Mariposa Grove Hike in Winter - Yosemite - What to See 2024
มุมมอง 3K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
We hiked Mariposa Grove Trail in Yosemite National park during winter The road to mariposa grove is closed during winter. So we parked at the welcome plaza, put on our gaiters, and headed down the Washburn trail. We didn’t put on micro spikes but packed them just in case. After about 2 miles we finally made it to the start of the Mariposa Grove Trail. We were instantly greeted by the giant Sequ...
Thermoball ZipUp Boot: Overpriced and Underwhelming

This winter I was on the lookout for a good pair of warm hiking boots when I came across the Thermoball Zip Up Boots by The North Face. The Baffled down look quickly caught my attention and I knew I had to try them. They made a bigger impression when the fit was perfect for my wide feet as it's something I struggle with. They also claimed to be waterproof which was an added bonus. On my First w...

Altra Lone Peak Hiker Review Complete - Consider this before you buy them
Thanks for the video. I have hiked it once in the summer it's definitely a beautiful part of the park.
Hello, I'm from Brazil end my dream is to know this wanderfull place 😊😊😊
We hope you get to visit one day!
Do NOT buy these chains! Not because they dont work but putting them on is a nightmare. Youll want a warm garage and an hour or 2. When you need them in a snow storm itll be almost impossible to get them on. Buy something else.
In Bulgaria when you just remove the sticker they say nooo you used them we cant return your money 😂😂😂😂
I like the sunset
we love both sunrise and sunset ☺️
Hi where you are at so beautiful
@@girl_10H this was Morro Rock in Sequoia National Park
Thanks for the honest advice. Good for walking around town but any hikes …. forget about it.
What a Karen, if her mouth went as fast as her mouth half the pain🤣
actually my name is Crystal
Just one pair of socks?!
I used these but the connector between the red and blue cable failed. The cable pulled through the metal ferrule under heavy load.
That sucks man, I can see how that can happen, I’ve actually been wanting to replace them before that happens to me but so far they’re handling the stress well
@@roamingthetrails I just had to crimp it together with some channel locks out on the trail and then pry it apart when I was back to the highway. I returned them to WM but after further consideration I might just buy a new set and weld on a traditional s-hook myself. I was in about 2 feet of snow drift 40 miles from help in 5 degree (F) temps with no cell service and they REALLY saved my bacon. Call it trauma bonding haha but I feel like I should give them another shot with an improved connector.
One day I will need you to my gia mister Berna chulada de tiempo Que te tomaste para relajar la mente 💜

Thanks for this review. We are a family of 8 just getting into backpacking from car camping. We’ve been collecting Nemo Tensor All Season wide pads, but I was looking at this for my three youngest kids who don’t need a super nice pad to save money. Right away I can see it’s much much larger rolled up than the Tensor and does not look anywhere near as thick. Guess I’ll keep saving and make a purchase once for everyone to have Nemos.
Yeah honestly you can’t go wrong with Nemo, I’ve had good experience with all my Nemo gear
Keep your first aid kit outside your pack, visible, and easily accessible. Bear spray is useless unless you can reach it in
Good tips, thanks 🤙🏼
Bear spray not hairspray 😂 You’re welcome mate
I went there once in fall, it was fabulous!
Definitely NOT how it looks currently. No natural snow. ❄️ 😑
we posted this short in 2022, snow has definitely been lagging this year. Each year the weather is a bit different
@@roamingthetrailswhen do you think snow will start falling?
YAAAY SO HAPPY YOU ARE BACK
Happy to be back! Thanks for being here 😊
Helpful video. Visiting early January 2025 thanks!
Thank you 😊 safe travels
Agreed. I have the 34L and it’s awesome. Love that orange color offering as well.
It’s a great color, I’m usually an all black gear guy but this color stands out nicely.
Stunning 😍
Thank you! 😊
❤stunning
Thank you
Where is the fleece from and would it work if I 1) layer with base layer 2) then wear merino wool sweater 3) fleece 4) light puffer 5) down parka for -30° hike through woods?
The fleece is from the North Face, and yes that layering System seems great but honestly once you start hiking you’ll probably get warm and layers will start coming off.. everyone is different though so try it out, it’s always better to have more layers than not enough
@roamingthetrails Thank you for responding soon enough I have that hike in Canada tomorrow :) And the fleece definitely seemed good which caught my eye no wonder it's from North face . Thank you for sharing and posting videos.
Hopefully it’s a good one, safe travels.
@@roamingthetrails Thank you!!!
Bro I hiked up there, went about 20ft from the waterfall in the river, took some photos, then played brawl stars 😅
Always a good time on the trail 🤙
Planning to visit Christmas week but don’t plan to drive on snow .. can you provide more information on how to take the shuttle bus ?
Hopefully your plans worked out, sorry just saw your message.
Can you go over how to extend the chain to make it a bit looser?
Hi mate, planning to do this next week, just wondering what time did you start your hike?
Hello we started just before 8 am. Safe hiking!
I walk for a job, with that and walking my dog I walk on average 80 miles a week and have done for years. I`ve been through every allegedly credible boot out there looking for a decent pair of boots. I`ve found them. Cloudrock 2 are by far the best boots in every way.
I walk I
❤
Important to note you turned around when weather started changing ❤🎉
Terrible demo
Well let me know if you find something better
sorry, I had the low top GTX ones, sent them back, not enough support, was like walking in Converse All-Star sneakers.
You know I tried the low tops and I felt the same way, maybe the extra shoe lace loop adds additional support. what are your go too boots?
Is there a need for bear spray if they’re hibernating
maybe not ? I like to carry it as extra precaution. It also depends on the location you’re at, some locations restrict the use of bear spray year-round
Great question. I'm taking a hike soon and thought bears would be hibernating
Hi great video. Just a quick question because we were planning to do it this Dec? is it possible to just use the car to roam around? and what area do you recommend to take good photos? TIA
It’s doable but I would encourage you to park and walk instead.. there’s not as many parking spaces on the side of the road in winter.. but there’s always lots too see.. 📸bridalveil falls, cooks meadow, swinging bridge, mirror lake, lower Yosemite falls. safe travels 😊
Do you need chain for the wheels to enter the park during winter season?
Yes it’s better to be safe and carry chains with you in case chain restrictions are enforced. you might need them at any time
Any recommended womens winter gloves for yosemite?
I use basic liner gloves by REI but they’re not the warmest. I don’t use thicker gloves because I feel it gets in the way of using the camera. If bulkiness is not an issue for you, consider getting some insulated gloves
❤❤❤
😊
Hey - is it that lonely ? Which date and day of the week was this ? We are new to the country and not very courageous with bears around .. planning to be there on 4 Jan Saturday ..
This was first week of February 2024 on a Saturday. We only say one person during the hike. If you’re worried about wild life and the solitude o would recommend going down to Yosemite Valley or Sequoia National Park instead.
Anyone have any experience with these on the snow on a daily basis ? Or is it not worth it for snow?
We’re going tomorrow from Fresno. Is 140 the safer/easier route when it just snowed? Thanks
Yes, I encourage. You to Take Highway 140. Especially if you’re not familiar with the road on 41. Or driving in the snow.
@ Thank you. I’m familiar with the road on 41, gone to Yosemite 6x but not much on snowy conditions. Been there in one icy February. Will be driving a Tacoma OR 23. Do you think there’ll be snow on 140 or maybe not as bad? Thank you. Wish me luck lol 🤞
I Haven’t driven on 140 though.
Personally 140 has less curves than 41 and I think looks safer, however I always take 41 and just play it safe. Just make sure you have chains sometimes rangers asks to see them but I’ve only ever had to put them on my 21 OR.. take it slow and you’ll be fine, enjoy it
Thank you. You have a good concise video.
What size are your tires? . I can’t find one for 265 70 16. Walmart only has 265 70 15
They’re 265 70 16, they should have one that fits, hope you find it
0:09 thanks for making this video! where is this spot located ?
Thanks for watching! That spot was Cathedral Beach. It’s a hit or miss during winter because the road/parking lot closes often
Made in Vietnam so quality control definitely questionable.
I got mine shipped today, and out of the box, they feel very cheap, I agree with you
Great review, thanks!
Awesome video thank you
Very welcome
So I’m at the store about to buy these (literally sitting down watching your video, right now, with these boots on my feet) because I was wanting these particular boots for awhile now and I finally went out for them but now I’m deciding not to buy. I’m making my decision based off of your very informative video of these particular boots! I was originally going for these because they boast “waterproof” and that’s exactly what I need. When I hear “waterproof” I’m expecting the whole boot to be exactly that…waterproof!!!! After watching your video and hearing your very in-depth review… you just saved me from the eventual disappointment of having wet, cold feet!!! Now I’m not saying that this is a bad boot… just not what I was looking for!! Thanks for your awesome review brother!!! Keep hiking!!!
Im glad you found it helpful, hopefully you find what you’re looking for👍🏼
I have constantly wet feet in this shoes even in cold climate. Their membrane is just a bloody plastic bag if you as k me. I don’t sweat as much in any other shoe than this one. And the sole came loose after 30km. Total crap shoe.
Тебе в итоге они понравились? На зиму подойдут?
I still use them for very hike. They are not warm enough for me for snowy hikes when the weather is below 35 degrees F/1.6 degrees C
Great video, thanks for sharing! Do you think that two days is enough time to do all those 10 things? *We are planning to stay in Mariposa, so we need to go in and out of the park 2 times.
I don’t think two days is enough to do most of the things on this video but rather better to choose 3-5 things and make the most of it. No matter what you choose to do you’ll have a good time.
I am planning a trip in November, thanks for all the tips!!
Safe travels 😊
