Yes, some of the 6 part stories in classic Doctor Who can sometimes be an episode (or two) longer than they need to be, and I guess watching the story in one go can be a bit of a chore (remember these stories were meant to be seen weekly in episodic form) and especially as the pacing of a 1960s story can be much slower than one from the 1970s or 1980s! Carole Ann Ford was, I think, about 23 when she landed the part of Susan in Doctor Who. She took on the role because Susan’s character brief was meant to be a 15 year old alien who was more mature and had more depth to her than an Earth girl of the same age would have. Her first few stories started out that way, but unfortunately it didn’t last and the remaining scripts she had left to film in season 1 simply relegated her to that of being a scream queen with immature tendencies. So she decided to leave and explore other roles and it was decided that her departure would come at the end of this story. This is why this story was recommended to you because a) it featured the first return of the Daleks and b) it showed the audience the very first time a companion would leave the TARDIS crew. The scene is very well played between Carole Ann Ford and William Hartnell, and you can sense the almost silent grief between them as they say their goodbyes to each other! “The Rescue” is the next story to watch, followed by “The Romans,” then “The Chase” and ending season 2 with “The Time Meddler.”

Susan is around 90 David is around late 20's so Susan is being a cougar here.
