Mad Acre Farms
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 25 ต.ค. 2019
We decided it was time to come back home. We spent our lives up to this point chasing our careers. Something woke us up and gave us the courage to try something different! So.. we did what any normal city folk would do! We bought a small farm in the Midwest! We are learning as we grow and sharing our experiences with starting a market garden, raising farm animals, trying our hand at beekeeping along with using a greenhouse during our very cold winter season!!
Will it be easy...no, will it be fun...you'll have to find out!

How to Keep Your Animal Waterers From Freezing (new invention)!
We had the pleasure of trying out a new invention made right here in Iowa just for our farm! Lets just say it did not disappoint. The amount of time that this invention saved us on not having frozen waterers was priceless and it was made by a local Iowan inventor. We are all about supporting local and it doesn't get any more local than this! Be sure to stop by our website www.madacrefarms.com and sign up for our newsletter as we will drop more details on this inventions journey as we get them!
Welcome to Mad Acre Farms! We have a 4 acre property in the lovely state of Iowa. We have a 3/4 acre market garden working on expanding each year. We are adding greenhouses to help extend our season. We also started a CSA membership for our farm while participating in our community farmer's markets. The goal is to be a sustainable farm for future generations. We also have goats and are utilizing rotational grazing methods, along with chickens, peacocks, ducks, geese, dogs, rabbits and cats! The property we purchased in 2020 much like most homesteads requires some work. Join us while we share our journey to the simple life!

The Barn Move
มุมมอง 2159 หลายเดือนก่อน
We have been working on this project for going on two years. It was quite the challenge to get it cleaned out and ready to be moved. In the interim we started to work with Practical Farmers of Iowa who awarded us a grant to get the building moved so we can start utilizing it as a pack house this summer for our market garden. The area the barn is being moved on already has water and electricity ...

Managing Animal Feed Cost, Shelters, and Frozen Waterers
Ok youngsters. Go buy bubble wrap and a spray on adhesive compatible to you bubble wrap. Line the glass windows with the bubble wrap. It’ll allow the sun rays in and reduce the thermal transfer of green house heat through the glass

Corn and sunflower is great for extra calories to keep them warm!
I love it when someone manages to share a full explanation in such a straightforward and quick way. I wish I wasn't always busy, but that's often just the way it is. Great video! Thanks
What keeps the cup from freezing
@pamsalinas3235 Hello Pam, we did a follow-up video. We switch the poultry waters out for rubber bowls. Thank you for watching!!!
High there. I think I'm a new fan of your videos. Glug glug glug yummmmmm, your right that is tasty! I just had a thought. Do you suppose it could be possible to make your watering bucket animal heated, at least through the night? Here is my bright idea. Make a box big enough for the animals lets say we are working with a dozen chickens or rabbits. The box could be insulated on the sides. The top could have a hole where the bucket or bowl drops down through the top of the box. The aforementioned critters burrow each might inside the said cozy box. Their excess heat warms the water. Thusly keeping it from freezing at least not so quickly. Maybe? After all ive only just thought of the idea. Perhaps it would be worth a try?
I like your winter water solutions. So far what I have tried and am somewhat satisfied with is a 2' hole in the ground that my water bowl sits on top of. This was in an attempt to access the warmth of the earth but it only worked on the shoulders of the winter season. During the coldest 60 days or so I fill a giant thermos with boiling water and seal the lid on tightly. Then drop that down in the hole. The heat seeps out slowly from the thermos over the next 24 hours and keeps the water in the bowl above from freezing. Try it out for yourself and see if it isn't worth making a video about it. Feel free to ask questions. P.S. Thanks for showing how a married life is a blessing!
Location? Appropriate for central Illinois?
Have you heard of Nick Ferguson's tree fodder method for feeding goats with certain trees? He is a big permaculture guy. We are planting them this fall for goats next year!
nice, hope you all are doing well
Well, how did they do?
So glad you all were safe During the derecho
@@lindseylucas4723 thank you!
Thanks!
She said "Mmmm!" 😂
SWEEEET!
So, was putting the cuttings in the plastic bag worth it? 😀 Did it root faster? I would really like to find out! Is there a follow-up video? Thanks!
do you have an update on where the window worked to produce a root system? I'm trying to plant lilacs on my property but can only get ahold of cuttings. I did buy some Miss Kim bushes but I really want the bigger lilac bushes.
Woww i wanna use it on my van :o
So cool!
Very cool! We need something like that! Hope you guys are doing well
Thank you! Same to you!
Oh, don't forget to comment!😉
Thank you for watching and commenting!!
How cool is that! Love it that we're seeing inventors in action! The old saying "necessity is the mother of invention" holds true, and I think this inventor is wonderful for meeting a need that so many people here in Iowa (and around the country--even around the world) have. I am praying for success for him with his invention--and for you as you raise your goats and other animals at the farm.
Thank you very much! We appreciate your support ♥️♥️
Your green needs to be rebuilt. Not use metal structures radiates heat. Then you need a minimum double pain system or triple your heat loss will. Reduce greatly.
OMG I haven't laughed so much in a long time. You 2 are so funny.
We appreciate you!! Glad you liked it!
Jamie your camera shy here lol
Oh yeah this was the first video we ever did! Crazy how much things have changed. Thanks for supporting us♥️♥️
U 2 crack me up 😂
How do I find the video of them making your home?
Hey there! Look up 2006 Extreme Home Makeover Gladbrook
Does this keep the cups or nipples from freezing though ?
Would heating the water tanks be an option? The bulk of the water if warm could radiate enough to warm the greenhouse?
Good seeing you again! Great plans!
My mother grew lilac bushes into lilac trees 😅 her rhodedendrons are also huge (taller than our one story home) thanks to the chicken poop she would sweep off the porch into the flower beds ( they took "free range" a little too far 😂 )
Thank you for the information!!!
