It is the 10 core cpu. Vs the 8 core. But i think the 8 core would do just as well. Probably would not notice a difference. If you need lots of virtual instruments “maybe” upgrade RAM instead. I have no issues at 16GB though. The m1 pro is crazy powerful.
I think that’s a good call. I havent had a problem yet. But I tend to think the RAM is the place to upgrade. Rather than the 10 core model I got. I use only a few VI’s per song though, usually.

I am in the market for one, would prob go with 32gb ram so if i ever have to use 100 virtual instruments i can.

@@Bearvswolf yea I think edm 16gb is fine, or pop music. It's orchestral projects that crash my current 2013 iMac i7.
would be nice to know sample rate and buffer size when you do these tests. That makes a big difference actually.
