    I’d be curious to have you use the brightest cap (bright all the way to the right) and the output set to the right so it pushes the power amp the hardest and see if it gets closer to the real plexi

    The main differences are mahogany top for r7 and unknown top (maple?) for standard, as well as single piece wood body for r7 and multi pieces wood body for standard. The r7 should have lighter wood body for being a custom.

    The differences are subtle, but noticeable. They CSR7 has a better top end. The USA sounds a bit darker and less defined. The USA sounds a bit thin by comparrison overall. Custombuckers in the USA would be interesting.

    Excellent comparison! The R7 just has that special edge - fuller, airy-er, a slight more acoustic quality. I did many similar upgrades to my 2011 LP traditional and compared to my CS '61 SG if you want to check my vid (even both played Hideaway haha, sweet!)

    I’m a synth player hunting for good reverb, there’s nothing to separate these two. The empress provides some chorus options but I already have plenty of that. I think the echoverb on the Ventress edges out the empress. Night Sky vs Ventris is my next search

    Both are great pedals! Own both and don't plan to sell either. Ventris wins on customizing with dual engine and Nero app. Sound wise the Ventris sounds cleaner, but the Empress sounds more organic. No bad choice and either are TOTL reverb pedals.

    I’m late to the party. Not really a comparison because you out the knockoff pickups in the standard. Put the same pickups in the standard. There is always going to be some variation even between examples of the same model, due to minor variances of parts.

    The most difficult thing to do is to test multiple custom shops out in person. Even if they are the same finish, they all sound different, feel different, weight different. Even if the difference are marginal, they'll be there. I have two R9's in Lemon Burst, a 2018 VOS and a 2020 Murphy Lab Ultra Heavy Aged. The ML cost over $4k more and looks like dog shit but sounds incredible. Yet when I A/B them the VOS makes sounds that the ML can't. It's rounder and smoother where the ML is more aggressive and biting.

    13:35 (R7) VS 13:50 (50s) When playing the muffled sound, the 50s feels blurry but thick but not clear enough. It doesn't have the heavy and clear feeling of the R7.

    @cabinetsfactory ปีที่แล้ว

    6:40 50s too bright for me. I like the R7. Warmer than 50s at 6:40. Turn up the sound and listen with monitor headphones, you will find that the sound of 50 is very bright and harsh, not as warm, soft and not abrupt as R7.

    Did you not like the Burstbucker 1 & 2 in the original 50's? I have an Original 50's goldtop and I love those creamy pickups. Very Slash sounding as well as nailing all the classic rock tones. Mine's a 2021 model and it's all hand wired with Orange Drop capacitors. Your's must be an earlier model with the PCB board electronics. I didn't even know they made the Original 50's with that type of electronics. Thank God that didn't last. The only mod I'd be willing to do would be to get those Gotoh tuners with the flat head tuning pegs. Do you have a Gotoh part # for those tuners?

    • @Fanmusic91
      @Fanmusic91 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comments. I did like the Burstbucker 1 and 2 but I found the neck was lacking a bit of clarity whereas the bridge was too bright. I tried to play around with the pickup height and pole screws but didn't work out. The electronics on my standard 50s is a Jimmy page mod 50s wiring harness hand wiried by Sixstringsupplies UK. The original harness with Orange Drop caps is actually a modern type wiring not 50s wiring unfortunately. The tuners on my standard 50s are Kluson Deluxe SL/SR tuners, made by Gotoh, under Göldo Germany brand and was aged by Crazyparts.de. I believe Gibson used Gotoh made Kluson tuners on their earlier Custom Shop Reissue models. However, these have been changed to WD Music branded Kluson Deluxe (Korea or China made not sure) which is found on today's Custom Shop Reissues.

    • @BostonWhoFan515
      @BostonWhoFan515 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Fanmusic91 yes I know the current wiring harness with the Orange Drops isn't vintage spec but in the video your original 50's had that Gibson branded black plastic holding it all together. Whereas with mine and all others I've seen just had the pots fastened on from the rear with a nut and basic wiring system. It didn't have all that black plastic. I thought that system had been pulled from production when the new ownership took over. But apparently your original 50's had that bulky plastic wiring system. Maybe when they first introduced that model they wanted to use up what was left of that plastic harness. Idk. But yeah I love those Gotoh tuners with flat top tuning pegs. It looks vintage. Thanks for the info on them.

As someone who owns a 50's Standard and did many of those same mods I hate to admit that while it sounds great, it's a little sterile when compared to the custom shop. Soundwise both are great. Can you do us a favor? Can you do a sustain test to see if the Long tenon has something to do with it? I know it's a myth but it's always good to see these kind of tests. Thank you

    • @Fanmusic91
      @Fanmusic91 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately I no longer own the Standard 50s so I couldn't do the sustain test sorry. I was gonna include this test as well as unplugged sound comparison. However, later I found they are a bit pointless tests since electric guitars meant to be plugged in, and no one would hold a note that long during a song (unless it's Gary Moore XD). As for the sustain every part on the guitar comes into play imho. The long neck tenon definitely makes some contribution but not exclusively. As people say the wood selection and longer drying process for the Custom Shop guitars may also make the difference.

    I’ve got a 2017 Traditional T, which is the exact same guitar as your 50s standard (no weight relief, ABR bridge, same neck profile) and it’s a little under 9lbs. I can hear some of the same characteristics in yours, they are bright and snappy for a Les Paul, moreso than the 90s and 2010s standards I had which I always felt needed some more top end to them. The custom shop has a smoother high end and the low end sounds a little bigger. Oh and the custom shop gold is incredible!!!!

    • @Fanmusic91

      Thank you for the comment. Yes I have exactly the same experience as yours. This particular Standard 50s is on the bright side of a Les Paul.
