Who is the Bounciest Manager?
The New Manager Bounce-it’s one of football’s great mysteries. A team is circling the drain, the board hits the big red button, and suddenly, a new face appears on the touchline, barking instructions and wearing an ill-fitting club tracksuit. Manchester United, Leicester City, Southampton, Wolves and Everton have all pulled the emergency cord this season, but how does this phenomenon vary? Do some managers bounce higher than others? And more importantly, who holds the title of the bounciest manager in Premier League history?
To find out, I’ve crunched the numbers on every mid-season managerial appointment in Premier League history, measuring the points lost before their arrival against the points gained after they took over. It’s an exact science-or at least as scientific as an Excel spreadsheet and a desperate attempt to justify too many hours on Transfermarkt.
In this video, we reveal the bounciest manager of all time, the unfortunate souls who sank rather than soared, and the clubs that turn new managers into short-term miracle workers.
Along the way, we’ll take a look at some legendary flops. Plus, if you’ve ever wondered when the best time to sack a manager is, we’ve got the data to prove that January isn’t just for regretting your gym membership-it’s also prime time for a managerial reset.
If you enjoy deep dives into Premier League history, football stats, or just want to relive some of the biggest managerial disasters of all time, this one’s for you.
If you want more silly football analytics, make sure to check out my previous video, "Where is the toughest place to play on a Cold, Wet Tuesday night?"

How a Scottish Striker 'Fixed' English Football
มุมมอง 37Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Football: the beautiful game, a sport built on skill, passion, and fair play. Or is it? Behind the glory of league titles and World Cup victories lies a darker side of the game, and few stories expose it better than that of Jimmy Gauld. Once a journeyman striker with a knack for scoring goals, Gauld’s legacy wasn’t defined by his performances on the pitch-but by his audacious scheme to manipula...
Who are the biggest Bottle-Jobs in Premier League history?
มุมมอง 97K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
On October 6th, 2024, Tottenham Hotspur found themselves on the wrong side of history ... again. After throwing away a 2-0 lead against Brighton to lose 3-2, they became the first team in Premier League history to bottle a two-goal lead ten times. Naturally, the internet had a field day, with “Spursy” making its triumphant return to the discourse. But this got me thinking: how 'Spursy' are Spur...

มุมมอง 119K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
Next Goal Wins ... kind of - Football’s history is packed with rules that made sense… and some that didn’t quite hit the mark. How was it supposed to improve extra time penalties? And, most importantly, And why did it van...

Who is the most Clutch Goalscorer in the Premier League?
มุมมอง 46K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
How much wood could Chris Wood come clutch, if Chris Wood could come clutch wood? Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s talk about the word of the day: “Clutch.” While the term is well-known in sports like basketball, where it refers to moments of high-pressure heroics, it hasn't fully made its mark in football-yet. In this video, we delve into what it means for a goal (or a player) to ...

Why do Chelsea play in Fulham?

If you ever hop off at Fulham Broadway Underground station expecting to find Fulham Football Club, you might be in for a surprise. Where is the toughest place to play on a Cold, Wet Tuesday night?
มุมมอง 96K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
On the 20th of December 2010, TV pundit Andy Gray claimed that Leonel Messi would “struggle on a cold night at the Britannia Stadium … A cold, wet, windy one". And so, a football cliché was born. "Can they do it on a cold wet Tuesday night in Stoke". This iconic phrase has since become a football parody, and unavoidable whenever discussions of the 'GOAT' come up. You should find out what is the most/least competitive era, or 15 year period, across all leagues. Talking of France, there was a time before PSG and Lyon's recent dominant periods when there was seemingly a new winner every year. England as well was very competitive pre Premiership years, despite even Liverpool's great era. In the 80s to early 90s, no fewer than 7 clubs won a scudetto in Italy.

Made the calculations for *Turkish Süper Lig* and the result is: (38/38)*(0,467)*√((5,07)*³√(43,5)) = *1,97* Which places Süper Lig not only in top 5 but in top 3, in between La liga and Serie A for the big leagues. Even though competitiveness wise Süper Lig is superior, game quality and fairness of the league would make it ranked lower overall.

IMHO The criteria should be further refined to "new manager replacing SACKED manager" as Stuart Gray's inclusion is a bit unfair, since Glenn Hoddle voluntarily left the job rather than the board giving Hoddle the sack, forcing Gray to fill in in a role he was clearly unprepared for. Secondly, before 2022 Nottingham Forest had spent over two decades languishing outside the Premier League, so their high NMB score is no doubt massively skewered by their relatively small PL game sample size. Would have like to see some weighted score rather than just calculating pure averages.

It would be interesting if we would SUBTRACT points dropped from the new manager (instead of adding points gained). That way we could see whether managers improved or worsened a team... and we could also add one manager's scores with different teams together to see who is the bouncies across his entire career
