    • @lectronin
      @lectronin 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you. The P-6 pulled a sort of double duty. Yes, it played a minimalist beat using three samples, leaving room for more motion on the Synth. The Synth’s output was also fed through the P-6 and its Cassette MFX effect. The P-6 is a handy and useful unit, and the Synth allows for a lot of freedom in harmonic direction with three synths in an improvisation on a single unit.

    You are pretty much a genius. I’m retuning the Move I just bought until they *legitimately* support time signatures other than 4/4. I can’t believe this oversight.

    • @lectronin
      @lectronin 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I hear your frustration. I’m hoping that at some point they may find a work around for this (some of it is built into the labeling of the hardware interface itself, with the first of every 4 step buttons signified as a beat point, suggesting 4/4 subdivided into 16ths). I’m also hoping that it may be possible to define step lengths per pad in a sampler track, allowing polyrhythmic sequencing of several samples. Ultimately, when I want to work in mixed meter, my go-to DAW is Logic. Even the computer version of Live, while it can vary time signature by scene, is not a great solution for music where meter is more fluid.

    I am on the fence about buying one because of various mentions in forums and videos of bad trigger and velocity sensitivity of the pads. Most people say that the problem is mitigated by setting the pads to fixed velocity, but that seems contrary to the concept of this instrument. What's your experience with the pads?

    • @lectronin
      @lectronin 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      So far, I’ve found the pads to not be as consistent as I’d like. I tried the various velocity sensitivity settings, and the results are always mixed. A large part of the appeal of the unit is in playing three synths at once. However, it takes an immense amount of focus to not end up with occasional velocity jumps, double triggers, or notes that end sooner than intended. Part of it feels like a hardware issue. Part of it may be software response. I’d recommend trying it in a store first before deciding.

    Sound switch you have static scenes that you can make as wild or tamed as you want. I think you are just wanting an AI generated light show and SS is not that in nature.. If you want a good light show you have to put in the work on any DMX program. Maestro is interesting but not very intuitive for Weddings where you have static scene needs. Wolfmix is a fairer comparison. You also forgot there is a midi machine dedicated for SS that makes it much easier to control a live show.

    • @lectronin
      @lectronin 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for watching and commenting. You’re correct about SoundSwitch. What I find most disincentivizing when trying to use it, is its interface. It’s not as intuitive to me as some other solution. But, I love its batch processing! You’re largely correct about the AI generated light show. It appeals to me as an improviser. Maestro DMX does offer the ability to program static scenes and even recall them either from its web interface or a MIDI controller. I don’t have the Control One, but I have a bit of a mock-up of it on my Engine DJ controller, which is pretty cool, but still not as intuitive to me for the way I like to work. I know DJ Daryl Bennett can put together great shows, but it seems rather painstaking. Do you have experience with SoundSwitch? If so, how do you get it to deliver a performance that you consider good?

    This is by far one of the best and most in depth reviews/thoughts on these various options. I'm a mobile DJ as well as a live performer and this was pretty helpful. I'm still not sure which one to get, but leaning toward the wolfmix or the maestro. My main thing I'm trying to do is have the lighting be interesting and classy for weddings and be able to control the uplights separately from the lixada moving heads, chauvet wash FX2, ADJ MegaFlash, ADJ Star Bars, Chauvet ColorBand, and the LaLuceNatz Kinta/Derby light. Mostly so I can have the uplights light the room in a single static color or two or three static colors and then have them all switch for special moments like the first dance, cake cutting etc. What do you think? I think the wolf mix is probably the best solution for this use case. I'm just wondering how much programming it will take for the dance party light scenes and how well it reacts to the audio in from the audio in jack.

    • @lectronin
      @lectronin หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for watching and commenting. In my experience, the Wolfmix gives you the most control, especially if you’re looking for elegance and finesse. You can put the uplights on a “live edit” to let them remain static as you use preset changes to control and animate the other lights. You have 5 pages of presets that you could fill with various color schemes and animated FX. It’s fairly easy to control live if you have a free hand while DJing. If your DJ software/controller supports Ableton Link, and you’re using a laptop, you could sync the Wolfmix using a Link from the WTOOLS app on a laptop. The next best option would be MIDI Clock, then the audio in jack, and finally the built-in mic. The audio routes usually depend upon a clear kick, and I haven’t used them much. The Maestro DMX does a pretty good job of listening, since that’s how it works. It has four groups (primary through quaternary) and one group could be assigned to the uplights and dedicated to a static look (I use that for my upward facing lights on my portable table). They recently released an update that allows for cake positions, etc, and it can be controlled via MIDI or OSC. From your description, you may have more than one universe (512 channels) worth of lights. If so, the Wolfmix comes with 2 universes unlocked out of the box. The Maestro DMX only supports one. However, I believe their team has indicated they may support more universes through the ART-Net out. Although, I wouldn’t recommend purchasing a product based on future features. I hope this helps.

      Yes. You can use something like the Chinly transmitters and receivers to go wireless with the DMX signal (meaning no DMX cables from the console). To go completely wireless (not plugged into a wall or other stationary electrical source) you can use a battery bank to power the Wolfmix, and the battery operated Chauvet D-FI transmitter combined with the Chauvet D-Fi Hu (if you’re using fixtures that aren’t D-Fi compatible. It was daisy chained through to a portable recorder (VS Mini into SH4d into Circuit Tracks into Circuit Rhythm into Tascam X8). Each device’s internal sounds were mixed internally, and then each device’s main mix was gain matched (or “mixed”) to the level from the previous device’s feed.

      Just trying to keep it real. 😁 Knowledge in the negative space works for me. Thank you for your encouragement.

    Thank you for watching and commenting. As far as transferring third party patches, that’s unfortunately the unit’s Achilles heel. You can save the entire memory of the unit, and you can restore the entire memory of the unit. You cannot externally save and restore individual synth patches, drum kits, or patterns. I truly wish Roland could fix this with an update, but so far, it doesn’t seem they have.

      An unfortunate side effect of how TH-cam can sometimes render HDR in SDR.

    Great video. I’m looking to pair up a MIDI foot controller with the SH-4D to play notes with my foot while I play bass. My SH-4D is still in the mail, waiting to be delivered. I’m trying to learn as much as possible before I receive the synth. Looks like a powerhouse! I have one question, can we transfer 3rd party patches to the SH-4D from a computer via USB? I can’t find any documentation related to that. Also that bass drone sounded awesome

    Is there any noticeable audio latency when going out from the CT to external synth and then back into the CT?

      Not that I’ve noticed.

    Love the approach and style of this video. Super informative and no nonsense. Thanks for taking the time to show your process and how you are working around the move's limitations. It's cool to see everyone still figuring out this little box and pushing it to its limits (Ableton pun intended). Keep making great content is the only suggestion I have - no improvements needed. I watched to the end and started looking at some of your other vids. Sub'd.
