I like "The Chase" it's one of my favourite Hartnell stories. In those days the BBC couldn't afford re-takes it was very costly they had to make do with what they had they had to film this like it was live if an actor made a mistake usually the other actor will cover for the other actor it's like a stage play on television people watching in the 1960's wouldn't had noticed these things continuity wasn't a big deal kids watching just wanted Daleks and alien worlds it's funny to say this now but back then it was state of the art as television was still in it's infancy and you have to bear in mind these things were only designed to be watched once or twice that was it never to be seen again no one thought these things would be repeated or kept as people junked alot of episodes because the BBC didn't think they were going to be any future value "Dr. Who" wasn't the only show that was affected by this.

Good Lord.” Wait until you get to The War Games! 🤣 “The Chase” is the first poor Dalek story (and of course it wouldn’t be their last bad one) but as the story progresses you can tell that it’s meagre plot is stretched out way to much to sustain 6 episodes, and it’s really only the last episode that holds its weight in value for a number of reasons. It’s just a pity it took them so long to get there. Can’t wait for your reaction to episode 3, and a certain Mr. Dill. 🤣

The chase is a very special experience. The effects and music are an experience. The space balls reference was very appreciated. Falstaff is a comedic character in several of Shakespeare's plays. It was thought he was based on a royal court lord. These story's are an example of what can go wrong when recording things live and unable to do reshoots because it was to expensive. There are a lot of times when Daleks just go round in circles to make it seem there are more of them. Also I like their little dance they do when they're talking. Those wtf things you showed on the dvd cover are The Zarbi.. giant ants and bitchy actors in silly costumes on wires pretending they are being moths.

Trauma rating is going to be difficult. Trauma level 8. I'm an emergency nurse, so anything to do with the human body I'm ok with. HOWEVER I am a cat person, and I had forgotten about those kittens. I was more angry about NOT GOING TO THE VETS!!! Hence the high trauma level. Going to watch your reaction for devils chord to calm down.

Ok, since it was asked by...someone... I re watched for a trauma rating. Trauma rating 5. Being raised on UK shows like Tales of the Unexpected and "kids shows" like into the labyrinth, children of the stones and Doctor Who, may have fortified me against most creepy things. Levitating lady wouldn't have got me but your reaction did. If you ever find yourself with a floating ghost just tell them to make themselves useful and go clean the hard to reach high up place, then go back to sleep.

I was wondering if someone made a montage of people reacting to this part, because I'm sure a lot of people who watch Buffy reactions watched reactions to this episode primarily for reactions to this specific fakeout.

"Why are his eyes so weird?" Henry Thomas has blue eyes. Timothy Hutton has brown eyes. They were trying, with contact lenses and lighting, to make Henry Thomas's eyes look darker. They didn't quite succeed.

Nell saying “Go!” to Luke is a really tricky bit of writing. When Luke tells Joey “my sister kind of told me to [go after you]”, we, the viewers, are tricked into assuming Luke’s interpretation is the correct one. IT’S NOT! This is actually a really important moment, the meaning of which won’t be revealed until the finale. Don’t forget about it when you reach Ep 10! There’s another similar moment in Ep 7 that ties in with it. Really enjoying your journey through this masterpiece of a show!

I've come to think Luke's reference to the bowler hat man "creeping back up on him" was intended to be both literal AND metaphorical. I believe he has literally been haunted since he was a child because he said the things from The House came back AFTER The House and he STARTED using to keep those things away.... the things from The House. He then said he'd get clean for awhile and he'd "feel them creeping back up on him". At that point in his life the reference could be to both the haunting AND the addiction. The writers made it clear that he was being haunted before he ever started using so the reference can't be entirely metaphorical. I like how the writers presented that. It makes you think. I love this show! 😊

I always feel quite sorry for Theo and impressed at her bravery; it’s obvious she sees and feels what happens to those kids to a degree and she still puts on her detective hat and goes through it to protect them. Glad to see you’re watching this, in my opinion it’s one of the best television series ever made- a beautiful story that happens to have ghosts rather than just a horror story if that makes sense?

The introduction of Vicki, and Maureen O'Brien's television acting debut. She just come out of drama school. The producers wanted Maureen O'Brien to dye her hair black to make her resemble Susan more. Maureen refused, and instead suggested the alternative of getting Carole Ann Ford back. The story was originally known as "Doctor Who and Tanni". It was originally intended that the new companion would be named Tanni. Other names considered for Vicki were Valerie, Millie and Lukki. The name Tanni was still in use when the following story, "The Romans" was written. Ultimately, this was worked into the narrative of Doctor Who universe. In the novel Byzantium! it's revealed that Vicki's mother had considered naming her Tanni, before settling on Vicki. The actor who plays Bennett is australian actor Ray Barrett who is best known as the voice of John Tracy in the 60's british sci fi cult puppet series "Thunderbirds" (1965-66).

They were driving a dustcart. The rubbish was emptied from dustbins at the side of the vehicle. A dustcart is a British term for a vehicle that collects household waste, also known as a garbage truck in the US and Canada.

So, (being vaguely sarcastic) the TARDIS team turn up, kill the last remaining emotional attachment Vicki had, bully her into suppressing her feelings of loss and then decide for her that they will kidnap her. Good old 60's British social commentary (I can say that cos I'm from the UK and was brought up very much with family like that). Yay!!! You're doing the Chase. Buckle in for a very numb bum.

I've watched a dozen reactions to this series. Two I haven't been able to follow up on due to the poor reaction quality. The first was two girls who screamed constantly throughout each episode because they thought they were watching a hard corps 'pure' horror series. The second chatted through important parts of exposition and then were outraged when they got confused by missing SOOOO many vital plot points. congratulations, you're better than both of those.... I'm still here.

Thank you and well done, Darkly Shine. I've watched many of these reviews and your editing, amid the constraints YT puts on you, was good. So many reviewers mess up the edits, like omit Joys outburst, the No Joy, the Sarcasm and critical scenes like that. I am aspergers, and this helped me refine my recognition of anxiety and my own anxious thoughts. I'm 75, and I've spent the last 25 years (and counting) with these kidz, through all their different travails and ups and downs, pre Cell phones through social media, to computers in classrooms..... It has been quite ride, and I love my Kidz. Next movie, high school & college. After that, into the independent life. I'd like something like this for boys lives.

Also sorry your having to deal with YT frustrations just happy your willing to continue however you have too! This episode is ok for me not a favorite but Meg can really sing 🎶💗 & the Koontz scene moves the mystery along nicely.

*LOVE* the slow fighting song! Between the brown-face & Barbara’s white saviour issues, it certainly has the feeling of a show from the ‘60s. But I do love that it also shows Barbara, for all her faults. She was brainy, stubborn, & (with Ian) the very reason the Doctor fell in love with humanity Oh, & the big bad was supposedly doing a bit of a Richard the 3rd vibe to his character, sooooo strong choice? Love the theories. Just an fyi, episodes 10 and 11 aired out of order. The correct order to watch these episodes is 1x11 first then 1x10. Not a huge deal if you don't watch them in the correct order but 1x12 picks up straight from the ending of 1x10.
