Much appreciated. Thank you🤘
Hey BearvsWolf, I have a very similar set up to you (EFnote 5 into SSD5.) You been able to figure out how to map the cymbal choking?
For me( at least in LUNA). I use a Roland TD30 map preset. And chokes work just fine. In the plugin. Go to load preset in the mapping page. Choose roland td30. Everything should mostly map just fine. I occasionally need to change a splash out for a crash with the midi learn function. But chokes work for me.
is the f note snare position sensitive?
I don’t believe so. There are three sensors on the snare. But I dont think moving changes the sound per se
@Bearvswolf I'll find out soon, I'm just interested in the meantime
Have have EFNote 7. What I love the most, are the cymbals. They are self-healing, looks great after 3 years of usage. Roland cymbals would look crappy after 2 months.
Great video and helpful-I’m thinking about getting the 5. So to gig it would be super easy to plug into the PA? Just a couple cables out?
Thanks. Yes, the module has a wire harness on it. And you can take 1/4” L and R outputs right into a mixer. The newer pro modules have multiple outputs if you wanted more control.
How does the kit feel?
Feels good to me. You can tighten/loosen the heads to your preference. My hands do wear out faster on electric kit I have noticed.
I've got the Nano Cortex and a Kemper Profiler. I agree with your assessment of the NC for the most part, but I will point out that a lot of that brightness can be tamed by using the right cab simulation. My main gripe about the NC isn't the sound, but the workflow and the ecosphere which just isn't up to the Kemper's.
Thabks for the input. In this case I wasn’t using any cab sim. But I can see how it would change things. I ended up sending it back but happy with the Kemper sound at least for now 🤘
Very nice tone
Thanks🤘 They made a great pedal
machine gun
Sounds amazing! Would you mind sharing which profile are you using? Thanks a lot!
Sure. Thanks🤘 Name: Two Rock Classic Rev Author: AlexisBoyer Amp Name: Two Rock CR
They are the best brand for electric kits in my fullest opinion.
Love the Toms. Unreal sound to be that small
What kit is that? Looks great!
The drums are Efnote 5, E drums.
Sounds Great!!
@ thanks for the feedback🤘
Is it possible to record internally when I play music via the Efnote? And is it possible to record only the drums without the music? And if I drag the recording to the PC, how many tracks will I have?
Yes it can record. I believe its a stereo recording.
Is it possible to record internally when I play music via the Efnote? And is it possible to record only the drums without the music? And if I drag the recording to the PC, how many tracks will I have?
So real!!
The Kemper sounds a lot better, more natural. Thanks for the comparison.
Appreciate the comment🤘
Sorry to hear that the nano hasn't worked out for you. Both the Kemper and the Nano sound great. I've played the Kemper toaster for years through a cab with v30s at home and iem with my band. To be honest I did struggle to get it to sound good through a guitar cab. I now run a Nano through a hotone stage hooked up to a frfr speaker at home and it sounds great. I'm guessing these units just sound best through a frfr speaker. You just happen to have more luck with player in your setup.
I heard another reviewer describe something like I tried to convey. That the nano has a “sheen” on it. I think that may be why it would work with FRFR. Either way, I know it works for people. Ive seen other videos where it sounds great. Thanks for the comment🤘
I just purchased this kit and wonder how many input for the hh? There is one for hh and one for hh control but the instructions didn't tell where the hh cable goes?
I use one connection. HH control. That will cover everything
@Bearvswolf great thanks then what's the point of the extra hh input? For roland hh? 😅
@@bingminmin just a guess. But I think they use the same module for other kits. So the lower end kits that dont have the optical hi hat might use the regular 1/4 inch jack. On efnote 5 you use a regular hi hat stand. On the 3x I think its a footpedal not connected to the cymbal. So the control would maybe connect to the pedal and the HH jack would go to the cymbal (trigger). 🤷♂️
Hey man, thanks for making Efnote videos and taking time to share and explain stuff, i got one particular situation for you, kind of a tough one, see if u can help... i just got an Efnote a few weeks ago and its driving me crazy at the time of recording the original Efnote module sounds, the thing is, i upgraded to Efnote from a Yamaha kit, and i kept some Yamaha pads and cymbals to expand the set, so i have the two modules plugged into Cubase, the Yamaha one via original Yamaha MIDI cable and the Efnote one with a simple phone to USB cable, them both go thru ASIO4all into Addictive Drums 2, the thing is, i dont like at all the cymbals sounds of the Efnote (actually, i dont like any cymbals sounds from any modules so far, for what i experienced), so, i wanna stick with Addictive Drums cymbals, so what i wanted to achieve, is to be able to record the MIDI signals of both modules (succeed), but i want Cubase also to record the orinigal Efnote module sounds of the snare, bassdrum and toms, and its only recording the MIDI signals, so far i can play along the way im telling you, because i mute everything on AD except for the cymbals, so, thru the headphones that comes out from the Efnote module, im hearing AD + Efnote module sounds (i do the other way around, i mute the cymbals on the module so i get the AD2 cymbal sounds and i keep the toms and snare of Efnote), but thats as far as my patience goes, i feel like im at the edge of getting it, but im missing something, a detail, and i cant get to that final step, i cannot make Cubase to record everything at the same time as i hear it on the headphones because i also want a register of the MIDI notes and i want to be able to mute the background music later or whatever track im playing along to, i dont want just to register whats going on the output headphones jack, i want to edit everything..., what would you do or recommend??? Maybe theres an easier way, plug everything differently ? i did the best i could and im stuck, and Efnote developers, totally wash their hands, as im sure you already know... no support at all, no mail, no live chat, no nothing, they want us to call the store provider, the store we bought the drums from, lol, nonsense.... what can i try man? Thanks in advance and congratulations for your drums and your technique and playing.
There is actually a solution. But I don’t think it works in cubase. My efnote 5 module can send out of its micro USB output both midi information and think its 7 tracks (5 mono and one stereo) of audio. The catch is, as far as I know this only works in Logic Pro. I have always wondered why that is. Maybe a firmware can fix. Out side of that, I don’t think it can output both midi and line level audio at the same time through its other outputs. Only the usb. I will link a video on the subject.

@@Bearvswolf Hey, thanks for replying, yes i saw that video, looks very easy on Logic Pro, i wanted to leave that for like a final desperate move, since i have to install MacOS and then get Logic Pro, and also, i have no idea how Logic Pro works, i used Cubase like since forever... Efnote went too far with the compatibility and auto rejection thing... I see you got Cubase there on the background ? how are did you record the Efnote module sounds to the video?
@@youtubebrowser1635 I dont own cubase. It looks like I am using Luna on this video. It would have just been connecting the two Line level outputs L/R into my interface. Its possible that if you had an inter face you could accept the line level outputs from the module as well as the standard midi outputs. You of course only get stereo drums. But if you are just trying to remove the cymbals from the mix that would work for you. Assuming they output simultaneously
@@Bearvswolf oh i see, im gonna try that.. looked to me like Cubase yeah, the interface and colors are pretty similar, well, thanks very much man for all the info, im gonna keep trying, be well man, thanks.
It still sounds electronic though. How hard is it to sample acoustic drums?
I agree it does actually sound like an electronic kit. But doesnt ezdrummer make it sound like an acoustic tho?
Hello, sir what is your opinion on nano cortex + full range speaker it's better? or not. thank you..
The closest thing I have to an FRFR is the kemper kabinet. Unfortunately it does not work with the nano. So I don’t know. I only tried it through a standard cab V30. Lots of people like their Nanos through FRFR though.
Kemper Liquid Profiling is actually the newest most advanced technology...and Leo Gibson proved it in his Nano QC vs Kemper video. When comparing a Capture he made and a Liquid PROFILE he made of his Marshall, when using the Gain and EQ controls on both units the Liquid Profile was 18% more accurate to his Marshall than the Nano QC...he was stunned.
Great video🤘
I predict Kemper will add the Profiling capability to the Player and it will be free.
Guitarists fall for the hype about the Kemper being "old technology". It's an algorithm, the power of the chip is irrelevant, it depends how the algorithm was created, and Christophe Kemper just happens to be smarter than the competing engineers...and that's why the Kemper sounds and feels better than the Axe-FX, the QC and the ToneX. Besides the fact that the Kemper FX are brilliant. Try the Spring Reverb, you won't find a better digital SR on the market. The Fuzz system is genius, the Delays and Reverbs and the new Tremelos are brilliant.
I am with you. I thought the stock sounds in tonex were underwhelming. For me Kemper does the job. Thanks for you comments🤘
You can try to convince yourself that your Kemper is the best thing since sliced bread all you want, but the truth is Kemper is not the best sounding unit on the market. Sorry to burst your bubble mate. It is what it is.
@ I’m not here to convince myself. My decision was an easy one. The nano sounded worse. I bought it thinking it might sound better. As I said in the video it sounded fine plugged into my interface and DAW. But for the application relevant to this video (monitoring it through a cabinet), for me, it was not even close. I didn’t make a video to convince anyone. Just share the results and perhaps get any knowledge on how to make the nano sound better.
@@Bearvswolf I replied to guitartoneSA's post, not yours.
Excellent ! I’m really wanting to psh the button on the efnote after being a Roland player for years. I’m concerned about customer support, warranty, integrity of the triggers. Your playing is superb !!
Luckily I have not had any issues in that department. Have never had so much as a software glitch with mine. And I bought it used. Thank you🤘
I think the kemper sounds better. I have the nano and like it through my amps effects return. I hate irs, none of them sound like my 57 in front of my cab.
I didnt try it through my amps loop. Maybe I should have tested that. But I didn’t care much for the kemper that way either.
Just get a Suhr Reactive Load box and an amp, you won't regret it. "No Regerts"
@@PainterDans I do have a load box and a Friedman runt. 🤘
cCortex to me sounded better but I keep the kemper
You tried both? Or you mean in the video?
@@Bearvswolf I have tried both , returned the Nano as it didn't the capabilities I need compared to the kkp . plus I still have the quad cortex . I was just hoping the nano could replace the kemper .
Sorry to all the Nano Cortex FanBoys down voting this video...I'm happy you like your Nano🤙 It sounded bad through my setup, not much else to say🤷♂
I have a Hotone Loudster and the H&K 112 with the V30, what a coincidence i am looking at KPP and nano cortex comparison and sounds from a real cab, let alone the same exact cab and power amp too🥰
Its a great rig👌
Does this have extra cymbal plug ins
There is a 3rd crash connector. So Hi Hat. 3 crashes. And a ride.
That AD snare!! I've just started messing around with my 3X and the in-built sounds are truly fantastic, I've yet to really explore it fully but my plan was to hook to Superior Drummer especially for live work..now I just want that snare in my life!
Yes I like the AD sounds. Very natural. Slate has great record ready sounds. I have never tried Superior Drummer. I had a trial of EZ drummer and really did not like the sounds. For what its worth
It's bassicaly the same problem that my old roland td3 kit had...
But on the td3 you can't really do anything about it
. . . you talk about getting tired ! Thats because of the mesh heads and the rubber cymbals. I work with a 12 inch snare since years with 2 ply, my tuning is shortly before explosion. But it withstands this high tuning since at least 2 years or more. Go not bigger than 12 inch with snare - you will be disappointed ( less rebound ) ! Equip the toms with single mesh heads, you will have much better rebound. My experience is: Everything bigger then 14 inch in tom size ! ? bad bad bad - law of physics - again sloppy rebound ! Bassdrum ? Unfortunately the same thing, even worse !6 My bass drum is a 16 inch XXL from Sonor with XL hubs. Looks super and has a excellent rebound. My set is a semi E kit, with stack kind of cymbals - but this is a other story. ..... I love it ! ! ! - natural sound and a realistic feel Marc Schaer Drums Switzerland
Great info🤘
Cool fills ! I'm here to hear the Efnote drum and i noticed the sounds are switching at around the 3:30 - 3:40 mark or so...what happened? Module glitch?
These are sounds from a plugin FYI not from the module I dont think. I believe I used slate plugin. Not its not a glitch. What you are hearing is when the drums are being picked up by my mic for my voice. When i am talking over my playing i have both audio tracks live. When I am only playing i cut out the audio of the mic so it sounds better. I do have lots of shorts that showcase the sounds of the efnote though if you are looking to hear more. 🤘
Your efnote 5 videos persuaded me to buy the efnote 5x, love it so much already. Thanks a lot ❤
Thats great🤘
Great drumming! It would be amazing if you would make a series of videos of how to use slate drums with your electric drums. What are the steps and what equipment do you need to achieve this?
Thank you🤘 Sure, anything specific you need to know?
@ I would just like to know how to use drum samples, in pro logic or Steven Slate trigger two? I’m gonna buy the F note 7X here in a few weeks.
@ gotcha. Just FYI. To use with an electric kit dont get trigger. That would be to replace acoustic drums youve recorded. You want Steven Slate Drums. SSD5. That will be used for Midi and electronic drums. Thats a video i could make though. 👍
@@Bearvswolf yes a video would be nice. You sold me on the efnote and I’m going to get the efnote 7X and hopefully get to also run Steven Slate with your help.
@@Bearvswolf i´d also really appreciate if you could make a video on how to set up the Efnote with SSD5. I kind of struggle to set it up properly with my Efnote 3B.
Are the overheads via usb real overheads, as in how you’d hear the whole kit when mic’ing, or just the cymbals?
I believe they are just the cymbals. Because you can send a line out to Logic and have the drums broken out to sep tracks. And a stereo of the cymbals. I dont think there are drums in the overheads. But if you use a plugin (slate, addictive) you then get drums in overheads as normal.
@ cool, I used to have a strike pro, sold it when we moved and I’m leaning towards this for recording at home. They’re pricey here in Canada though, about $4400 cad. Seems to be the perfect sizes for my space and has all the features I want.
Good lesson great sounding kit plus love the twirling
Thanks🤘 Funnily enough, last week someone said “stop twirling the sticks”😆😆 I don’t even realize I am doing it at this point🤷♂️
Pretty nice drum kit, man.
Thanks🤘
Plug-in?
Yep. I usually use Slate drums for the electric kit videos.
in your opinion would this kit be good to drum with more rock/punk rock type songs with that heavy play? like will it hold and sound just as good?
I wouldnt say many of the sounds in the module are punk suited. But some good standard rock tones. I bought mine used and it came with the rim split on the snare. So it is possible to over play on them. Im not the heaviest hitter so I havent had any issues with them holding up since though.
Thanks for this excellent tutorial. I am also doing Efnote fixes over on my channel too.
Appreciate it. How do you like you efnote?
@@Bearvswolf I think it's excellent - particularly the cymbals, but (as per your video) the Efnote version of the 'round robin' isn't very satisfying. So, I tend to pair Efnote 7 module with another module that can do sample import (currently a 2Box) so that I can swap out snares and toms that play and sound more acoustic due to the depth of the sample layering. I'll do a video on my channel on that topic soon!
@@Acoustic2Electronic I will look out for it👍
What recording method do you use? Great Sound.
These drums were recorded via midi. Triggering steven slate drums. I think the preset was Big Beefy Dry. Thanks for commenting🤘
What’s this from???
Its an original piece. Just an intro idea I had this last couple days.
Will have to try. Excellent ideas. Thx, new drummer here, this is a great tip.
Glad it helps🤘
Thats really good man! Keep going
Much appreciated thanks🤘
Nice!
