In Crust I No Longer Trust Part 2: DIY custom paint on my 1982 Sportster Tracker
On this video I take you through my full process of painting my motorcycle gas tank. All parts were painted in the same process and I show you every mistake and fix I did. For my first time taking a paint job seriously I am convinced anybody at home can get similar results with no professional tools (and some hobbyist tools). Most things I used are down below if interest for any product used, along with ready to spray cans available from tropical glitz. It cut the need from having a fancy paint equipment while having a high quality finish.

In Crust I No Longer Trust- 1982 sportster tracker overhaul- Part 1
มุมมอง 1K28 วันที่ผ่านมา
In this video I start taking down my 1982 Harley sportster “ironhead” tracker. After 42 years on this planner the elements have taken there tolls and since the last deep clean it has come time to redo the bike. Originally finished to this stage in 2022 I have decided to paint polish and cleanup this bike. I hope to finish it to bring it ito a show in a short deadline but will not sacrifice qual...

So sick buddy
Thank you!!!
Get some!
Sick rattle can job and the flames too. Rattle can forever! (Airbrush too 😂)
It’s rattle CAN not rattle cannot
I do love motorcycle. I love them all brands. Ive though i got hit by a car still love them. ❤❤❤❤😊
It’s part of the game. I’ve had my incident’s and still have no desire to stop!!
cool video man!
Just in time. I’m doing something like this so I’m grateful you’ve done it already💀🙏 thankyou brother
Wow!!! I love the trail bike look for the iron head. I seold my iron head and bought an xs650 . I just put a permanent magnet magneto and a capacitor. jockey shift and a thumb throttle rounds out the awesomeness. I might put the clutch on the shifter though. Great job brother. I hope the bash goes well. I am down in PA....
I love my old xs650, have a few motors on the shelf. Both this and the xs are tracker style bikes. Much fun but haven’t rode it much since they stopped doing the most local hillsclimb races.
@@SlappysGarage Thanks brother. Maybe we can go riding sometime...I am down in Pennsylvania...Iwill not be making it to the show. Maybe next one. I would really love to do the EL Diablo Ride again. I was hit on my 1957 Panhead two years ago and nearly lost my right leg and had a blood clot so big that the surgeons said they had not seen in 30 years. An F350 clipped my rear fender and flipped me up and around a telephone pole in front of my house and kept going. I am back on my feet finally but it was a hell of a journey.
I'm confused you start with an evo sporty with inverted forks. Then at the end of the video its an Ironhead with regular forks????
@@wd3930 I wasn’t going to wire or plumb the bike before I have everything else mocked up. If someone was looking to do this oil tank conversion I gave them an example of how it can be setup
after riding and a few heat cycles is it still shiny ?
It brings out tones in the stainless (gold blue or purple) all depends on jetting and beds of the pipe
looks awesome 👏
I think the dyna is better because I have one😂
Check steering bearing grease, did the welding melt out grease? gas tank good work. when you get better with the welder you will go and do some great work, it is all about the self-satisfaction and pride, you built it, and it is looking good. where you at, maybe I will pay you to build me one too.
@@flathead1930 I’m on Long Island ny, plan is to practice more fab but then I’m going to rebuild the front end w new seals and also do new stem bearings
Do you not need a Shift Shaft Tube gasket? I'm about to do mine. I have a 2004 FXDL
@@rileyhicks8421 it’s a cheap thing to do, it’s just an o ring so I won’t have to every time. But it’s cheaper to do it for at least the first time then to pull your primary off to do it the second time
Look good - preferred the pink look though!
@@elzer0181 don’t have the heart to destroy the oem painted tank for the color, but setup wise this is only temporary!! If you liked the pink u may like my next paint job another bike I’m painting
Thing with those bags after a while the sun really beat down on the military straps on the top and really like completely came off over time
@@michaelmaningding that’s a bummer man, hope the other straps held up to keep them usable
Way cool Nick! Never shut down!
Instead of denting the gas tank I think I would have cut it and weld in a "tunnel". And the braked, I would mounted the bolts from the top. Then they wouldn't fall out if they unthread. But that's me... there's more then one way to Rome 😅
Is this the most recent part for this? I’m eating all the episodes in order so I can get some inspiration for what I want to do to my father’s sporty. He passed back in ‘01 and I want to turn it in to a dirt bike style bike since I’m 6ft 4 and sporty a are a tight fit for me😆 if this is the last one as of now I hope life treating you well dude🤘🏻
@@RGR_514 so I had some issues with the title. Vermont loophole closed I’m working on getting a title at the moment so I can resume this project!!
@@SlappysGarage excited to see the next steps😁🤘🏻
@@SlappysGaragecant wait to see an update. I binged all the videos lol
@ so as of now I am waiting to find out when the next batch of titles goes out from a guy who had gotten a title for a buddy. Once that’s free and clear I will be getting back into it but it still looks like 2-3 months out.
@ can’t wait. Keep going please. Im an LA filmmaker rooting for ya’
Hahaha I feel that one
Let’s see that chopper
I did get jump on that bike, my plans outweigh my skill at the moment. Need some more practice fabricating to get the parts where I want it!!
How much would this cost on an 01 WG?
@@cjbat8794 all depends on the used parts market. Mids, 250ish plus an inner primary (wideglides don’t usually have a mid shaft hole) 100-200ish (would be cheaper to have yours machined out if you know a machinist). Plus gaskets would be 400-500 in total. Chain drive kits can be 250+ without labor you are looking at $650-750 in parts. Now both are necessary to remove an inner primary so if you want both it’s best to save on gaskets and do them together
“hold me nooow im 6 feet from the edge”
Nice bike, I have a couple of questions, I hope you can help me, in addition to the long bars did you put anything else? Like dampers or something extra? I'm about to set the bars +6 but I want the look you achieved, it's great
@@marcodavila3858 this is a 4+ tube with a +2 on the dampener, till death cycles sells them and can be either +2 or +4. So it’s sitting about 6 over
@@SlappysGarage Oh I see, I hope with the +6 bars I can raise the front of my bike enough, thanks
How’s this bike now buddy? Sweet!
Literally building my bike super similar right now
@@Ldog2016 do it up!!
@SlappysGarage mines an 04 so things just gotta be difficult
@@Ldog2016 just a lot more wires, to cleanup, for a swingarm chopper. Personally I’ve always like carburetors it can make it much easier to clean up the harness converting it!!
I have acarb
@@Ldog2016 I was mistaken but that makes it much easier, I haven’t really messed with any rubber mounted sportsters, I didn’t realize they came in a with a carb when they changed!!
I know you love that stealth pipe!
It was a buddy’s but he liked every muffler combination they offet!!
I need a chopper riding buddy on the island, these m8 and tc dudes smh…
@@shovelheadd93 I’m very much a twin cam dude but I think I have to revamp this next to my style to rip around the island soon!
This is not a hard tail right?
no. its a swingarm in a chopper style.
@@Mitchellkzk we are in talks of finally going hard tail but for now he’s enjoying the swingarm style chopper
Your ass and back and money will appreciate you if you just leave it with a swing arm. Even in Texas I feel like a hard tail is asking for a major wreck on these highways when you hit that one shitty spot.
Is that a 1 year medal??
Its a great idea to junk all the heavy stuff and standard shocks. Good engines too with torque. Well done.
Get a front fender from an early ‘70s Honda XL 125 or 250 or one of the SLs that are similar - the aluminum ones. The exhaust system on your bike is exactly what I’d like to find but no one seems to make anything like it. I dig the hell outta your bike. It just looks like fun about to happen.
@@markwybierala4936 now the problem with the front fender is the wide tires and wider trees, personally I want to make a fork brace and shave off those mounts when I get the time
Those are Harley’s idk how much “reckless” riding you can really do
that’s why he had to call it in because they can’t actually preform dangerous acts near them other than mabey speeding🗿
You might want to watch what people can do on Harley’s before thinking this way
This has been my bike for the last 2 years. I got halfway through the chop and just started riding it like it was.
I’ve wanted to build a chopper since I started riding and 1 year to owning one in I am just starting to make it my own. Probably will get to ride it around in the fall if I don’t let my adhd start 3 more projects
@@SlappysGarage I love it. Yeah, I had a kid and the money ran out before I could do the hardtail. Ended up removing the monoshock and letting the swingarm come up until it bottomed out. Welded it together and rode it. I'll get it done for real one day but it's been just fine so far. Just insanely low.
Get a skull cap brother crazy als makes then proper you’ll thank me later
Happens to us all brother. I've got a bag on my bars filled with spare fuzes and bolts from every single time I've had to fix something i put second pair in my bag. It's always the weirdest shit falling off or failing. Just last week i hit a pothole hard enough to knock my negative battery bolt clean out the battery and out the bike. Ran a little rough but still got me all the way to the cabin where it wouldn't start without a 45 minute trip to the part store to buy a 5 dollar pack of battery bolts and square nuts.
One project at a time my friend😊 buy your wife some chocolate or quality deserts from bakery.
Any bike I ride is never ending project. Constantly tweaking or changing. But I also can’t help a seemingly good deal i won’t touch for years
😂😂😂
Que motocicleta es?
I don't remember saying I'd pay next time
Nice FXR dude 🤘🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you, definitely the best Harley to ride!!
Killer bike man
What show is that from?
Wolf of Wall Street, it’s a movie.

Built is better than bought any day. Plus I hate all the sensors and computers. My bike gets me down the road fine and it's only got 6 wires on it.
@@TravisRummer that’s just less things to go wrong!!
Fxr is top of the Harley food chain next best is early model twincam dyna. Everything else is just a motorcycle. I believe in my heart of hearts the fxr and dyna are best Harley's ever built. Excellent bikes that be built to do anything. Sportsters are great as well but fxr and dyna is where it's at.
@@omw2fymom76 well for my next series I just picked up a 2000 dyna frame and low mile power plant yesterday. Going to be starting that project real soon.
