useful at helping your clear. I assume this is just one of those wait until we have more tools to use things. Like, imagine if we had access to a battlemage effect

From the sounds of the video this won't work for lightning arrow with a +3 quiver... but POB seems to show the damage being insanely high. Think I might try it and see.
@@exiled1gaming oh it still works for attack skills like LA. +Levels are still good for attacks they are just much better for spells. +1 level is usually around 15-20% more damage for spells and about 5-8% more for attacks

@@danzdor yeah pretty much has to be something right side of the tree for enough evasion. Shame the other reduced duration cluster is so far away. Earthquake or grenades have the most synergy with this but the pathing on that would be near impossible

Molten blast is fun but the forced movement is really punishing when you get to higher maps
I had an int stacking gemling with howas (original I know) and lightning infused molten blast with that mace. It was good but you do so much less damage if you’re not in the forking range and the forced movement constantly makes you break your dps or lower it by continuing to move forward

Its so cool to see how many people independently came to the conclusion that deadeye mace is awesome. I started building it to see how 90% eva and 75% block worked together, but realized that molten blast is awesome (ignoring the wack single target) That ice wall tech is badass. Im stealing that
Molten blast is seriously fun. I will say the ice wall tech did not go as well as planned. Around when I got to t15s I just kept blowing them up way to fast (I even annointed ice walls for more life on it). I could see it being better to trigger with Cast on shock or something You can use tempest bell for the same use case it is just more annoying since you need to strike 3-4 times first with your off hand
Your crit chance is way too low it seems
Nah, my crit chance was super high. Before this patch went out I would trigger multiple comets on every white pack. The issue was the energy changes with that patch made it so the damage of the hit mattered for how much energy you got which made skills like eye of winter really bad for enabling CoC since it is a bunch of low damage hits. This kind of setup doesn't really work anymore outside of boss fights (since you get like 20 energy pet hit there). You need your CoC enabler to actually hit reasonably hard if you want to trigger it on white mobs.
if they havent fixed the herald weaponswap bug yet, then it could be quite usefull with that!

Very likely unintended and will see a nerf. I have little doubts. Cool find!
Why would it be unintended? Voltaic & Freezing Marks are spells but they do their own attack damage (which triggers heralds). If these marks are socketed into Meta gems, it shouldn't matter what ends up triggering those Meta gems, be it spell or attack. It's hard to scale heralds' damage if going for spells anyway, but the marks' novas can be a supplemental clear tech for builds using spells (since they use their own attack damage and not your weapon damage).
@@KirbyzaGamer I'm not a dev, I can't answer, but I am betting on it being changed in the near future. If not then cool. I don't really care I just felt like making others aware of that (likely) possibility.

Like I said in the description idk how practical this is currently since we don't have many martial weapons that can function as good attack weapons and good spell weapons (maybe just widowhail) Mostly just something cool to keep in mind if we do get something like battlemage or just weapon mods that work for attacks and spells etc.

Lol sorry it was a super short video I literally explained nothing. spell shocks enemy -> spell triggers voltaxic mark which is an attack -> you kill the enemy that was marked which triggers the nova effect on voltaxic mark -> voltaxic mark kills something and shatters it -> triggers herald of ice

Tying spells to weapons is the worst change from poe1 to 2. I have a feeling even when the other 5 classes come out build diversity is still gonna suck. The trees don’t support it much at all, ESPECIALLY in the warrior section. I’m playing a fire/physical spell sorc: spells take forever to cast and damage is just so weak. 😂😅😢❤
@@short9435 same! I think it is probably one of if not my leave favorite change. It seems like even things like traps/mines are going to be weapon restricted based on them having their own weapon type. Only hope is that they will walk back some of the weapons restrictions or just that it gets more tolerable with more weapon types

Having spells locked to weapons also sucks a lot. Half of the interactions also seem to be intentionally broken or counterintuitive. like hexblast only removing one curse (despite the video for the spell saying otherwise). Blasphemy not working with the dot support. so on.
Panzerfaust has a sick build utilizing this tech to the max. It's great looking tbh!

have you tried seeing if this works with hand of chayula proccing impending doom/runic inscription? I believe those are triggered spells from the hand of chayula so Idt itll work.
I haven't but I dont think it would. Seems like it doesn't let you curse the wall or apply ailments. I've also tried shattering palming the wall and it doesn't attach the ice crystals
FYI eye of winter works fine with proj speed on a pconc build- you need to gem with deceleration and increased duration though for sure. > can def play it as crit as well but its heavy investment
bro, about the Widowhail Crude Bow, should I insert 2 critical damage bonuses or 2 spirit runes inside? im used ice shot build with tornado shot
@@hamiltonburratto4245 if you are actually going crit it is going to be hard to beat crit damage runes since they are multiplicative with your crit bonus
So many of the skills, uniques, and playstyles are irrelevent in the game, look at monk, they wasted all that dev time on all those abilities, and like 3 are really actually good.
On my view, is not a problem to have skill that does not kill pinnacle content in 5 seconds. But it is a problem when almost all skill can't even kill a boss in 10 min on average builds. They were expecting pinnacle bosses to be a 3 min fight. That means they expected the player to have between 120 to 200k dps. Now we have two questions: 1: Can all dmg skill have at least 120k dps? 2: Can the average player manage to scale his favorite skill to reach this dps without consult a build that did not came from him (which removes 80% of the fun)? I think both answer are no.

@@grimooar4712 widowhail can be used for a few different things but it is going to be best with the concoction skills which you have to be a pathfinder for. Like I played poisonous concoction pathfinder with it which was very strong and if you would be interested in that my video after this one is about that
I have a widowhail that rolled 8-22 cold bonus damage ehen corrupted and 245% quiver effect . Slaped 2 cold dmg gems into it been cruising through the game with it. At lvl 30 i went and spent 3divs on gear with lightning dmg+cold dmg as high as possible. Melting through the campaign so far, cant wait to equiped the utility belt rolled 79% and HOWA when i reach lvl 55. Realy nice bow, will pair it with crit chance when i feel the need for a dps uppgrade.
you said it best they removed so many scaling axis that the game is what i imagine poe1 alpha was like the thing i enjoy the most about poe1 is the build diversity and the various different ways of scaling your dmg, some of which can be very unintuitive which keeps me going back to wiki and pob and actually have to use my brain. meanwhile poe2 is like "here's a preset build. take it or leave it" and then what baffles mem ore is that they imported some of the dumbest uniques from poe1 without too much thought. like original sin is insanely broken for what it does with alberon's and synth implicits, then they just destroy all types of conversions and port original sin the exact same way it is? and it's worse coz wither now is so much easier to stack so the 0 chaos res is barely doing anything... honestly it feels like they gathered people with sub 200h in poe1 and asked them to design the game because so many mechanics are straight up changed for the worse and not just numerically, but also fundamentally. one node giving 60% global inc ES that can be doubled to 120 with grim feast is a prime example of people not knowing what the fk they're doing with the game
yeahhhhhhh. Wish I didn't agree with you but yeah. Right there with you, building your character is by far my favorite part of PoE 1 so it is kind of rough in 2. The unique design is seriously weak. I was excited when I saw they were buffing a bunch of them with the last patch but then after looking at them idk why they bothered with most of them tbh
You can actually do this with the normal Archmage setup since Mahuxtol's gives so much armour - level 10 ice crystal (Gemling +1) + icicle + the reduced life point is about 330 life, and about a 450 armour Mahuxotl's with 21 resonating strike and some damage support (brutality etc) just about pops the whole cluster. The problem is normal spark or cast on blink comet might just be better since you don't need to do the clunky cast + piano your keys. I guess the best use case would be some kind of automated icewall (maybe on another reaper's invocation?) plus aoe scaling on resonating shield, or you could pre-charge like 4 reapers and use it as a pure bossing build, but again it seems inferior to the 2 builds mentioned above, if not in damage then just in pure QOL.

I was actually finally using this for utility on my mace strike cultist hammer gemling to make my frost wall instant cast. I had two reaper's with the first being frost wall and the second apply sniper's mark, eye of winter and a curse. Eventually the frost wall was just going to go on a cast on crit/shock/freeze Still unsure of how if at all to actually use it as a main source of a build. If you are a melee build that wants to automate frost wall like I was doing then it works for that but that is supppppper niche
@@poopbuttsmy main issue with the setup is that it just seems like bad QOL as a primary damage source, and if you're running it on a proper melee build damage scaling seems pretty impossible. Maybe just use it as a cheeky DD enabler?

100% agree, I always like making weird non-meta builds that just appeal to me in some way. In PoE1 I can do that freely and find solutions to problems and get to T16 at least (never done ubers but I'm fine with that). But in PoE2 I've had to abandon 4-5 builds/characters right now because the combination I was aiming for either doesn't work or doesn't scale hard enough, or when it does scale I need to build mana which kills my scaling in other areas and pigeonholes me into archmage which I don't want to use... Everything just sucks except the one combo that kicks ass, which they will nerf of course.

They said no nerfs but then they buffed chaos damage and bosses. So everything was nerfed.
good video. i have a question; aside from things like graphics, are there any game mechanics that you think poe2 actually does better than poe1? Becaue to me, no matter at what i look at, everything just seems like a worse and more restrictive version of poe1. The things you pointed out in this video apply to mace warrior builds aswell, there is this node giants blood and it feels mandatory, you are already stacking strength anyway, since its the only way to scale life so not taking that node is just a huge dps loss. - it feels just as limiting and railroaded as manastacker or stat stacker or whatever. Then there is the ailments which all scale based on hit damage, whats the difference between ignite, poison and bleed? they all feel the same, the scale the same way, theres no cool or unique way to scale any of them like stacking hundreds of poisons with fast small hits etc.
I wish I could say I disagree with anything you said but I don't. I'm just kind of hoping over time the game opens up and they walk back some of the build design restricting decisions they've added since idk how much love/effort they are actually going to put into PoE 1 going forward. I would say boss design is much cooler in PoE 2 and I do love wasd. But honestly 99% of what I care about is build design/depth so.... yeah.

So this unique mace does more damage than a top end game rare one?? And can an enemy been hit of more/all projectiles? You need more area for this?
@@csac1979 it does more damage than a rare if you can quickly cap that flat lightning value on the mace. An enemy can be hit by more than one projectile if you attack from far enough away (they explode on hitting the ground). They can also be hit by more than one at any range if you create a object for them to explode on like frost wall/tempest bell Area does not seem to be necessary from my testing

@@aeggeska1 tldr is it was okay but not great. It was extremely difficult to keep the frost walls alive even with investment into wall life which means the shotgunning was super difficult to consistently do. You could use tempest bell to make it more consistent but it is more annoying to setup. I ended up having two +5 maces on my weapon swap and took both of the +1 max totem nodes on my second weapon set skill tree to use that for single target instead I could fix the damage by putting on howa but tbh I am sick of that solution so I just started over in ssf lol
You can add the support gem "Capacitor" to increase the maximum energy for invocation skills by 80%. Then it'll have 900 max energy which is 3 comets worth. If you spell echo it that's 6 comets with one invocation. If you play Gemling legionairre or get the unique helmet that lets you use same support gem twice, you can set up 2 invocations with the same comet set up and basically do 12 comets at once.
@@Hwanbright yep! I was messing around with that too and it is probably the route to go. I also think it might be worth exploring just using all projectiles spells and scaling fire spell levels to juice a flame wall
After the nerfs of "increased damage with bow skills" no longer work, do you think the build died or can we get around this with a corruption in the quiver of "increased damage" or try to use plaguefinger, with a triple flat in the quiver
Oh this build definitely did not die. I think now you just value sources of increased damage higher where previously I was avoiding them like the plague since you got it all from your quiver. Getting an increased damage corruption on your quiver would be ideal but honestly probably not at the cost of good suffixes/implicits on it like attack speed/crit chance/crit bonus. It certainly will be worth saving up for though, especially if you are already using quiver effect jewels. For single target you would lose damage damage by switching from snakebites to plaguefinger's (even with a triple flat quiver) but it would certainly help your clearing dps since you are rarely attacking more than a couple times per pack. Maybe add on a ming's heart if you didn't already previously. Try to get generic sources of attack/chaos/projectile damage on things like jewels and rings. Damage wheels like dark entries and pure chaos get better if you weren't already taking those. But honestly all in all this setup is extremely high damage for the investment it takes and this nerf doesn't change that.
@@poopbutts I checked on "POB", Ming Heart on Vacuum gave +40% full DPS, the only ring that comes close and even surpasses is the original Sin with Insane Rolls with Elemental Flat on the Quiver, which I think is practically impossible to get, because you need the good rolls on the suffix and the corruption of Increased Damage doubled my damage on the POB, i.e. Ming Hearts is really insane
