I’m so jealous this is my dream
You can do it!
@@SaltyBoysFishing I just had a daughter so I’m set back a bit 🤣 don’t think I’ll get a loan for older boat like that
@Icebreaxer you have to believe! It’s a great family boat that will help sell it to the significant other 😂
@@SaltyBoysFishing amen brother
Hull #1 sank in the great blow of 81 😅
Happens to the best of em!
Does this harden the rod and make it more durable?
So the epoxy is what truly holds the guides to the rod blank. Without the epoxy the thread would come loose eventually but yes it makes it very durable
Was that a family boat that got sold to you?
It was sold to me by an older couple but not related to me.
Looking good
Thank you!!
These big old boats seem like a bargain, but boats generally require an average of about 10 to 20% of their purchase price (original purchase price) in running/maintenance costs annually. When I say average, you can imagine much lower maintenance during the first five years so as you get further along…
Yes the original purchase price is just the tip of the iceberg! Owning them requires a huge time and money commitment to keep them up and running smoothly let alone the fuel they consume!
Great video salty boys. Helped me fix my rod!!
So happy we could help! Tight lines 🎣
Hey man love the content would love to see the boat in action
The season is here! We are working on making some fishing videos with this beast asap! Thanks for watching!
What’s the name of the pad you’re using
Does that affect your pitch and cup on the prop?
So it is just removing the scale on the props so it definitely should not cause any changes. With that said if you take the props off the boat it is never a bad idea to get them sent to the prop shop and have them checked as they impact performance in so many ways!
Thanks! What’s the name of the wheel you’re using? Where do you get that abrasive pad?
@SouthFloridaFishingClub I’d have to double check the name of the pad but I got it at harbor freight for like 3$ I think it’s a nylon abrasive wheel
Wow! Great information
Thank you!!
Just subscribed. Awesome boat and improvements.
I appreciate it! What would you like to see next?
I would try to Duct tape the seams the best you can from underneath. Usually you duct tape the top over the cracks before laying the floor. Helps with fumes and noise.
Great advice! We wanted the seems for removing the floor for maintenance and can’t tape from the bottom based as how the floors sit on that “lip” of wood so they all lay flush
Also we have large engine room fans that help draw lots of air in there so there is not dangerous fumes in there
Hmm i guess there’s no way around it with wood floors. I have an 86 44’ and I’m interested in following your progress. Just got to the “end” of self refit journey. From experience it’s VERY smart keeping them accessible.
@IClementsI176 that was the main thing with this upgrade is having easy access for maintenance
Congratulations And good luck fishing.Where are you located
Thank you! I’m located in Virginia Beach right now!
EPIC
Thanks!
Just found your channel. Very interesting and informative. Looking to do the exact same thing for a liveaboard if possible. Retired but on a budget.
Thanks! You can definitely get some good deals and work on it over time especially if you live aboard!
I have a question, how do you get a cork handle off a rod cuz my rod broke and I want to take the cork handle off and put it on my other rod
So the best method is to try and apply heat using a heat gun and then twisting it off. It’s just glued on there with a paste epoxy so it might come off. If that doesn’t work you can order some new cork on Mudhole.com and put that on your new rod!
🔥🔥🔥
Looks good
Thanks!
Nice work
Really cool being able to watch some behind the scenes of how rods are made. I can’t wait to see the finished product!
New video every 1st and 15th!
Great video, what is the price comparison to buy the full up rod vs assembling it yourself?
So typically buying a premade rod is much cheaper but you lose lots of quality, customization as well as with custom rods you can really tweak to what kind of fishing you do versus a generic rod.
love the process - I say you just put a mat over the hatch area to hide the little lip from tripping and being annoyed by it!
Thanks!
Could you maybe do a breakdown on costs for a project sportfish like this? Initial purchase, slip fee, diesel, travelift fees, winter maintenance, general maintenance, etc?
Yeah I can definitely work on putting something like this together although there are so many factors on certain things such as all boats are different on initial cost and condition but I cha definitely break down slip fees and fuel and maintenance ect! Will be a while as we have a 4 part rod building series coming out
Bad ass!
More content on the way!!
Looks great! Cody was awesome
He will be back on another episode soon!
Dog on sofa watching humans laying flooring!

Thanks!
Looks fantastic!!! Night and day difference

coming along nicely
Duuude! So sick
Hell yeah
So glad I was able to give a hand in helping get this beauty even more beautiful!
Such a huge help!
Glad it was a help!!!! Thanks for watching!
What a great time!
I'm working on a "show car" trunk setup with a hatch and some challenging flooring pieces and this video was more helpful then all other 30+ flooring videos I've watched combined, Cody did an amazing job floor looks awesome! Thanks for the help guys.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it and it could help!
I couldn't find that boat. That's def worth it
Agreed!
Clean old boat. Always a few projects. Hey when you put zincs on a shaft you need to seat them with a hammer while tightening the Allen screws otherwise they may loosen and slide back against the struts. Try it- go back with the Allen wrench and a hammer. Hit the zinc in the center (90 degrees from the joints) and then turn the screws some more- you will see that you get another turn or so. Let’s catch some fish!
Great advice someone told me this after they saw me put them on so I went back and did it before we launched!
@@SaltyBoysFishing much easier when its out of the water lol.
@bsg2580 agreed hammers don’t like to work under water 😂
Love all the maintenance vids! Very educational and helpful
Thanks! What else might you want to see
Honestly, anything & everything. The good, bad, exciting, boring, fishing, boating, maintenance, etc. I just like watching videos about these older/pre-owned sportfish boats. Makes me wanna go buy my own pre-owned sportfish. Also, it’s a lot more relatable than watching someone with a $5mil brand new viking with all the bells and whistles.
@The_holy_stromboli well I appreciate your comments! We will be posting every month on the 1st and 15th! Next video will be more boat renovations and then some custom rod building
Keep the oven /stove. It's nice to have
Was really thinking just a stove top like the glass electric one just don’t see the oven being used when we have an air fryer
Great video. Just used snappy teak and Eco Teak powder and it worked wonders on my entire cockpit and covering boards. I think it would help a ton on youres. Just gotta keep it constantly wet and scrub against grain.
Thanks for the advice! I’ve been using star brite teak cleaner and teak oil lately but am willing to give that a try!
Greasy rags=spontanious Combustion
It’s all cleaned up now! Definitely agree and wouldn’t want to get underway or let them run with a messy engine room
Good vid salty. What diameter shafts are those?
1-3/4” so 1.75 inch shafts
Yes sir! Can’t wait to see the next video!! Looking good.
Guess we will see who is a guest star in the next video 🤔😎
Love to see y'all passion my man. Hope you make it big!
Thanks! Good to hear from you!
Love the boat. The 46 ocean was my dream boat as a kid in the 80s.
My friend has a 46 with galley down layout that I also enjoy so it’s cool having two 46’s at the same marina
Great review!
Thanks!
Do you live in Florida?
From Florida but live in Virginia Beach right now but will be back in Florida in a few years!
Definitely one of the best looking classic sportfish. Enjoy!
Couldn’t agree more
Great wife that will pressure wash your boat.
Agreed
A mirror etched with the Salty Boys logo!
Great idea! Maybe LED edged glass instead of mirrorV
Logo instead of the mirror! And if you can learn that epoxy, that bathroom would be so dope!! Them Garmins looking good on there too, BIG BOYS!
Thanks!! Are you good with epoxy? Let’s get it done!
